- inactive, on 09/13/2008, -15/+545LMAO, at the end of the article they basically state right up front that their DRM is designed to hassle legitimate, paying customers and not pirates. Christ, as if things aren't bad enough, when you basically come out and say "Yeah, we're just trying to ***** over paying customers," that's just ***** up.
- JohnnyQwest, on 09/13/2008, -7/+466I think they're just pirating out of spite as this point because of all the DRM bull.
- inactive, on 09/13/2008, -6/+355/off to DL spore
- diggan8, on 09/13/2008, -8/+265Buried. I didn't have a problem pirating it. The crack worked just fine.
- FLUX, on 09/13/2008, -0/+214The media companies have yet to learn that customer service is first , so don't treat the paying customer like a criminal or he may just become one for spite
- conversekid, on 09/13/2008, -14/+213I pirated this game because 1 - I'm a broke-ass teen and 2 - out of spite.
- Psygnosis, on 09/13/2008, -3/+176Dugg for "sad panda" in a Forbes article
- heartsblood, on 09/13/2008, -4/+155That's exactly what I did. I can't even play the game because I run linux but I downloaded it just so I could give EA the finger.
- inactive, on 09/13/2008, -9/+160YOU ARE A PIRATE.

22,000 leechers. Kiss my dick EA. - gfxluvr, on 09/13/2008, -3/+117Doesn't matter anyway, not only did EA ***** Spore in the ass with the DRM, but it ***** Spore in the ass by forcing Maxis to dumb it down, and making it more cute for the 'casual' gamer.
This is what Spore SHOULD have been: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8dvMDFOFnA&fmt=18 - mattwalton56, on 09/13/2008, -8/+113Yo Ho Diddily Dee.
- inactive, on 09/13/2008, -2/+107Spore is one of the first games that deserves to be pirated by even those who can afford it, and would have bought it legitimately, like me. EA just created a whole new breed of pirates. Nice going!
- diggan8, on 09/13/2008, -5/+99I plan to give it back.
- Skooma714, on 09/13/2008, -1/+91EA Games: Pirate everything
- bluetytanium, on 09/13/2008, -1/+89The second EA releases a patch for Spore to take away DRM, I will gladly pay money for the game. For now, though, I'll sacrifice online play for rootkits.
- damack, on 09/13/2008, -5/+87You'd be better off just downloading the game and sending Will Wright a cheque.
The man did an incredible job on a very unique and fun game and then he let EA ruin it with draconian DRM. I've always given EA a chance despite their critics on numerous issues but when it comes to this they can't be defended.
Why can't these morons learn the lessons from the dying music industry. - Sammi84, on 09/13/2008, -1/+76In practise, DRM does exactly the opposite of what it's supposed to do in theory.
- BackEnThaWomb, on 09/13/2008, -0/+60Being a pirate is alright to be!
- Jasonstech, on 09/13/2008, -4/+64FTA - "DRM makes me a sad panda"
Having Forbes use that particular quote I thought was priceless. - usbserial, on 09/13/2008, -1/+60They said it in the article... DRM will never stop pirating. So why are they making it more inconvenient for the paying customers? People hate being inconvenienced and restricted. The more harsh DRM you use, the more people will find it more convenient to pirate.
- exscape, on 09/13/2008, -1/+59"Sughayer also points out that less than 25% of EA users attempt to install the company's games on more than one computer, and less than 1% attempt to install it on more than three."
What the... The issue here isn't installing it on 10 computers, it's that people "sometimes" reinstall the game at a later point in life. More than three times total. Don't tell me they're missing the criticism THIS badly. - jaythewise, on 09/13/2008, -9/+66Go Stardock!!
They already have two recent games that are MUCH much better than spore. Hopefully, people will continue to buy GOOD games and not sims crap with DRM. - Clbull, on 09/13/2008, -0/+53EA Sports: Its in the game... you bought last year.
- AirRaven, on 09/13/2008, -9/+58Not touching.
I refuse to pirate a game I've been looking forwards to for years, but there's no *way* I'm paying money for the thing whilst it still has this absurd Installation-limitation scheme.
If people refused to buy it full stop, rather than torrenting it with sanctimonious grins on their faces, *then* EA would get the message. As things stand? Not a chance. - thrillhouse900, on 09/13/2008, -2/+51Put Spore on Steam, I'll but it today.
"Heck, I'd have seconds" - heartsblood, on 09/13/2008, -0/+47They'd never do that. Steam lets you play your games on any computer anywhere.
- derceto, on 09/13/2008, -4/+51So you didn't even try it for yourself?
- scarwars, on 09/13/2008, -4/+50didn't know Spore could be played on Win95
- Kahnza, on 09/13/2008, -6/+47More people are pirating rather than buying because the game seriously sucks. It should have been a LOT better for all the hype thats been shoved down our throats for the last few years. And the more companies try to DRM stuff, the worse piracy will get.
DRM doesn't work you corporate hose hounds! - V1ncent, on 09/13/2008, -0/+39It's long been proven that copy protection does not deter anyone and is useless. It only stops legitimate buyers, until they download the patch of course. I do not condone or copy software myself, but the publishers are just as clueless as the RIAA thinking they can stop music downloads. So why bother with copy protection since it's proven to not work one bit?
- Asianwaste, on 09/13/2008, -0/+38EA's current DRM model is designed to prevent zero day piracy and second hand sales. Long term emphasis on preventing second hand sales. It's ***** silly to say we want to control what you do with your product. Fashion designers don't get money back for people selling their old clothes to second hand stores and neither should EA expect a dime from legitimate customers who simply don't want to play their game any more.
I'm all for anti-piracy measures... so long as they WORK. All too often I buy a legal copy of a game and run into problems preventing me from playing my legal copy.. ironically from the anti-piracy measures. Even more ironic is that I often turn to piracy solutions to play the game I paid for. So not only is it not preventing pirates from playing but it's preventing legal owners from freely enjoying a product they paid for.
This is EA using piracy as a scapegoat because they don't have the balls to outright and say it: We don't want you selling our game because we don't see a dime of it. - Fhwqhgads, on 09/13/2008, -0/+35actually people cant play the game when, where, or how they want. Did you read anything else about this Spore thing?
- Skab, on 09/13/2008, -0/+35***** EA, pirate spore for free!!
- heartsblood, on 09/13/2008, -0/+35How much does EA pay PR's these days?
- inactive, on 09/13/2008, -1/+34Did you read the article? They specifically stated they weren't after pirates - they figured pirates would crack any DRM they implemented. They were trying to stop people from, say, sharing it with friends, or installing it on multiple computers in their house. Consequently, it's the paying customers that are hurt because, let's say you've used your three installs and BAM, your hard drive conks out.
- igyigyigy, on 09/13/2008, -0/+33Do what you want cos a pirate is free!
- gilbert42989, on 09/13/2008, -3/+35i want to download it twice just to piss the off even more.
- CarnivalOfDust, on 09/13/2008, -0/+30I feel really bad for Will. This whole 'dumb-for-the-casual-gamer' and DRM thing is destroying what was an incredible vision of a videogame. Poor guy.
- iticu, on 09/13/2008, -5/+33You didn't pay for it, and then you read some reviews and decided the gameplay sucked, even though you hadn't played it, and then decided to delete it.
God damn, don't you see how retarded that sounds? - earlvanze, on 09/13/2008, -2/+29I already downloaded Spore. twice (because I was wondering which one was faster).
Like conversekid, I'm a broke-ass teen. - Nuhaus, on 09/13/2008, -0/+26With this DRM a pirate is me!
- frascellyboy273, on 09/13/2008, -0/+25Don't copy that floppy!
- hasansexy, on 09/13/2008, -24/+49Now, that my friend, is just silly
- cheeseron, on 09/13/2008, -0/+24Haha they'll probably add all that cool stuff in expansion packs. I hate EA so much...
- str1fe, on 09/13/2008, -0/+24Maxis worked hard on developing this game.
- dperren, on 09/13/2008, -2/+25Why are companies still bothering with DRM? Every single game release ever has had any copy protection measures placed upon it broken almost instantaneously on release. Would it not be cheaper and easier for them to say 'we know people are going to pirate this, but it is a fact of life. As such, we'll release it with no DRM, and hope to attract customers who will hopefully offer us some modicum of respect due to us not treating them like criminals'.
It would be interesting to see what happened to a high-quality big-budget release if that were applied to it. - griffeycom, on 09/13/2008, -1/+24http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Xfqkdh5Js4
