- jboitnott, on 07/08/2009, -0/+10Hand to Hand combat without actually dying in real life... FTW
- Julie188, on 07/08/2009, -1/+10Yeah ... superheroes are SO MUCH better than elves.
- gnomeh, on 07/09/2009, -1/+9I'm done with WoW; moving to either this or Aion. Hoping one of them can fulfill the role.
I don't expect either to kill WoW.. just hoping one of them is at least entertaining enough. - LiThiuMElectro, on 07/09/2009, -0/+6I cant really decide if I like it or not... I watched all the video on the official website and some part of me want to scream CITY OF HEROES. the environment are really look a like but with more details.
It sure bring change of the WoW type of game play that why I am interested in it. BUT I don't really see any new BIG concept in this other than the Nemesis one. I guess I'll have to try it to find out. - pathy, on 07/09/2009, -0/+4It was hardly an over-reaction. I wasn't ranting or screaming, I just had a little joke.
And you're right, I did play WoW. I've played Everquest too. And Lineage. And City of Heroes. And Star Wars Galaxies. And DDO. And AO. And Warhammer. Hey, know why? I like MMOs. I like playing with different people. I like the type of play they offer.
I played it mostly at night, too. I worked in the day, I went out, I spent time with friends and I played my MMOs as well as the other types of games I enjoy.
I am defensive, I'll admit that - I don't like the insults sent at people for playing an MMO. You're a gamer too, MMO players just play different games. I know people that play Halo, TF2, CS:S for ***** hours on end. They could probably do with a healthy dose of sunshine too. - AndrewDB, on 07/09/2009, -1/+4I play with a bunch of friends from the CO IRC and we have a blast. :)
- AndrewDB, on 07/09/2009, -2/+5It's much, much, much, much better than CoX.
I've been in the closed beta for about a month. I can't go into much detail because we're still in an NDA contract, but I can tell you CoX just feels bland now and I can't return to it. - pathy, on 07/09/2009, -1/+4Hahaha, it's a joke about people who enjoy playing video games.
You're so witty, attractive and most of all funny. I love you. Do you think we could hook up? - MRintheKeys, on 07/09/2009, -0/+3The monthly subsciption fees of rent/mortgage, utilities, and bills just makes it far too expensive.
- Griminald, on 07/09/2009, -1/+3FTA: "Talking to non-player characters with exclamation marks over their heads sends you on quests, several of the "kill X number of Y" and "retrieve objects A, B, and C" variety.
...but the quest structure sends a loud, clear message: The World of Warcraft way is the way when it comes to questing"
And it's one of the areas of WoW and many other recently-released MMOs that piss off gamers looking for something more. Nothing screams "this feels like a stupid grind" quite like a boring quest system. I don't care how different the combat is; it's going to get old pretty fast without something else to keep me enthralled, and generic quests don't cut it. - Darksoul, on 07/12/2009, -0/+2@danwallace
"Looks like fun, but is this going to be more of the same "pay to play" *****? I refuse to play those games. There's nothing enticing enough about them to warrant me having to pay a monthly fee."
You said that down below so yes it was a shot at people who play mmo's, If you have never played an mmo or don't enjoy it then why are you even here and talking about them. You have never apaerently played COH or COV everybody likes different things so because they do not play mmo's like you don't makes us all a bunch of shut in's that are needing a "healthy dose of sunshine"?. I am not an avid mmo player the only mmo's I have played are recently age of conan and before I played COV, I play alot of other non mmo games more.
You called pathy a typical defensive over-reacting WoW geek when he/she never even told you what games he/she was into. Over reacting much?. Pot calling kettle black much?. - LiThiuMElectro, on 07/10/2009, -0/+2thanks for the constructive reply ill give it a look then :)
- rilus, on 07/09/2009, -0/+2I agree with AndrewDB. The game is fun, fast, and unique in several ways. I can see how some people like GalacticCmdr wouldn't like the controls as it's much faster than most other MMOs as far as what you have to do during a fight. Since there's no set classes or roles, you pretty much have to be your own tank, healer, and DPS and that may cause some confusion and/or frustration to some people.
- ericrous, on 07/09/2009, -0/+1Try playing City of Heroes on a Xbox 360 and you'll realize why Champions Online is so much better for a lot of us.
- Nintendesert, on 07/09/2009, -1/+2Gameguard is a deal breaker for me.
- GalacticCmdr, on 07/09/2009, -3/+4Really? I have been in the beta and I get the opposite feeling. I have been a Champions RPGer for two decades so I really wanted to like this. However, it is the controls that really kill it for me. I could get used to the artwork, even though it is not my cup of tea.
The Character Creation system is far superior and is the real standout.
But I just cannot seem to find enjoyment in it. - Darksoul, on 07/12/2009, -0/+1@rotorbladessmoke
Dude you are so wrong its not even funny this game has changed alot and I mean alot of problems from COH&COV which is good. The custom framework part of the game alone would be enough to change from coh or cov to champions online. You really need to go and read up on Champions Online more because its obvious you have no idea what you are talking about. - Xzelick, on 07/09/2009, -0/+1I don't know where this guy got his information, World of Warcraft did not fix any "middling endgame experiences" when it came out. There was nothing to do when you hit max level actually, and for years prior to WoW's release Everquest 1 was running the "alternate advancement" experience points which basically allow you to level forever. It is still a superior system to any other MMORPGs.
- Darksoul, on 07/12/2009, -0/+1@GalacticCmdr
Then you are obviously going to be more biased as you are comparing the game to something that's a pen and paper rpg game. Something you build up with your own imagination will never be the same as something created by somebody else its just the way it works. - rotorbladesmoke, on 07/09/2009, -2/+2I'll take City of Heroes any day. Besides, the one thing that they didn't have, Power Customization, is apparently coming to us free by the end of the year.
So my only talking point on switching is gone now, because I can shoot green fire. Woot. - Valyn, on 07/10/2009, -1/+1Yea its a super hero mmo, so it must be the exact same. Just like WoW is the exact same as other fantasy MMO's - thats why they all made the same amount of money as WoW.
- danwallace, on 07/09/2009, -5/+3Looks like fun, but is this going to be more of the same "pay to play" *****? I refuse to play those games. There's nothing enticing enough about them to warrant me having to pay a monthly fee.
- danwallace, on 07/09/2009, -3/+1It had nothing to do with people who enjoy playing video games. I'm an avid gamer myself, or I wouldn't even be here. I just think people who play WoW and other pay-to-play MMORPG's are suckers and addicts and, from the way gnomeh is talking about it, I'm willing to bet he could use a healthy dose of sunshine.
Way to be the typical defensive over-reacting WoW geek though, pathy. Good on ya. - danwallace, on 07/09/2009, -3/+1How about moving to "real life"?
- jp2535, on 07/09/2009, -12/+1I would watch watch a woman wax.......
