        Do you really justify a $300-500 GPU upgrade to play one or two good games a year? Unfortunately the money is in consoles and developers know this too well. PC gaming is slowing down. Unless you love RTS games of course :)

Can't remember which developer said it, but they were expecting a lot of games now to be released first on console, but then improved and perfected on PC. Care to bet that GTA IV will be one of them?
      • dandonia, on 07/26/2008, -4/+1PC versions are cool n all but the ease of consoles is what most of use love. One upgrade every 5-10 yearsbeats the hell out of an upgrade every time a new game decides to push the limits - how many got new graphic cards/machines for crysis?

        I'm not knocking PC gaming as I always tend to buy the best PC I can ($4000+) for a reason, but I know that my 360 and soon to be PS3 games will continue to improve performance wise and substance wise while my PC will see performance drops and in 3 years when I am playing the highest quality 360 games I will only be able to play the mediocre titles on full.

        3 years from now, a cheap $400 PC will outdo your $4000 PC. So save money. A 4800 can be gotten for about $200 or less. Well worth it for 2 years.

Then in 3 years time when the PS3 is kicking out even better games than it is now the PC will need replacing. Then 3 years later when the PS3 is coming to the end of its life cycle thus releasing the PS3's best games ever my newest PC will need replacing. - do you see what I am sayin?

        The argument is that the business poeple dont get why anyone would want to switch palforms to play the same game thus there is not need to accomodate them because if you give out two copies of a game for the price of once then youre like to give thesecond copy to a friend for free... and nobody wants that.

        Console games generally don't require cd serials / keys and I know the 360 version doesn't. Also the past PC versions of GTA have never required cd keys iirc. Though, legally you still need to purchase the oc version even if you own the console version because of what haiduz said about licensing and copyright.

      • Arkz, on 07/30/2008, -0/+2not a chance in hell.. maybe with an 8800GT it could but a P4 3GHz aint exactly powerful, everyone thinks consoles are weak but their operating system uses about 20mB of ram and next to no processing power or other resources so it has considerably more power at hand than an equally specced pc.

        Take san andreas, to run it on an equal level as the ps2 ver you would probably need at least 256MB of ram, at least a 128MB 6600GT or 6800GT and at least a P4 1.6 or so.. the PS2 has 32MB of ram, 4MB of graphics ram and a 294MHz cpu...

        Please feel free to mod me down as much as you like people, im a complete tech head but i find most pc gamers shun consoles and insist they're pathetically weak, my pc can do about as well as a 360 and it has 2GB of DDR2 667, an 8800GT OC and an X2 4400, the 360 has what, 512mB of shared memory... and a GPU about as powerful as an old x1950... god i love being so knowledgeable, now bow before me minions! :)

        All Blizzard (Warcraft, Starcraft, Diablo) computer games are released simultaneously on Mac, and I think in almost all of their games the PC and Mac versions are on the same disc so there aren't separate versions in stores.

        I have a feeling that it is coming to PC and Rockstar themselves is behind many of the rumors and leaks, because it generates speculation and interest about the game.
        I'm guessing that in a matter of weeks they will make an official announcement and that the game will be out in late October / early November.

The difference between a small mouse movement and a large one is massive compared with the so called "analog" range on a thumbstick. also having 105 keys instead of a dozen buttons means more options for shortcuts in more complex games.

        A decent setup is to configure the thumbbuster to do the driving and using the mouse and keyboard for the FPS... In the past people have hacked these controls in but I am hoping they are native since it is such a pain to spend a couple hours getting things just right.

        On a side note... if you are a big FPS fan you should move over to ESDF this opens up another row of keys and leaves your hand on the home key for typing if you care.

It's good to know that GTA4 hasn't gone down the same path.

      Now to hope it doesn't come with DRM that murders your parents if you install it too much.

Almost instantly afterwards they retracted it and Rockstar came out and debunked it completely. Sorry guys, NO pc version of GTA IV.

      However this is a new generation of GTA and might require more time to port. Possibly we won't see it ported for a longer time than usual. It's still very likely they'll bring it over.

Halo 3 probably won't come out for PC for another year. But there really was no excuse this time to delay it other than the time it takes to change the game to make it for PC. Of course they could have worked on the PC version simultaneously but whatever. I'm very happy about this, now all I need to know to be satisfied with since I don't own a current gen console is that EA will make the PC sports games the same as the 360/ps3 versions and stop porting the PS2 versions to PC. Like FIFA and formerly Madden (no more madden pc ): .

      • Asianwaste, on 07/26/2008, -0/+1No. Piracy is a scapegoat to pass blame on so developers can move onto a more profitable platform with a clear conscience. Piracy on PC's has been around since PC's, its been a calculated as a variable for predicting profits.

        The real reason is because consoles are simply more profitable. They are easier to program for as they are universal on their platform which would mean less money to spend on tech support and patches. They are easier to consolidate and control.. like an Apple computer which is why you are paying for multiplayer on a 360. They have a wider user base because of their simplicity. In the early days PC gaming was preferred because of its hardware was always ahead of the curve. Nowadays console game is on par with PC hardware. PC gaming community prefers PC gaming for reasons that aren't seen as profitable by gaming publishers: such as open and free multiplayer communities, modular gaming, etc... which such freedoms is why many prefer PC over the slightly more constrictive consoles.

      • ortucis, on 07/26/2008, -1/+3I am still using 6800 GS since the day it was released and can run games like Assassins Creed and Crysis on 'almost' high quality (games like Kane & Lynch I can run with highest with AA enabled). The only performance boost I have given my PC over the years is the addition of a gb ram (totalling 3 GB) and upgrading to XP 64-bit which, btw, has had the greatest speed boost in-games because of dual core support (not to mention I work with 3D apps so using 64-bit apps is a HUGE boost in most cases)..

        When it comes down to console, I am pretty much stuck with the default hardware. Which gets old, and the only solution is "upgrading" to a new console. That's like buying a new PC over and over just cause you were stuck with mostly default components (like Mac) and couldn't just upgrade this and that and boost the speed for years.

        Of course, you can resort to 640x480 0xAA/AF and all details to low, then I guess you'd be right! But being PC, by 5yrs the games will force DX11 requirement and your crappy outdated DX10 will no longer cut it!
        PS2...still playable and some very good games are still being released. Name me a graphic card that was released when the PS2 was released which your motherboard even recognises! LOL.

DirectX 9 at the start were playing off a DirectX 8 card, and so forth. My 7900GS is around 2 years old, and every PC game released next year will support it. Also, if you wait 5 years, you can buy a $100 graphics card to replace your current one to play the latest games. You can get a GPU close to the 360's and PS3's for around $70 now

        For a total of : $929.98 This computer is a top of the line computer which could run any game you can throw at it. This is just a rough rig as i havn't properly check to see if if everything is compatible but this is rig at what you can get for $900 and last your for over 6+ years and is much more powerful than any console out at the moment.

        This for me if i was buying all this would come to £467.77. This is an amazing price for an amazing PC.

        2) Quad is not needed for 99% of the games and 90% of the apps, e7200 is $100 less (with rebate), and does most of the things better (it has more GHz, overclockability)

        3) More than 2gigs of Ram is still an overkill, cheap RAM makes no much difference from expensive, you can find a 2-gig kit for $50 less

        4) Most good motherboards are a waste of money and time if you're not a serious overclocker or a PC enthusiast and for $150 less than you posted would buy you a mobo that would do for 95% of the PC population

        5) Good one

        6) It's OK but I would better like a 7200.11

        To sum it up a decent computer which is not an inch lower for most applications than the one above would cost -not $930- but $530, buy intelligently people, or at least ask those who do know their way they may save you half the cost from your initial PC.....

I have a 8800gt and i have to say it rocks. Also as i said on my reply i did a very quick 5 minute sweep of looking on the net to find good prices for pc parts to show that you can buy a good computer for a low amount of money. Although you are right, i bought an amazing rig for much cheaper than that and it could probably run it max too without a hitch.

My post was indicating the best bang for the buck you can buy right now. By the time quad cores would be useful and 4 gigs of ram would be usable we would already use 32nm processors and DDR3 memory so better save your money for then.....

    UK and US PC Gamer magazines contacted the firm saying "wtf where did you get this information and why havnt we been informed" so nothings offical by any means. UK and US PC Gamer magazine contacted Rockstar instantly about the illedged statement and have yet to hear from them.

    Although i want the title to come to PC and i think it probably will, this is by no means official.

    Also you can't forget about the custom skins for the cars. The possibilities are endless, can't wait.
