1. Start with a human face
2. Paint it a wacky color (optional)

I think this game will appeal to people who like sci-fi, and star trek. I'm personally sick of the same old MMO formula...
set the game in an age of mythology, using ancient weapons... check.
Make the same 5 or so classes of tank, healer, melee DPS, ranged DPS with pet, caster.... check
rake in the sub fees !
I loved star wars galaxies when it first came out (even though it was buggy as all hell), because there were no cookie cutter classes. you chose what paths you wanted to take, and each character could be somewhat different. well, then SOE destroyed that game.
I have high hopes for this game, the trailers look pretty promising. I'm sure this will be one i'll at least check out for a month. - tk0680, on 05/13/2009, -0/+6Tentatively excited about this. The Star Trek universe is insanely huge, so it's a good platform for them to launch an MMO from. Probably not a WoW-killer, but it might at least poke it in the ribs a little.

Complaining about how the Galaxy and Nebula class star ships look fugly and ridiculous is fair game, though. What were they thinking... a flying saucer but with an engine slapped on its ass, in a very awkward looking and clumsy manner, no less. The skill training mechanic is ridiculous. let's go ahead and make this game so that the people who have played from day 1 will have an insurmountable advantage in skills, and ***** you, new guy. If you didn't belong to one of the 100+ player megacorps, EVE was essentially a mining simulator.... whee!!

Dont get me wrong, I hope that this turns into a really good game because WoW could use some good competition for a change. The only game, however, that will kill WoW is WoW2.

Also you need to upgrade your video card if you don't think that can be rendered on the fly. We can probably do better rendering in real time than jurassic park now. - Ericdigital, on 05/13/2009, -0/+1It could be real time, Obviously a mocked up UI for promotional purposes(Yeah they didn't bother to show the sliders b/c it adds clutter). Though I admit it's high end for an MMO I have faith, the cryptic guys are pretty bad ass. It's pretty standard stuff. Of course the ingame character will have LODS, but having a single char on screen like this vid with some nice normal,spec and a in engine IBL doesn't seem like a stretch to me at all. If shader support is anything like Kismat in Unreal being able to slide fluently through different skin types(bumps,horns,whatever) the final product will be absolutely just as smooth.
