- Hazardc, on 10/11/2007, -9/+387project was cancelled when every time gameplay was tested, player evolved into this and then the game froze. programmers were unable to overcome the issue
http://www.bluesnews.com/miscimages/dukebig.jpg - acex23, on 10/11/2007, -25/+287FTA: Electronic Arts says that "Spore has slipped out of fiscal 08 and into fiscal 09".
...doesn't seem too indefinite to me. - Parabol, on 10/11/2007, -8/+198Goose!
- e2superman, on 10/11/2007, -15/+198It will be ready when it's ready.
Spore Forever! - mesmeriffic, on 10/11/2007, -19/+179*****!!!
- TrevorBradley, on 10/11/2007, -16/+170In the computer game world, when a computer game has been delayed this much, and now from 08 into 09....
I hate to say it folks, but Spore is for all practical purposes dead. - thenativeraver, on 10/11/2007, -7/+157NO!!!
- TheIneffableBob, on 10/11/2007, -10/+151*****!
- AhrenBa, on 10/11/2007, -11/+149Damn! That sucks! That game looked so amazing, fun, innovative, and creative. :(
- oflaherty, on 10/11/2007, -15/+150*****!
- xerus, on 10/11/2007, -7/+132Ugh... the problem with Spore is that they never set any realistic goals with the game. "Hey, lets simulate the universe." somehow doesn't really sound too achievable (in a reasonable amount of time) to me.

- Zippo, on 10/11/2007, -8/+120One of these days I will have a computer with an Optimus keyboard, Duke Nukem Forever, Spore, and a stable version of Windows.
- Dotcommer, on 10/11/2007, -10/+119The selective digging in this reply string is hilarious to me. Everyone but one gets dugg up, even though they all said the exact same thing. Its as if the digg gods decided to ***** on Radionesiac on a whim. Hahahah
- Urusai, on 10/11/2007, -3/+110Spore and Duke Nukem are launch titles for the Phantom console.
Happy? - rockforever, on 10/11/2007, -7/+106@linkedlist
Welcome to the internet, allow me to introduce you to Duke Nukem Forever - Gordin, on 10/11/2007, -7/+91guys, it's not being delayed as long as it seems. It seems Ea fiscal year 2009 begins May 2008.
Check this out http://www.sporeuniverse.net - Tunguska, on 10/11/2007, -4/+76Oh well, back to my cave for another few years.
- rockforever, on 10/11/2007, -1/+68@Radionesiac
Wow, there was a great joke waiting to happen in that comment, but you were to premature to conceive it properly.
:D - wisedude, on 10/11/2007, -4/+69dude, if this is true I'll cry
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -4/+62Here, have some tissues!
Yes, they're damp, I've already used them - Sharkee, on 10/11/2007, -7/+65DO WANT!
- tazx, on 10/11/2007, -1/+57Will Wright showed extensive in-game demos of all stages of the game, from amoeba through city-building to space.
- CapnDeviance, on 10/11/2007, -3/+51As much as I would have hated to agree with you a year ago, I think you're right now. As far as sandbox goes, there's really only so far that can take you. It's going to need to have a really solid plan and path to take before it's released, and that's really not what was on their mind when they started making it.
"Oh, I know, let's do a game where you mold a civilization from its microbic beginnings to the point where you're a demigod! Let's also let the player control it in different forms throughout the entire evolutionary chain!"
"Sounds good. How do you propose we transition between different phases?"
"We can worry about that later!"
Later being after it's been hyped to hell. I wonder what will come out first, this or DNF. - Beevo, on 10/11/2007, -4/+52Screw EA anyway. They account for 90% of what's wrong with gaming right now .
- TheMongo, on 10/11/2007, -15/+55Wow, not even a Duke Nukem comment? Who the hell are you people?
- aut665, on 10/11/2007, -2/+41Ah, tiny little question/misunderstanding/whatever.
Um... I read the article and it says that EA said in response that "'Spore has slipped out of fiscal 08 and into fiscal 09.'"
Isn't that what everyone has known since May 9th? Fiscal 09 doesn't necessarily mean 2009... it means the fiscal year ending in 2009. So that fiscal year starts around spring of 2008... right?
Am I reading that article incorrectly? Or are we overreacting a bit? I thought the info EA gives in this article is what we've known for over a month. - Dpack1, on 10/11/2007, -1/+36 @xerus, CapnDeviance & Rockforever:
Apparently none of you have played any other of Will Wrights games...
Where there any long term goals for ANY of the Sim games?
The whole point of them is to play it through in one certain style once, then when get bored of sandboxing at the end of the game you start over and play it differently.
In SimCity each time i restarted i'd use a new random map and its a whole new challenge of laying out a city plan.
In the Sims i'd choose a different career path, or live with more people or use different skill sets.
In Spore you'd have almost limitless path choices of what to do with your creature as you make it evolve to where you could play through once and become a huge carnivourus beast race with hitech machinary, or a peace loving bunch of plant eaters with organing looking buildings and vehicles.
In short, his games dont NEED goals to acheive, thats a by product of the console generation. - eclipxe, on 10/11/2007, -3/+38See e2superman's comment above
"It will be ready when it's ready.
Spore Forever!" - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -8/+42@dotcommer
he's a republican - ldkronos, on 10/11/2007, -1/+31@dotcommer: "Its as if the digg gods decided to ***** on Radionesiac on a whim."
I figured it was because of his cum tissue post up above. - LQBMaV, on 10/11/2007, -1/+30@gordin
EA fiscal year '09 actually starts April of '08
not to be picky, but that's sooner ;) - RoboPimp3000, on 10/11/2007, -7/+35Well, it's gonna take time. A whole lot of precious time. It's gonna take patience and time. To do it right, child. To do it, to do it, to do it, to do it right.
- GyroTech, on 10/11/2007, -2/+30If you take a look at the GDC demo vids ( http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=8372603330420559198 ), you'll see that each section, microscopic to space-faring demigod were all realised fairly early on...
There was just no sign of how the transition would ever happen. Now, I was excited about Spore but this lack of exactly how one goes from one stage to another always had me being sceptical... - l33tsauce, on 10/11/2007, -2/+29"I don't think a year or two is that big of a delay at all"
Sincerely: Duke Nukem Forever. - rauz, on 10/11/2007, -1/+28Life is like a box of ammo...
- bIuebonics, on 10/11/2007, -0/+26you're a complete moron. the original sim city was the *****.
- spudnic, on 10/11/2007, -2/+28@Beevo (#7278257)
Don't blame EA, blame the people who buy the ***** rehashed sequels again and again - ThinkBox, on 10/11/2007, -1/+27Im finding a trend with most of your comments... I wonder what the link is...
- qwertylicious, on 10/11/2007, -0/+24At least EA isn't doing the normal and rushing it before releasing a half-arsed excuse for a game.

Ummm...its Kotaku. You must be new to digg... - Vetteguy182, on 10/11/2007, -3/+21After all the hype surrounding this, people would start boycotting if EA canceled this title...
- cleric85, on 10/11/2007, -0/+18Awww man I gotta keep myself from dying for another 2 years. *****!
- iamtheinternet, on 10/11/2007, -0/+17***** that, blame both.
- Beevo, on 10/11/2007, -4/+20If you own a PC and still want it ported to the Xbox there is something seriously wrong with you. I understand wanting ports of games for people who don't own computers, but for those that do, the PC version is always going to be better for rts and strategy type games.
- jamizzle, on 10/11/2007, -0/+16I don't think it's going to be canceled... They're hiring people to work on the game: here's a craigslist posting from today: http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/sof/355691359.html
- dezmo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+15SPORE WILL COME WHEN YOU LEAST EXPECT IT.
HAVE FAITH! - brianbennett, on 10/11/2007, -6/+21Whatever... y'all take all the time you need to get it right.
