- devinjohnson2, on 10/10/2007, -1/+110Far Cry is a "classic" pc game? It's only 3 years old.
- ThinkRad, on 10/10/2007, -4/+75Srsly, stop bitching everyone. A giant company offers up some actually tasty scraps and all you can do is find fault? GTFO. Bunch of lazy, whiny gift-horse-mouth-lookers. I'm getting PoP just to play here at work. It'll compliment my massive library of 8 and 16 bit roms. Hopefully it supports my ancient Thrustmaster gamepad.
- Killerah, on 10/10/2007, -1/+69If you don't want to use FilePlanet then you can go to hell! Gamershell that is!
http://www.gamershell.com/download_20867.shtml - Far Cry
http://www.gamershell.com/download_20868.shtml - Prince of Persia
http://www.gamershell.com/download_20869.shtml - Rayman
http://www.gamershell.com/download_20866.shtml - Ghost Recon
Enjoy. - mpn401, on 10/10/2007, -3/+68That depends on how exactly they are ad supported. Do I just have to view a 10 second video clip before playing it or do i have to install the Super PC Optimizer with Bonus Web Toolbar Plus?
By the way, fileplanet sucks ass. - MasterThief117, on 10/10/2007, -2/+66I was about to say I am not interested unless Far Cry was made free, then I clicked and had to eat my words.
- heavystone, on 10/10/2007, -1/+37Keep in mind Online play is disabled. You need to buy a key if you want to play.

- Killerah, on 10/10/2007, -0/+22Which is OK because the Multiplayer was pretty lame anyway.
- SeBBBe, on 10/10/2007, -1/+22Kudos to Ubisoft for trying alternative distribution forms like this! It's a very good idea.

- mortigon, on 10/10/2007, -9/+29I want to punch IGN in the face... so annoying.
- potterboy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+20Rayman isn't even a year old.
- themastersb, on 10/10/2007, -0/+19You could have just said torrents.
- rabidmonkey1, on 10/10/2007, -1/+16Prince of Persia! Now with ELECTROLYTES!
- omnithought, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14Dugg for gift-horse-mouth-lookers
- spudnic, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12Delete some porn?
No wait, what am I saying?! Watch some porn instead. - shealer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12Um, where'd you get the "paying" bit from? I don't pay, and it's downloading fine for me.
- spudnic, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11Screw that, read the first word of the headline...
- math0ne, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11This is pretty sweet actually, don't listen to the haters. The ads are minimal, and games are free. How can you complain!
- Bootes, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10The ads are shown during loading screens or around the menus. Usually people consider free as, they don't have to spend money, not that a company is making a profit.
- AllenL, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10The ads are this, mcdonalds dollar menuaire some gamer playing and then showing a hamburger at the end. I would say about 8 seconds long, happens during load times (without loading the game in the background) and also sometimes when you access the options menu. I have prince of persia and far cry and that's the kind of ads i get anyway. The ads dont pop up in game, only during the times i stated above. Also banners in the menu screens along with links to ign. An annoying part of the PoP sands of time game is that it minimized my game and went to some ign advertisement, only 2 times though. It was only on the first launch that it did this minimizing thing so i was happy.
- spyrochaete, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12Sands of Time is.
- skyfire1, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10You have to respect them though. At least they don't cling on to the copyright for 10+ years like Sierra.
- Disjunto, on 10/10/2007, -3/+12none of them are really classic
- mattfugitive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+12Is it Christmas or something?!
- merrickx, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10"Well today all four games have shown up on FilePlanet..."
I only saw 3? Or am I just taking crazy pills? - championchap, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Never mind the article, read the ***** description!!
- mockenoff, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Before anyone else says anything about having to subscribe, let me say this: you don't have to. All you need is a free account and you can download from the public servers. It's just that the option to login is minuscule compared to the offer to pay for premium accounts on the page after you select a server.
- Killerah, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Whoever wrote the article must have a hard time with numbers or something, they say "four" games when they only list 3. Even so, free legal full games are always worth a digg, I'm downloading Prince of Persia now!
- dillibob, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7if all games in the future are free and just ad suported i wont mind at all
- xXShadowstormXx, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Bram Cohen.
- sark666, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6I wasn't going to bitch as others have. I think this is a great idea to do with older games. Another means of making revenue off games that probably don't generate much anymore.
But I read here:
http://www.gamershell.com/news/41339.html
"You will need an Ubi.com account and you must live in the U.S. to play the game"
I understand the ubi account but why does this only work if you live in the US?! - chedabob, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Yup, Fileplanet does suck. It's either: Wait in a 45 minute queue to download off a server on the other side of the atlantic, or wait 240 minutes for a UK server.
- lcmatt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6"As always, there is a catch: these three titles are ad-supported, but we were not able to see the ads in-game while using this downloaded client. We’re downloading Prince of Persia and Rayman right now."
Not sure how its ad-supported but I'm downloading it Farcry now. - Killerah, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Nope, it's free for everyone, you just have to have a free fileplanet account.
- Killerah, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Oh, apparently there were four games available, they just didn't list Ghost Recon which you can find here http://www.gamershell.com/news/41338.html
- badken, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6I downloaded and installed the Prince of Persia and haven't seen a single ad yet (5% through the game). Maybe it's my firewall... shrug. For the curious the games use "Double Fusion" in-game ads, which appear to be limited to an add-on to the game itself, not some sort of always-on spywareish software.
- MagicCake, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Sign up for a free account, then?
- Frosty122, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5you don't own the games though.....
- Ac1d, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Yeah when you sign up you need to say you live in the US, otherwise it won't let you install.
- Suruxia, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4"Are you a PC gamer who's never tried Far Cry, Rayman's Raving Rabbids or Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time? Well today all four games have shown up on FilePlanet."
Top 1 reasons not to go to Kotaku ever again. - brasso, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7US only I presume?
- GawtMilk, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4GMail isn't free then?
- chedabob, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Thankyou. I've been sat in that queue for over an hour.
- DMDekoth, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4You don't need to, it isn't Fileplanet exclusive.
- abendigo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4It seems the ads are disabled if the game is run in OpenGl instead of DirectX. I happend upon this by accident when the game kept crashing after about 10 mins in windows. So I copied the instal over to my gnu/linux partion and ran it with cedega with OpenGl and no more ads.
