- kaffein, on 10/11/2007, -0/+40You forget the real reason to get EP:2, Team Fortress 2... and Portals should be pretty nifty.
- BugMeNot2, on 10/11/2007, -0/+35Valve has said that Episode Two will be around 2 hours longer than Episode One, bringing it to around 7 to 8 hours long--about the length of an average game.
- Rosewood, on 10/11/2007, -1/+25This looks like it will be awesome.
- plhearn, on 10/11/2007, -4/+27Screw the new episode. I'm buying it just for Team Fortress 2!
- dbre2, on 10/11/2007, -0/+19mmm...white text on black background, my favorite
- BugMeNot2, on 10/11/2007, -0/+17It should run fairly well. Valve has always been committed to being able to create games that can run on weaker machines. An example of this is their support of DirectX 6 (yes, 6) in Half-Life 2 and their usage of INT16 HDR (which is harder to implement) in Half-Life 2: Lost Coast and Half-Life 2: Episode One, letting cards like the X800 and 6800GT use both HDR and AA at the same time. Most games like The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and Serious Sam 2 use FP16 HDR.
- a3r0, on 10/11/2007, -1/+16and Portal!
- vh1`, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14obviously you're not familiar with valve :)
- bergur1, on 10/11/2007, -1/+15I think the main selling point won't be JUST HL:EP2 but the two other games included with it. For about $50 you will be getting portal, Team Fortress 2, AND the aforementioned game.
- veeshy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11gorgeous
- SamKellett, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11Like everyone else I can't wait for TF2, but I hope Ep2 is longer than Ep1.
- niceyuk, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10who cares when it comes out, Valve games are always worth waiting for.

/fanboy - cquinnd, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8"Umm...you do know what episodic content is right? EP1 was never promised to be as long as the original Half-Life 2."
No, but it was promised to be released faster because they could split the content into episodes.
Not that I'm complaining too much, EP1 had great replayability just by turning the commentary on. - JagoX, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8Umm...you do know what episodic content is right? EP1 was never promised to be as long as the original Half-Life 2.
HL2 Episodes 1 thru 3 _are_ Half-Life 3 broken up into 3 chunks...so basically your complaints are pointless complaints b/c you are missing the purpose of games. - foolfromhell, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Lets take a look.
6 years for HL2.
HL3 is basically in 3 parts, Episode 1, 2, and 3.
Episode 1 came out roughly 2 years after HL2.
Meaning, its basically going to be 6 years per game, but in installments that we can play every two years. Not a bad deal! Especially considering TF2 and Portal... and Portal is set in the HL universe and Valve dropped some hints of a tie-in on the stories in Episode 3, as in Freeman will meet the Portal protagonist. - pegisys, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7what was it 7 years between HL and HL2 I think they are making decent progress considering their track record :)
- mythandros, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6Expanding EP2 by 2 hours makes it worth the purchase, assuming they don't raise their price.
- androothebear, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5We'd better see some new, awesome guns..
headcrab launcher, anyone? - JagoX, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5HL2 Episode 1 came out in June 2006...it hasn't even been a year yet.
- spiffyfitz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I'm just gonna throw this out there... You're an asshat.
- djfreex, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Nothing has excited me as much as HL2 in my last 15 gaming years. HL 1/2 is still the most revolutionary PC game ever.
I am all for episodic content since they took 6 some years to develop the damn thing. They should be cashing in. They put hardwork in it. Unlike many other developers, they still develop the engine, gameplay, graphics etc. Valve is not like the corporate minded developers out there.
Team Fortress 2 is a important IPO as I am curious to see what they have done with it.
Although Portal looks pretty nifty, I dont expect much of it. I think its going to be pretty short and they are testing waters with it. If it holds though, expect ***** of user created maps and additional packs. That game screams for a Map Editor :)
Until HL3 comes in, I am waiting for Crysis - Dybowski, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5HL1 was boring to me, it was oh no! they found aliens somehow and there killing us all, mass extermination kinda thing. Lame in my opinion
HL2 on the other hand had the issues of a society trying to coexist with new found life forms, which just happen to have hostile beings. Saving a alien totalitarian society currently involved in a drastic police state Was the greatest plot i have ever heard of.
These little snippets of a game are annoying though, i may just wait till a couple more "episodes" come out and play them in sequence. Or i may not. Either way Valve is making more money be releasing these games in episodes, if valve has more money than it can make more games, so its not all evil. - st3vo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4"Valve's current completion estimate for Half-Life 2, which will ship for PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 along with Team Fortress 2 and Portal, is late September or early October."
..more like late October. - Protoss, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Yeah I've got to say, they delay their games a whole ***** lot, but when they are released, they are amazing, and, unlike other games their games are actually playable upon release. No need for patches out the door.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3@lacronicus
As Bugmenot2 said HDR in the source engine is implemented with shader model 2 so he will be able to have HDR
also I played the HL2 demo on my old Intel extreme 2 with a 2.5Ghz Celeron - dmason, on 10/11/2007, -4/+7lime?
- t3hNinj4, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Half-Life 2 ran reasonably well with low settings on my computer (a 3-year old 2.9 GHz 1GB ram nVidia FX 5500), and Episode 1 ran a good deal better, presumably due to improvements in the engine.
Unfortunately, it looks like Episode 3 might not follow suit; I read in an interview the other day that stats showed most people played the games on computers that could easily run them on medium or high, and continuing support for the small minority of players on low-end computers isn't a priority. It might still run okay on our crappy PC's, but with the larger environments, better AI and improved effects, I wouldn't be surprised if old Luigi can't take it anymore. Oh well. - dsimonpower, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3@ dezertrat
That is a little better than my setup, which ran ep1 pretty much perfectly at high detail. And FPS is better with a mouse if you have the choice. - chopsticks765, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3@dezertrat
the 360 version will probably have better graphics than your pc, but youd be giving up old mousy and keyboard. thats the dealbreaker for me...id much rather play fps, esp tf2 multi, with a mouse/kb than rubber nipples. also i believe the 360 version will cost more, at $60 as opposed to $50 for the pc. - geoffreyireland, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Screenshots ain't new except the Alyx/car one.
The rest can be found in the preview videos including the kickass visuals in the destruction of that house by a Strider.
This game is going to rule. - Litzau, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2jesus christ ppl..please read the ***** article before asking questions!
- DiggDuggDugged, on 10/11/2007, -3/+5@fuzzmeister:
You know, it's interesting that you would say that. I will be buying the Orange box version (HL2 plus Episodes 1 & 2, plus TF2 and Portal) for my 360 whenever it releases and yet I'm as dedicated a PC gamer as you will find.
I've got over 25 years experience playing "computer" games and I've been playing "PC" (read: IBM) games since the CGA era and yet I look forward to buying this for my 360. Why? I simply no longer have the time or money to stay on top of the PC hardware upgrade cycle and I have a device that is perfectly capable of running the game in all of it's graphical glory sitting in my living room. I also personally don't buy into the idea that FPS games are inherently better on the PC. I don't understand how a keyboard/mouse combo is a better input system than a modern console controller that has 12 buttons, two analog sticks, and a D pad (at least the 360 controller does). In my experience either system gets it done but it is a subjective matter and I understand ones personal preference.
All I'm saying is don't mock someones decision to buy a game for a console over a PC. There are plenty of people who will have a compelling reason to get it for either the 360 or PS3 (Either of which is more powerful than what probably 95% of Diggers have in their homes). What I do lament giving up is access to all of the user mods available for the PC version but I'm sure I'll ultimately pick up the PC version as part of some "platinum box" version, at least as soon as I get around to taking care of my poor PC situation. - nonymous666, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Hopefully we'll all live long enough to enjoy this. And the enjoyment will last more than a Saturday afternoon.
- MurderMystery, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Sorry, but I have to share this one with you guys.
http://hlcomic.com/index.php?date=2005-05-22 - JagoX, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3The episodes that Valve is releasing are HL3...Gabe Newell has said this countless times.

- idonthack, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Seriously. Looking at a white background is like looking into a flashlight.
- lacronicus, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2keep in mind that the x800 doe not support hdr, as it does not support sm3. get it for the xbox (oh how i hate saying that) in fact, you may be better getting it for the pc for the mods alone, unless youve already got hl2. then you ought to get it for the pc anyway, since you dont want two versions of hl2.
- dezertrat, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3So am i better off buying it for my pc (p4 3.0 1g DDR 3200 X800XT) or my 360 ?
- satori3000, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1considering ep 2 is shipping with both Portal and Team Fortress 2 I totally agree... but these screen shots have been available for months and months on Gamespot. This isn't really news.
- vh1`, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2the half-life series is the one thing that makes me regret swapping my desktop with a macbook
I will still buy it and play on a friend's computer - fuzzmeister, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4Who in their right mind would play Half-Life on a console?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0omfg how the ***** was HL2 horrible?! I bet your mom looks like gman after some 8 year old has been using the face poser for hours on gmod..
