So, there seems to be some confusion on both sides of the issue.
Let's try to clarify the situation, and then perhaps we can get somewhere.
PvP is acceptable in all shapes or forms. We have built-in mechanics that allow the player being killed to find a way out of it.. When those mechanics fail or do not function as intended we will step in. Until then we will be as hands off as possible.
Now, we have a lot of players, a lot of servers, and a lot of petitions, as you may know. We do get a lot of petitions on Deathwhisper about "griefing". When do we take action? When it crosses the line. You can camp someone until the next day if you want. More power to you.
What you cannot do is verbally threaten them or use inappropriate language. You cannot use exploits or bugs to kill other players, or for any reason, for that matter. The game is rated M, but that does not mean you can use racial slurs or issue personal attacks.
In this case, the GM was seeing a lot of reports of griefing with regards to SA's guild. He didn't say you couldn't pvp. He made the honest mistake of giving out his personal opinion that maybe keeping a lower profile might be handy in avoiding a negative reputation. Obviously, it was a mistake. If you feel like it, bring all 300 of your friends, enemies, or whatever and beat each other senseless.
It seems that our policies are not clear cut enough, and we will make every effort to clarify them so that there is absolutely no question as to what is appropriate and what is not.

Let me repeat this because you need to understand you will not get help with your issues. Not with the in-game help function and not on the forums unless it's from your fellow players or the one QA guy with the balls to post there. The stuff they post in there Public Forums is what they want you see to see. They have a private forums to sit and laugh about the idiots who actually fall for it. And for a GM to say he is giving "non-official advice" in game is absurd. To the people who complain about ganking on a FFA PvP server need to re-roll PvE, or actually reach the age of 18 and continue playing.

Too bad too many of you live life so seriously to the point where you actually get emotional over a computer game. Maybe if you didn't, you could join in on the lulz too. But, I guess killing pixelated orcs is SRS BSNSS and you are not to be disturbed.

For example, if the post by Raakam in that thread is true (About racism and verbal griefing) you may want to tone that down but stick to killing people en masse in hordes.
I don't really have any problems with you guys, in Eve Online and that you seem fine and most of the time the people who whinge about you are just those hardcore kids who think they're awesome at whatever game it is and subsequently have a fit when they're beaten in some regard.

- Laneid, on 06/02/2008, -0/+2No, the reason why people are being banned is because for those specific threads funcom is deleting them from their forum instead of closing them as they are doing with the rest of the threads. That throws people off, so they open again, and again, and again. Funcom still deletes the threads (well, there's someone deleting them, but no one replying). After a while they just ban the user for 6 months.
It's sad really. AoC forums are closed to all except to AoC players. Funcom could make the best of it addressing it in a mature matter, replying to the posters. Instead they not only delete everything, but they also ban.... They cleary don't have a clue of what Streisand effect is... too bad for them.... I can believe the racial slurs and language stuff about the Goons because they walk that thin line, and many of their clumsy members slip and fall off it. It's easy to tell the difference, especially if you'd encountered their Jihadswarm, as alot of that walked the lined, but a few would go a bit far, making it personal. No MMO company, even CCP, lets stuff like that on their forums though, but giving all your GMs alot of independent lee-way is a HORRIBLE idea.

It's a really serious PvP server and people can't stand to have the Goons on it. It's a shame really when we didn't even do anything yet to get people all worked up!
