- Starviper, on 09/07/2008, -6/+271You wonder why people pirate games.
- oorza, on 09/07/2008, -16/+188What a lame response. ***** EA, I'll never buy one of their games again.
One customer lost. - redoctane, on 09/07/2008, -6/+124Why worry if it can play Crysis if EA won't let you play?
- doshindude, on 09/08/2008, -5/+114THIS is why people pirate games.
- panpizza15, on 09/08/2008, -2/+103This guy has some things to say about this problem. (skip to 6:03 for the best part)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-uulRB1OmY - Vascor, on 09/07/2008, -10/+89I was going to buy Spore tomorrow but between this and SecuROM no thanks
Time to hit up the torrent sites - GreyColumbus, on 09/07/2008, -7/+82Guess I'm not getting Spore.
- wafflesomd, on 09/08/2008, -1/+74I like how I bought Crysis from EA's website, because none of the stores had it.
I went to download it recently, but of course, I can't. I paid $60 U.S. for that title. I should have access to it at all times.
A quick little search on TPB and I was good to go :) - ryan83189, on 09/07/2008, -3/+64This is what the phone "support" guy in india does when he is ignoring you on the phone, I kid you not. They work for many cooperations and have binders for several products with all of the run arounds and "solutions" for your problem and email clients with responses like this built in. They peruse the email and click a cookie cutter response they think might work. Phone support gets money for every call that is not passed up "aka to the guy who kind of knows what he is doing" and to ones where the customer_says_ that the problem is solved. Some try to intentionally be unhelpful or rude just to get you to lie and say the problem is solved. None of them know what they are doing and their english skills are okay, but not good enough to work a job that requires them. This is what customer service has come too, just to save a buck. I had some major problems with my TV, my idiot brother got into the factory calibration settings some how and screwed up the color alignment, and it was like pulling teeth to even tell the guy what had happened. I told him everything, and that this was not going to be a normal call, that I probably needed answers beyond what he knew, since I assumed he was the "How do I put the batteries in?" guy. No such luck in getting anything remotely helpful. I finally figured out the button combo to get in and tinkered with the settings myself and got it back to good working order. Serious customer support should be taken more seriously. The cookie cutters are fine for the "How do I put the batteries in?" guy, or in this case the "How do I put the disk in?" guy, but some more expertized support is needed when things go really bad.
- Pewpewpew, on 09/07/2008, -0/+55I stopped buying EA games a long time ago. As if SecuROM wasn't a good enough deterrent, their customer support is abominable.
- colosis, on 09/08/2008, -1/+55wow, finally an article about customer support thats not from the consumerist.
- inactive, on 09/08/2008, -9/+61Me neither: http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/4375656/Spore-RELO ...
- m3unit07, on 09/07/2008, -4/+47man, i gave up on EA a long time ago. after this, i hope other do as well
- dsmx, on 09/08/2008, -0/+42Don't know why you got dugg down companies keep saying how bad piracy is and how it is killing PC gaming, but piracy is a result of every single company saying ***** you to the customer at every opportunity. The simply don't care about you once they have your money they don't care what happens to it.
- apzdsx, on 09/08/2008, -2/+43It's fun for the first few hours.
Then you get bored.
Then you rush to the ending.
Then you find out the ending sucks.
Then you end up not buying it. - Seann7656, on 09/08/2008, -0/+36I had the same kind of thing happen to me with Steam. They refunded me the full amount with no resistance.
EA should take a hint... - MetalLizard, on 09/08/2008, -1/+37I stopped paying for EA games ***** when they destroyed Westwood and Maxis.
- jpjandrade, on 09/08/2008, -4/+35The game sucks, seriously, don't even bother.
Instead, I recommend:
www.steampowered.com
have fun - Lkr721993, on 09/07/2008, -3/+34I remember a few years ago, I was having problems with an older EA Sports game, and the man I got on the phone actually sat on the phone for 2 hours until I got it working. Those were the days when EA cared about the consumer.
- V1ncent, on 09/08/2008, -5/+33OK raise your hand if you knew that link already
- Borgcube636, on 09/07/2008, -0/+27I knew EA was bad when they shut down Earth and Beyond a few years ago :(
- kyleisgreat, on 09/08/2008, -0/+26valve does pretty good as well
- TheLostChild1, on 09/07/2008, -0/+26I felt he acted very cordially and professionally as a CUSTOMER for a respectable amount of time. At which point, when he knew he wasn't getting anywhere he escalated.
As a customer, when you've paid for something, and you're continually being denied what you've paid for, or a reasonable alternative, I would find it hard to stay level headed for as long as he did. :) - TheLostChild1, on 09/07/2008, -1/+26While I agree that he could have called, not everyone knows how, or wants to used a Cracked .exe to play their game.
Some people have morals.
Some people just don't know how.
But the bottom line remains, that is not up to him, that is not what he paid for.
That's like if you bought a DVD, and you wanted to watch your Bonus Features, but in order to do so, you had to go to an obscure pawn shop and pick up a second DVD which had the special features on them for free... - darkened, on 09/08/2008, -0/+22And then you'll find out you're really glad you didn't buy it.
- Halokhan, on 09/08/2008, -2/+23Yah EA is trash. They are only looking for more money. ***** the customer after they buy the game, we already have their money.
- ry4nsm1th, on 09/07/2008, -2/+22Eh I heard it gets boring quickly anyway.
- spammishking, on 09/08/2008, -0/+20no, as a matter of fact I'm download a pirated version of an EA game I've already purchased, because there was a problem with the original game. The few games I've "pirated" are because I've already purchased the game, but have run into problems (such as a scratched disc, lost serial number, and a beta patch problem with BF 2142, which EA gave me the run around too) I refuse to pay for the same game twice
- dbxz, on 09/08/2008, -0/+19...and then you bookmark thepiratebay.
- phpchris, on 09/07/2008, -1/+20and he did quite clearly write "IF THIS PROBLEM IS BEYOND YOUR TRAINING, PLEASE DO NOT WASTE ANY MORE OF OUR TIME; REFER ME TO YOUR SUPERVISOR"
which they didn't do - turion64, on 09/08/2008, -3/+21I'm under the impression that Blizzard is the only remaining sane company that isn't just concerned about making money and ripping off customers. If you want to see what it means to support your fans and listen to them, look at Blizzard.
- ginogrz, on 09/08/2008, -2/+20Spot on Halokhan. Such has been the situation for EVERY EA game I have ever played. I haven't bought an EA game in a while and don't plan to ever again. RIP Westwood.
- mbonzo531, on 09/08/2008, -6/+23Yea but can it run cr.... nevermind.
- stargatesteve, on 09/08/2008, -4/+20EA is terrible. between bad customer support, DRM, and outages, they are having serious problems as a company. Their BF2 awards servers seen to go up and down by the day. Their BF2142 servers have been down for a week. pathetic.
- fwertz, on 09/08/2008, -0/+15"Me:
Dear EA Support,
But can it run Crysis at max settings?"
"EA:
Hi,
Wouldn't you like to know? Try purchasing a new trial.
*****." - manacit2, on 09/07/2008, -0/+15Indeed, I'm sure it would be hard to stay level headed. EA support *should* have elevated the issue to the next tier of support, it was quite obvious none of them knew what to do. Hopefully if this gets frontpaged they'll do something about it :)
- phpchris, on 09/07/2008, -0/+15uhh, hence the point of this digg
- kjcdude, on 09/08/2008, -0/+15I love steam
- xGrill, on 09/08/2008, -0/+15Id is good about not ripping off customers, I mean to play quake3, all you needed to do was type AAAAAAAAAAA in the cd key field and it would let you play.
- Evilblobs, on 09/08/2008, -0/+14Spore shoudn't be titled as a game; but as a sandbox creator.
As for the gameplay itself, the tidepool is decent fun, but from creature to city it is just dull after about the first 10 minutes of the game.
The best parts are Creating your creature/building/vehicle, and working in the sandbox world that is the space phase.
Its an excellent sandbox game, but a poor game game. - BigManOnCampus, on 09/07/2008, -6/+20I'm constantly amazed that anyone plays any online/service-oriented PC game sold, made or run by EA. They're worse than Microsoft.
- BigManOnCampus, on 09/07/2008, -7/+21...and then you read these things.
- cheapotheclown, on 09/08/2008, -1/+14...to download porn.
- dbxz, on 09/08/2008, -0/+13I got a little scared at the end there but i totally agree.
- Dracusis, on 09/08/2008, -1/+13Kinda hard not to buy EA games, they own more than half the developers.
- Nyuura, on 09/08/2008, -2/+14ya know after reading this, i think i too will never buy from EA again. i think the last EA game i bought was Crysis. i don't think i'm going to buy crysis warhead. instead i'll buy far cry 2. i've actually delt with ubisoft tech support before and it actually was a pretty good experience. its a FAR CRY from the ***** that EA does to you.
- mattva01, on 09/08/2008, -0/+11Yeah EA sucks...
Two companies I have been constantly impressed with are Valve and Blizzard entertainment. Any time I have ever had an issue with either companies products, the CS representatives responded quickly, personally responded to my ticket ( no cut and paste), and did not assume I was an idiot.
There is one event in particular that really sold me on Valve.
A month after I had moved back to the united states from europe, my desktop had just arrived from europe and I was eager to get on steam and play half life 2:lost coast or something. When I attempted to sign on though, it told me my account had been deactivated. I filed a ticket, and 5 minutes later was told that they were investigating it for possible account theft (due to having been in a country with tons of piracy probably ). They asked for my CD-keys to reactivate my account.Unfortunately for me, my CD keys were in one of hundreds of boxes sitting in my house. After explaining my situation , they reactivated my account, no questions asked. - SpongeBad, on 09/08/2008, -1/+12Sorry, but Xbox 360 support sucks. A friend of mine is going through an issue with Microsoft that's not that different from this guy's. She bought an XBL Arcade game about a year ago, her XBox RROD'd and now she can't play the game. She just wants to re-download it, but they keep telling her she never bought it.
Quite frankly, DRM is making software on all platforms suck. - Lazymoon, on 09/08/2008, -0/+10EA's got that solved to, they release games so half-done, they're not worth pirating!
- PedroSttau, on 09/08/2008, -3/+13Absolutely Disgraceful, would be interested to know how this turns out.
