Starcraft 2: 4 New Gameplay Videos
irserious.com — The first videos of actual gameplay are starting to surface. Game Trailers has put up several different gameplay videos, and Game Videos put up an on-stage demo narrated by Blizzard at the official unveiling. Damn those Koreans are lucky.

- zesmidge, on 10/11/2007, -2/+43Those terran reapers are badass.
- Synchronicity, on 10/11/2007, -14/+8Although the duel channel echo wasn't intentional, the echo in the first few gameplay videos -- on this page: http://tvpot.daum.net/theme/ThemeView.do?themeid=122&lu=m_mono_1 -- gave the game a spacial depth that made the game seem technologically godlike and amazingly vast, especially when I wore headphones. They should consider adding that exact duel echo sound to the game.
The non-echo versions (the normalized versions), sounded flat, pretty lame, with no innovative difference from any other RTS game. - chingy1788, on 10/11/2007, -5/+28I wish SC2 still had a firebat... (I haven't seen it so far)
- outiv, on 10/11/2007, -14/+6The immortals die very easily from weak weapons...
how ironic is that. - rockforever, on 10/11/2007, -3/+13The Reapers remind me of Mavericks from Total Annihilation.
- Kurisuku, on 10/11/2007, -62/+4Mer, doesn't look any better than the original Starcraft, which doesn't say much considering it was an overrated game with a brutally insane learning curve. Never has there been such a game where people would enjoy losing repetitively, apparently.
- stephant, on 10/11/2007, -1/+33I don't even like rts games and all of it was pretty badass if you ask me. Pretty stunning.
- chingy1788, on 10/11/2007, -5/+46going off topic a bit but a good point to bring up
I'm suprised they kept it under wraps since 2003 when they started the project
if it was any other company something would of came out - counterplex, on 10/11/2007, -34/+6@chingy1788
Dugg down for "would of" instead of "would have" or "would've"
/grammar nazi - Ninjab3ar, on 10/11/2007, -25/+4The reapers rock! especially the fact that they can jump. I jave NEVER seen any unit in any fps game that can jump on different lever terrain.
- gforce42, on 10/11/2007, -0/+41@Chingy
They've surpassed Apple. - Supurcell, on 10/11/2007, -2/+13Ninjab3ar said "The reapers rock! especially the fact that they can jump. I jave NEVER seen any unit in any fps game that can jump on different lever terrain."
I'm pretty sure you meant to say "RTS game" instead of "FPS game", and Warhammer 40k Dawn of War had Assault Marines which had jump jets that did exactly what the Reapers did in that video. - JaYBrooks, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8Can't wait... Its been rumored all over.. but nobody knew if it was going to be another Diablo or another Starcraft... I am Glad it is starcraft. Lets hope that they don't decide half way through that they need to redo it like Diablo 2.
RE: to the Apple comment. I think Apple leaks stuff on purpose. Should it be a surprise? - zachlutz, on 10/11/2007, -3/+45Holy *****. I didn't even know it was possible to simultaneously cream and ***** my pants.
- hmunkey, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7SC1 was amazing.
Judging by this, SC2 will be even better.
Go Blizzard!
I just want to see what a fleet of carriers swarming looks like in SC2 now lol.
:-) - TheRingmaster, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Zone Troopers in C&C3 can jump levels as well, ninjab3ar
- EzarKun, on 10/11/2007, -7/+2I didnt even like RTS, until I found.. Company of Heroes. Then Command and Conquer 3.
They were amazing - maxa, on 10/11/2007, -8/+3These movies look awesome, but this seems to be almost the same gameplay. I was hoping for something more automated. I don't care for the micromanagement clickfest that SC requires. Instead of controlling individual units, we should be controlling groups and formations. Also the base management, gas and minerals, should be more automated. Maybe before gameplay you would program 'orders' scripts for how to build your base and your army. Then when things get hairy you step in and micromanage units.
Also, as far as Terrans, they seem to be almost the same as SC. Same units, same buildings, etc. Personally I don't want to play the same tech tree and units as before. Since it won't come out for two more years, I hope they spend a lot of time going over the units, dropping some, adding others, and balancing them like they did WCIII. - JerMe, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10http://media.pc.ign.com/media/850/850126/vids_1.html
These are way better to watch! Roughly 20 minutes of gameplay from start to end (in 4 parts), with better resolution! - mwosh, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6"Those Koreans are lucky"
I'd say they probably put in their time to deserve this... - thwackitechnica, on 10/11/2007, -6/+4For those of you who can't wait for Starcraft II, I recommend Dawn of War; it's based on Warhammer, which is where blizzard got the ideas for many of the units in Starcraft.
It has 6 races now, and has some fun physics of it's own; basically, guys get diced and thrown around a bit. Good Times. - Kauzman01, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Slammin'

- olddirtycr, on 10/11/2007, -3/+30Lucky Koreans, also at 3:40 notice the dancing night elf?
- stephant, on 10/11/2007, -4/+8Very astute observation. Definitely night elf female wave and dance. There was another emote in there I didn't recognize. Looked like a blush sort of thing.
- vampireblood, on 10/11/2007, -3/+111Starcraft 2, ***** yes!
- haolekook, on 10/11/2007, -48/+4America ... ***** yeah! We're gonna save the mother ***** day yeah!
Sorry, your comment just reminded me of that. - Tikkimann, on 10/11/2007, -2/+26"Hell, it's about time..." --Terran Marine
- haolekook, on 10/11/2007, -48/+4America ... ***** yeah! We're gonna save the mother ***** day yeah!
- Camphlobactor, on 10/11/2007, -7/+9Thanks, l was looking for decent videos that didn't require quicktime.
- michelletan, on 10/11/2007, -47/+2The immortals shouldn't be called immortals if they can be brought down with weak weapons
Talk about it at http://www.starcraft2forum.org- rockforever, on 10/11/2007, -2/+21They're called that because heavy fire is useless against them. Besides its just a name.
- dougbarrett, on 10/11/2007, -17/+9I think even if Blizzard was to call them Little Kitten Protoss, people would still use them because they are bad ass.
Talk about it more at http://www.anamedoesntdeterioratethegameplayofstarcraft2-forum.org - kidd3ckz, on 10/11/2007, -23/+5@doug
ur link doesn't work- i tried typing it in myself but i can't get it to load :(
please can u fix it? i really really really wanna talk about it more - ParaSwarm, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6They're called immortals because they're brought back from the dead (same as dragoons), not because they're invincible. Every unit in Starcraft can die. So by your philosophy, no unit in the game should be called "immortal". Cool.
- PATSCRU, on 10/11/2007, -2/+48um yeah, looks about done. can we have it now?
- psg188, on 10/11/2007, -2/+62if by "now" you mean Q4 2009 then yes, yes you may have it now.
- ohnnyj, on 10/11/2007, -12/+2If it doesn't come out until Q4 09 it will look old school by then (unless of course they overhaul the graphics engine again before release).
Don't get me wrong, I think the game looks great...by todays standards. Not end of 2009 standards. - Tikkimann, on 10/11/2007, -5/+20I just hope they take the World of Warcraft Route and make it playable on computers not made by God.
- Salgat, on 10/11/2007, -8/+1I'll sacrifice a year or two of playing it for it to have amazing graphics.
- bmcnally, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9Honestly, I would still play it even if it didn't have top of the line graphics. Starcraft is still a game that I pull out of my desk drawer from time to time to play with friends, or even to redo the campaigns. As long as the second one keeps that focus on gameplay, I have no problem with graphics that are slightly below the other games coming out at the same time. In fact, I'll probably be more likely to buy it since the system requirements won't be as high.
- trubbleshute, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3ohnnyj
pop onto battlenet and check out how many people are playing the original starcraft, there are tons of better graphics out there but people go back to the game play. Three races, very well balanced. In my opinion, the Scrin in C&C3 were a bit over powered, and NOD was a bit under powered. - ohnnyj, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I stand corrected. Maybe its because I never got into StarCraft.
- tektalk, on 10/11/2007, -102/+5Holy F^ ! I'm thinking a new trend starting!
digg + Starcraft 2 = Front Page
digg me down, but this trend will happen sooner or later- SteveRogers, on 10/11/2007, -0/+81You're ***** clever, man. You cracked the ***** code! Let me try to analyze your logic. Let's see if a modest mind like my own can keep up the the reasoning genius that is tektalk.
Front page = most dugg stories.
Popularity = diggs.
StarCraft = popular = diggs = front page.
Batman, watch your back; tektalk is after the title "World's Greatest Detective." - bysin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+62Hold on a second... Popular stories get on the front page? Whoa.
- adml_shake, on 10/11/2007, -21/+6"Hold on a second... Popular stories get on the front page? Whoa."
Thats not true. Next thing you'll be telling me is that theres "girls" on the internet.
- SteveRogers, on 10/11/2007, -0/+81You're ***** clever, man. You cracked the ***** code! Let me try to analyze your logic. Let's see if a modest mind like my own can keep up the the reasoning genius that is tektalk.
- mortey, on 10/11/2007, -1/+16http://media.pc.ign.com/media/850/850126/vids_1.html
They have 4 gameplay videos there plus the cinematic trailer and the artwork. Enjoy- haolekook, on 10/11/2007, -5/+0You must not have gone to the site, because it has all the artwork and screenshots there too, just need to look at the right column on "Recent Posts".
- InsaneMachine, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3Site is a little slow already, duggmirror seems to have gotten it all. http://duggmirror.com/pc_games/Starcraft_2_4_New_Gameplay_Videos/
- f4nt0m4s, on 10/11/2007, -2/+25beauuutiful
the new units look sweet, and the zerg swarm really swarms
starcraft 2 ftw - Lrn2Fish, on 10/11/2007, -24/+8....
Pixar aint got ***** on Blizzard!- jpt62089, on 10/11/2007, -3/+12How can you make that comparison? Pixar makes movies, Blizzard makes games. End of story.
- junk, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10Besides making good games, Blizzard is also known for the quality of their CGI cutscenes. I think maybe that was why the person above made the comparison. If you haven't seen them, do a search for the Warcraft III cutscenes. In my opinion they are the best CGI cutscenes ever produced for a videogame.
- jk_baller23, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6You can also see these videos on YouTube, w/the narration. 2 parts, each about 6m 30s long. Quality and audio may not be so great but it seems that the videos have been cut short in the digg story.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=aJDFw4TGWmo - cconger, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3Haha they had the Dancing Night Elf Strip club in the Immortal VS The Siege Tank Gameplay clip. About half way through. Single female gamers, continue banging your head against the Blizzard wall.
- dougbarrett, on 10/11/2007, -2/+19It's just....so beautiful.
- Mongoose, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4I hate how they took out all the dialogue/commentary. I can understand why they took out the unit speeches, cuz they were in korean, but in IGN's versions there are long moments of silence while the announcer guy is explaining what's going on.
Link to videos w/ commentary: (be warned, they take forever to load)
http://tvpot.daum.net/theme/ThemeView.do?themeid=122&lu=m_mono_1 - oligofree, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1Serious *****!!!
- antiorblkflag9, on 10/11/2007, -5/+3I wonder if the zealots speed increase is an ability or just a fighting graphic...
- IsangMahal, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3its an ability... its a running attack for those situations that you would wanna swarm one target or whatever purpose it suits you
- XandraX, on 10/11/2007, -25/+3Looks dated already
- gothsquirrel, on 10/11/2007, -18/+4I love starcraft but i'm hoping for more than just a graphical upgrade. So far thats all i'm seeing and i'm not to impressed. Not to say it dosen't look good at first look i thought they were playing the original starcraft. They better have something innovative up their sleeves or i might sit this one out and play the original some more.
- Gir53457, on 10/11/2007, -2/+11The Z axis. The new units with awesome abilities. New deployment strategies. New defensive strategies. New offensive strategies. Blizzard has reinvented their wheel and they're it with pimpin' jet engines.
- gothsquirrel, on 10/11/2007, -9/+1What? The z - axis there is no more z axis here than in the previous starcraft games. Just becuase some units can jump doesn't add a new dimension to the game. Its been done before and i'd expect at least that in a new rts.
- jamakasi, on 10/11/2007, -20/+0wow the graphics is amazing, I don't even don't want to know how fast PC this game requires :o
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
http://www.racewarz.net/r.php?id=7538 - mick6885, on 10/11/2007, -2/+14w0w, i didnt know the protoss came from korea :D
- Gir53457, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8And the Zerg are the Chinese. Perverting western developments for their own, plus the human wave thingy during WWII.
- anonym41414, on 10/11/2007, -6/+0China wasn't involved in World War II, except as fodder for the Japanese. Remember, World War II was before the Chinese revolution. Human wave tactics were used in Korea to great success, and also in the Iran-Iraq war to a certain extent.
- Gir53457, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Chinese and Australian forces held the Japanese main army at bay while the US chipped away at vital resources. Much like the European/African/East Asian front where the British and Russians armies did most of the fighting. Our only major fronts were France and Midway, where as we mostly acted as vital resource suppliers.
- vermin, on 10/11/2007, -4/+13Gametrailers delivers: http://www.gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?id=4868
- vermin, on 10/11/2007, -8/+5Not sure why I'm getting dugg down for linking to the source of the videos in the story.
- treeburner, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4I have been waiting for so long for a new starcraft game.
- NikoKun, on 10/11/2007, -3/+11As long as it remains as good as the original... with the same strong RTS gameplay, I'll be happy.
dam it does look great... and I'm loving the new elements I'm seeing... heh
EDIT: OMFG The Zerg are going to be AMAZING!!!- NikoKun, on 10/11/2007, -2/+14damn, protoss aren't looking bad either... hehe giant laser things = win! XD
- SkippySkip, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11Yeah. I hope they make the loud horn noises like they did in "War of the Worlds."
- Fhwqhgads, on 10/11/2007, -8/+1"Yeah. I hope they make the loud horn noises like they did in "War of the Worlds."
Definitely a ripoff!
- tektalk, on 10/11/2007, -1/+31If this game was launched on a rainy day and I didn't bring an Umbrella, I would gladly stand in the downpour to obtain this game.
- xsanctom, on 10/11/2007, -5/+2Good stuff, news like this makes me optimistic for the future, I think running out of fossil fuels won't have a negative impact on the world and the people in it at all, maybe the oil companies and that's about it.
- DMDekoth, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9I watched the 4 part IGN gameplay videos. Holy cow. I can't wait to see some of the new stuff for Zerg. Protoss get a BLACK HOLE?! That was such a sweet effect.
- sipsyrup, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11my mouth dropped when i saw that mother ship...
then i freaking ***** myself when it did the black hole
- sipsyrup, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11my mouth dropped when i saw that mother ship...
- psYcon, on 10/11/2007, -3/+18that Protoss Mothership in the 3rd video is total haxxor!
- lowerlogic, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12Actually, it looks like it was functioning as intended.
- jakk, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14..which is arguably scarier
- rspeed, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I WANT ONE
Maybe two. - DarknessGP, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1It's been confirmed that you will only be able to get 1...
- gamerzx, on 10/11/2007, -6/+1Thanks Blizzard!
Now if you could only just announce Diablo 3, and you'll be my new best friend!- iamalba, on 10/11/2007, -4/+0Same here, i can't freaking wait for Diablo 3 to come out, I've to wait for Mythos for now (which still looks uber awesome :D)
You can do it Blizzard, just... get the rumors started already!
- iamalba, on 10/11/2007, -4/+0Same here, i can't freaking wait for Diablo 3 to come out, I've to wait for Mythos for now (which still looks uber awesome :D)
- battleroyalex, on 10/11/2007, -6/+3First game worth the cash in a long time, even if it is just a clone with better graphics :)
- everfalling, on 10/11/2007, -6/+1i hope those mother ship abilities last longer than what he showed, cause it didn't seem like he took out a whole lot with the planet cracker or the time bomb. black hole is win though, wonder what dictates how long it stays open. can't wait to see what mega weapons the zerg and terrans get.
- LordLucless, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5It was a demon - I don't think it really showed the abilities to their fullest. For example, what if the mothership had a bunch of supporting units with it when it time-bombed; I imagine they'd be protected by the stasis field too. You could do some serious damage with that sort of setup. And the planetcracker might be overkill for highly mobile, low-cost marines, but run the same over a bunch of siege tanks, ultralisks, or even some critical buildings, and you could really do some damage.
- LordLucless, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2s/demon/demo
- ShadowMarth, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Also, I doubt all three factions would get such a super weapon. After all, the balance of starcraft is about asymmetry. Just like only terrans had nukes, hopefully only the protoss will have such a capitol ship.
- vaxguru, on 10/11/2007, -3/+5omg. this HAS been worth the wait. O_O
- Erroneus, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1I wiiiillll complyyyyyyyyy
Nice! - eclosis, on 10/11/2007, -5/+29Blizzard... can you please slow down on the announcements..... My testicles can't produce semen this fast...
- LordLucless, on 10/11/2007, -5/+9It looks like Blizzard are trying to prevent a couple of things that really annoyed me about the first.
No more large homogenous forces - goodbye to the zerg rush! AoE and multiple target attacks, blinking stalkers, and the new ways units have of interacting with the terrain mean that simply building up a large force of similar units and rushing probably won't be a winning strategy.
And other changes should limit unit redundancy in the end game. Units that can only be really damaged by small arms fire means marines, hydrolisks and such will be useful throughout the game, and the zealots charge will keep them in play longer.
To me it seems that to beat a skilled player, you're going to have to have a very mixed force, with different specialist units all being needed at various times all throughout the game - which is what a good RTS should be IMO.- kheldorin, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12Rushing with low level units should ALWAYS be a valid strategy. It's there to counter those who tech up too fast or to catch less skilled players unaware as signs of a zerg or zealot rush are very obvious to a skilled player. The stuff you mentioned are already in Stacraft's gameplay strategy. It is what made it so great for competitive players. Those concepts are what most RTS today based their gameplay upon.
- LordLucless, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4"Rushing with low level units should ALWAYS be a valid strategy."
Low level units, fine. But it shouldn't just be a bunch of the same units that runs over everything else. That's just...boring. And doesn't requires much strategy, or tactical thinking. It didn't help in the original Starcraft that flyers were always a fair way down the tech tree. Yes, if someone's concentrating too much on their tech trees and not as much on building their troops, they should be able to be taken out by low-level units. But it should be by a skillfully-used mixture of low-level ranged, melee, and flyers, not just a zergling rush. - Coolspot420, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2http://www.starcraft2.com/screenshot.xml?2
- antongranik, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10Oh god!!!!!! Make this year 2009!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pleaaaaaaaaaaaaseeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!
- Comatose51, on 10/11/2007, -2/+12Do not freeze yourself in ice, unless you have a time traveling prank call phone.
- Nutt3rz, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1@Comatose51, I see what you did there...
- ricefarmer, on 10/11/2007, -8/+1you guys realize americans dont play this game right... they just mass one unit and play with 10000000000000x resources where u dont need to expand... and have no strategy.. which is what happen with the original starcraft.. thats why no american ever made it to the game competitions. koreans figured out millions of true strategys and combo units that i have never seen on american bnet... the koreans actaully make use of all the units and micro really good..
u guys want proof? go on bnet right now and play any starcraft match.. its all unlimited resources and mass unit wars.. its no strategy and sucks the way americans play it.. i guess it started when biggamehunters map came about - H0ns, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1There are two easter eggs hidden in the cinematic trailer
http://digg.com/videos/gaming/StarCraft_2_Cinematic_Trailer_Easter_Egg_2_PICS- woona, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1There's one more Easter egg in the gameplay video (with night elf female dancing in the background) - http://starcraft2log.blogspot.com/2007/05/official-gameplay-video.html
- woona, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1omg... here's the actual link showing the egg: http://starcraft2log.blogspot.com/2007/05/night-elf-easter-egg.html :|
- RobertPatrick, on 10/11/2007, -5/+2As much as I'm amazed by those videos, I can't help being extremely puzzled at WHAT KIND of minimum config is needed to display such a beautiful game..... I want to play that game but certainly won't upgrade my computer just to be able to play it.
- rotten777, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6I'm sure Blizzard is going to cry if you don't upgrade your computer to play their game. The millions of people that did that exact thing for their previous games will probably do it again for SC2.
It is part of being a PC gamer. Get over it.
- rotten777, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6I'm sure Blizzard is going to cry if you don't upgrade your computer to play their game. The millions of people that did that exact thing for their previous games will probably do it again for SC2.
- NailToTheX, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2
funny thing about the whole console war and prices of systems... I wouldnt hesitate to spend a couple of grand to get a system to play this game when it comes out. - ColonelJessup, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11STARGASM!
- lakersforce, on 10/11/2007, -10/+8Sign the linux petetion: http://www.petitiononline.com/ibpfl/petition.html
and digg it: http://digg.com/pc_games/Help_get_native_Linux_support_for_Starcraft_2- twigboy, on 10/11/2007, -9/+6Umm, no.
- triskele, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6By 2009 it'll be time for a new comp anyway... perfect timing Blizz. Now let's just see if I can afford a Macbook Pro worthy of SC2 by then.
- bridow, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1F'ing awesome BUUUT please revamp battle.net (which they said they are)!
- Themauvestorm3, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4No complaints. I just need a new pair of boxers.
- CptBuck, on 10/11/2007, -5/+6Anyone else think it looks very cartoonish? To me thats the biggest flaw of every blizzard game since Warcraft III. Especially WOW. It would be nice if, for this game, they added a little bit more grit before release. Especially to the zealots, they look kind of wimpy. http://www.starcraft2.com/art.xml?12 Also, didn't the protoss use to have bumps/scales all over their heads?
