- ImpoliteAndEvil, on 04/06/2009, -4/+98Should have submitted this under 'Xbox' instead of 'PC gaming'.
- gregatron, on 04/18/2008, -6/+74If this is true, Rockstar will have redefined the meaning of DLC.
- truspector, on 04/18/2008, -7/+63It's not totally inconceivable. The shivering isles expansion was over a gig and introduced an entirely new area to oblivion. Whether or not I end up buying this content will be determined by the price, but there's no way I'm not getting the 360 version and locking myself out of the possibility in the future.
- alittleroy101, on 04/18/2008, -2/+41I can't wait for horse armor.
- babylonian, on 04/18/2008, -0/+38Oh no! I might have to delete some of my precious HDD content, like that Kameo demo my 360 came with!!
I'm of the opinion that it can be as big as Rockstar wants, as long as it's affordable and fun. - CoolDude330, on 04/18/2008, -3/+34I appreciate the intelligent comment user "360 SUCKS" provided to this article.
"lol who cares… its only 10 hours of extra gameplay thats ***** for the price they are gna charge and wats the point in the new content wen u cant play it online each other? mircrosoft your a failiure like uve alwayz been. more people actually bought the PS3 version of gta IV than 360 ha!" - StolenLamp, on 04/18/2008, -0/+25What a ***** tool.
- CrimsonBlur, on 04/18/2008, -9/+32This is awesome news! Sounds like these expansions will be even bigger than Shivering Isles, which I was very impressed by. I kept thinking I had to be getting close to the end and it kept going (and not in a boring way).
I have to say I am confounded by the people claiming to own both a PS3 and 360 that are saying they'd get the PS3 version. I have both, and there is no way in hell I would miss out on two potentially huge DLC packages. That just doesn't make any sense to me... something tells me these people are PS3 fanboys and do not, in fact, own both consoles.
As far as the controllers are concerned, I just got a DualShock 3, which is slightly bulkier than the SixAxis, which makes it even worse ergonomically but the extra weight is nice (although that may just be personal since I have small hands). The 360 controller is hands-down superior for any game that uses the left stick = movement, right stick = look control scheme, which makes up about 90% of the games released today, including GTA IV. The face buttons on the DualShock are much better, and the D-pad is awesome (the 360 D-pad is useless), but that doesn't help much in anything but fighting games. I don't see how you could own both consoles and prefer the PS3 controller for anything other than fighting games and perhaps the added bonus of tilt sensitivity (which is fun but a bit gimmicky). - seastobble, on 04/18/2008, -0/+22Ugh, April 29th couldn't come soon enough...
- exomni, on 04/18/2008, -4/+25Let me get this straight: Rockstar, who released GTA III seven years ago, is JUST NOW getting on your list of "favorite developers", not because of all the amazing games they've released or their panache for biting social commentary and pushing the envelope of what videogames can be, but because of some internet rumor?
- joegibes, on 04/18/2008, -8/+28~450mb for 3 maps for Halo. 'Nuff said.
- abhinavkumar, on 04/18/2008, -3/+22I had been on the fence on which version to buy, achievements just were not cutting it for me. Well this sort of breaks the fence in half and slaps you in the face screaming that you that you must buy the 360 version. Seriously, entire cities? Can you imagine flying from NYC to Paris? Or how about Tokyo?
- exomni, on 04/18/2008, -12/+29I'd hardly use the word "only" to describe 40% of something.
- dsmx, on 04/18/2008, -10/+24It should be pointed out this all based on speculation there is no proof and the mag in question is funded quite heavily by microsoft as is said on that web page. I wouldn't get your hopes up.
- wageslaven, on 04/18/2008, -22/+36That doesn't make *any* sense. The two controllers are very close in design. They both set up the left analogue stick as the "navigate" stick and the right the "look" stick.
This is UNIVERSAL for 3D games. And, knowing that the majority of games are becoming 3D in this nature, the Xbox 360 controller moved the left stick to a more natural position (as in neutral anthropometric position) - this reduces stress and fatigue.
Really, the Xbox 360 from an ergonomic POV, is much better than the PS3 controller... it feels "natural" for a reason - it was designed that way. While the PS3 control was designed to feel like the PS1/2 controller, which, while "familiar" to some, are not good for you ergonomically.
You're really kinda blowing smoke.... - StolenLamp, on 04/18/2008, -9/+22Buried for "M$"... it's just dumb now.
- Swellin, on 04/18/2008, -7/+20Just to refresh your memory since you like the previous gtas because the "engine is more tailored towards the console" meaning the ps2, you should know that the lead console this time round was the 360.
- etgoboom, on 04/18/2008, -3/+15i will believe it when i see it
- cli006, on 04/18/2008, -18/+30The original source is sponsored by M$,
Now consider this, the entire GTA IV map isn't nearly as big as San Andreas.. do you honestly think DLC will give you another city bigger than the one in the actual game? Please. - philhatesyou, on 04/18/2008, -3/+15GT5:P isn't a demo. You'd have to be a total ***** moron to think so. Unless you haven't actually read what it comes with and are just spouting off *****, in which case you're a loud mouthed little ***** who needs a bigger dick in his mouth. Which is it?
It's also worth noting that this is all just rumor and speculation. Though, we all know Microsoft would NEVER lie about a future product to convince people to not buy the competition. - Nextrix, on 04/18/2008, -4/+15I don't get it... do you work at Microsoft or something?! Like I understand the whole fan boy plague but really all that is coming out of all your comments is how everything about the Xbox is so great and how PS3 is so wrong in every element. Hell I even went to check out some of your previous comments on other threads on Digg. They payed you a lot of money right? I bet your one of there large stock owners.... No wait maybe you work at the Microsoft gaming department as a marketer. Ya thats got to be the one!
Is it really worth all the hassle arguing which one is better, even when the dam game is not out yet?! Sometime I really wonder why there is so much push and hype to get people to pick your console (or favorite) than the other. It is not like your going to benefit in anyway possible unless you work for the company or hold stock options! - SpectreFire, on 04/18/2008, -4/+15Who said it was free?
- happytedium, on 04/18/2008, -8/+19Glad I bought an Elite after all.
Can't wait for this game. This and Brawl are the decline of my third year uni grades. - AtiimKiambu, on 04/18/2008, -5/+15I'm really starting to get sick of XBox Live. I have to pay for the console and the games, which I'm fine with. Paying for the XBox Live service is annoying, but I can handle it. Now developers are releasing downloadable content for an additional fee. And what's worse, is that they split up the releases so that you have to pay multiple times. I'm willing to bet that there will be several releases of GTA IV content, and each one will cost 5 or 10 dollars, which isn't that much until you realize that the total price of the game + content is over 100 bucks.
- logicalnoise, on 04/18/2008, -0/+10I dugg the one from earlier today in xbox but it never got going digg wise.
- HolyChimp, on 04/18/2008, -0/+10London, ala the expansion for GTA1. That would be the dogs bollocks.
- Gerz1219, on 04/18/2008, -0/+10DLC for a game like this actually makes perfect sense, it's just never been done before. All of the engine data is on the disc, along with most of the assets necessary to build a new city (residential buildings, NPCs, street textures, and most of the car models can be re-used, for example). They could probably build Chicago or Boston with a 1 GB download. It would probably be tough to do something international like Paris or Tokyo without a huge download, however. But I'd still pay an extra $20 or $30 for a smaller city with new missions.
- BigBadBob1982, on 04/18/2008, -0/+10so what about when it comes to the PC? Will it be available either as a free download (or part of the game when you buy it) or a pay download?
That would really blow to get screwed out of content simply because I don't want a console. - random19, on 04/18/2008, -0/+10Shivering Isles was totally worth it, I'd just like to point out. (Better than Oblivion's main quest.)
- Swellin, on 04/18/2008, -6/+15Really? are you already forgetting about the 50Million MS gave to rockstar, it wasn't so they could release it on the ps3. Get real i hope that was sarcasm.
- Dragular, on 04/18/2008, -1/+10Well I guess he could spend all of his time glued to the internet, desperately searching for things to belittle other people about on a website. But that'd be sad.
- Dylan47, on 04/18/2008, -2/+11i guess the lack of beeps and squares is un-alluring to you, unfortunate.
- m0nte, on 04/18/2008, -1/+10So what if they charge you $10 for 15% more game area. Are you that broke or do you need permission from mom? What's $10 or $15? Lunch is $10 and what do you do with that after ?Think about what you fools say first. Something that you can use for days/hours for $10-$15 is a very good deal. Add up what you spend on lunch for a week. Fat boys
- salmonmoose, on 04/18/2008, -2/+11I own both consoles (actually all 5 current gen consoles) and the tilt control really irritates me, not because it's bad, but because it's just tacked into games, it really breaks the flow.
- metallikop, on 04/18/2008, -0/+9You realize that you don't HAVE to download the new content, right? I'm all for companies making available whatever content they want. WIth Oblivion, for example, I downloaded the big 'expansion' but not all the other small content. I downloaded the map pack for COD4 but wouldn't pay for a new gun.
I'm glad you're fine with paying for the console and the games, that's nothing new. You also don't have to pay for XBL if you don't want to, it's an additional feature that you're paying to use. XBL does need some work but it's by far the best service out there. I'm actually a fan of devs splitting the content up, I'd rather pay $5 for content I want then $5.50 for new content with a few stupid gamer pics.
R* will do their best, I'm sure, to make your money worth it otherwise very few people would buy the content. This is going to be a big experiment for them and I'm sure Microsoft wants (needs) it to succeed as much as R* does. Microsoft paid big money, I'm sure, to R* to get them to do exclusive content for the 360 and they'll do their best to get their money back. - mdaize, on 04/18/2008, -8/+16So, if this is true, what about the common knowledge that there is in fact going to be DLC for other systems that host this game such as the PS3?
- Myonosken, on 04/18/2008, -1/+9Are you an advertiser or something?
- staticneuron, on 04/18/2008, -0/+8It's not to bad on the PS3 becuase of its Non Proprietary hard drive.... it turns out I still have over 232 gigs to waste.
- Dylan47, on 04/18/2008, -1/+9should have submitted to Godzilla
- mr.hostility, on 04/18/2008, -4/+12Probably Long Island. Let's run over snobby, yuppie scum!
- andregriffin, on 04/18/2008, -0/+7Looks like I'm gonna need a bigger boat...
- Harbinger67, on 04/18/2008, -4/+11Halo has nothing on GTA4. 'Nuff said.
- drunknmunky1, on 04/18/2008, -2/+9Please hurry April 29. I'm not sure I can last much longer.
- StolenLamp, on 04/18/2008, -1/+7Plus all the forge items and such.
- xNIBx, on 04/18/2008, -0/+6The whole game is there but there is extra content if you are interested to pay for more. The same way when you buy a car, you can pay extra to get more accessories or a faster engine.
- logicalnoise, on 04/18/2008, -2/+8except from the sound of it the game would be coming out this fall instead of around now. SO yeah remeber game content doesn't make itself and it doesn't get made quickly. and again MS paid for DLC to be made after the full game was released in line with the ps3 version. I'm sure Rockstar could have delayed teh 360 version to include the content that they are now making but then MS would be considered getting second fiddle to ps3.
- ChildeRoland420, on 04/18/2008, -0/+6I've heard from Rockstar that there will be DLC for the PS3, just different from that of the 360. I'm sure you can find the article if you look for it.
- Brad324, on 04/18/2008, -5/+11that would land them in lawsuit land
- Duositex, on 04/18/2008, -3/+8I remember the issues people had with Dead Rising with their console running for hours and hours on end... I would be afraid to buy the 360 version.
- wageslaven, on 04/18/2008, -14/+19Do you have *ANY* citation for that claim?
