- josho, on 03/18/2009, -3/+31what the hell is this article? there's like, one paragraph. there's an interstitial ad before you hit the content, there's a huge over-all-the-content ad when you get there, then the whole page is littered with ads. for a sentence or two? seriously? buried as COMPLETE ASS.
- ligyron, on 03/18/2009, -2/+28Mirror:
Epic to show off improved version of Unreal Engine 3 at GDC. Stay tuned for more news at GDC. - inactive, on 03/17/2009, -4/+30Epic always makes the best use of the Unreal Engine since they are the developers. It takes other developers 2 to 3 years to get to the same level of quality that Epic creates.
- CraigCarlyle, on 03/17/2009, -1/+20That can easily be blamed on the lack of documentation...
Even the UDN doesn't cut it. - artofwot, on 03/17/2009, -4/+21Now with 1000% more bloom!
- Wootstapler, on 03/18/2009, -2/+17Fix Gears of War 2
- zoodoo12, on 03/18/2009, -2/+13more ***** my computer can't run
- inactive, on 03/18/2009, -2/+12"looks"
You realize the article had no pictures right? - Zeleniak, on 03/17/2009, -1/+8This could be... good point.
- bongwater29, on 03/18/2009, -0/+6I think you need Adblock
- daywalker2676, on 03/18/2009, -1/+6Adblock plus
- gerrylazlo, on 03/18/2009, -2/+7UT3 was a great step up in graphics but wasn't as much fun as 1 or 2. IMO.
- MisterNipples, on 03/18/2009, -1/+6My frakkin' eyes! The ads have made me BLIND!
That was the worst pain I ever endured for 2 sentences. - rdyup, on 03/17/2009, -1/+5cool, can't wait to see how developers utilize it
- mynameistux, on 03/18/2009, -0/+4I still love the source engine, always will.
- RiverBelow, on 03/18/2009, -0/+4So all three of them?
- louiebaur, on 03/17/2009, -3/+6Darnit commented on the wrong post...sorry about that!!
- TimTaykalo, on 03/17/2009, -1/+4Spot on!
- LilRabbitFooFoo, on 03/18/2009, -0/+3I'm sure they weep for the handful of shareware OS users who were too cheap to spend $100 on a Windows license.
- Zeleniak, on 03/17/2009, -0/+2good to know
- supertom, on 03/18/2009, -0/+2Summary of the article:
Epic: "We have improved lighting"
Consumer: "Cool" - inactive, on 03/19/2009, -0/+2Is it worth buying UT3 for PS3? It's like 20 bucks, but all of the negative press it's received has kept me away. Are there just bots in the PS3 servers? The press for UT3(ps3) is as bad as the orange box (ps3), unfortunatley...
- AzureRise, on 03/19/2009, -0/+2Fix Gears one on PC. Horribly optimized and no way to backup your saves. Have People Can Fly release another patch!
- AzureRise, on 03/19/2009, -0/+2The new update is out already and the free expansion comes out tomorrow. For 20 bucks it's definitely worth it and there are a fair amount of people online, hopefully more when the expansion comes out tomorrow. Having played the new content on the PC I can say it's a blast.
- Lunarbunny, on 03/18/2009, -0/+2I remember the first time I tried to find the help files for UnrealEd 2.0...
- Zeleniak, on 03/18/2009, -2/+4I freaking love playing UT3 Online! It's like crack at times!
- TimTaykalo, on 03/18/2009, -0/+2All be damned it made it!
- MacSuxWindozSux, on 03/18/2009, -0/+2I find the levels smaller. Anywhere where vehicles can be used, there's not much area to drive around.
- ReeseSV, on 03/18/2009, -2/+4Yeah, I hate the lots-of-polygons style, especially if they also start throwing in ***** of PIXELS, ugh!
- NuclearFriend, on 03/18/2009, -0/+2Of course not, lightning tech has truly fallen behind in recent times and finally is going to get the attention it so truly deserves.
- michaelrsa, on 03/18/2009, -1/+2Not quite on topic, but agreed. I was looking forward to that game so long, I buy it and find out they took out player matches. Without those I stopped playing GoW2 within a month.
- Amythystnights, on 03/17/2009, -1/+2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Jdshald, on 03/18/2009, -0/+1You could say that also about valve and the source engine.
- rherlitz, on 03/18/2009, -0/+1Looking forward to seeing all future UE3 based games taking place in fierce thunderstorms *s*
- ligyron, on 03/18/2009, -3/+4Yes, quite the imagination...
- TimTaykalo, on 03/17/2009, -2/+3This engine makes some of the best games ever! Can't wait to see what this updated version does!
- supertom, on 03/18/2009, -0/+1Too many Digg tabs open louie? Too much Digging?
- inactive, on 03/19/2009, -0/+1OT: but is the Orange Box worth picking up as well? TF2 on the PS3 would be amazing, but over on the sony(err ea?) boards people seem pretty pissed.
- bixel, on 03/19/2009, -0/+1Yeh, lighting improvements would be great, there was this weird puffy softness about the textures and the lighting that made everything look like it was an inflated balloon, hard to describe until you play the game and you will know what I mean.
It is a great engine tho. One of the easiest ever to put custom content in and get it working in minutes. - mynameistux, on 03/20/2009, -0/+1true, but, does it play half life 2
I think not
lol unreal 3 is pretty ***** awesome. - RiverBelow, on 03/18/2009, -0/+1This is needed - I hope the do something about the plastic-wrap art-style that gets associated with developers who are less experienced with the engine. While Epic utilizes it fantastically with Gears of War (and to a lesser degree with unreal 3), almost every other game looks terrible with this stereotypical lots-of-polygons style that takes away from the art direction.
- bixel, on 03/19/2009, -0/+1Source engine is great, and I think Valve has a better system to optimize their maps for better fps and network play. However getting custom content into the editor is a longer process, and its a very old engine still relying almost exclusively on brushes instead of meshes. The Hammer is also very old and clunky, UT3 simply has the most magnificent Material Editor out there and excellent scripting capabilities.
- dfresh89, on 03/19/2009, -0/+0Maybe they'll add this as a patch for Gears of War 2 and improve the graphics even more.
Maybe this is an early stage to building the Unreal 4 Engine perhaps. - weeman43302, on 03/18/2009, -1/+1Yea I played it over the weekend. It was awesome. But my girlfriend kicked my ass at it. (I don't play fighting games very much)
- Jyuu, on 03/18/2009, -1/+1No.
The reason why MK vs DC runs at 60fps is because it looks like *****.
The Unreal Engine 3 has always been capable of running at 60fps if the hardware enabled it, which means: PC. - Zeleniak, on 03/17/2009, -2/+2Indeed! Play the new Mortal Kombat vs DC game yet. It freaking rocks!
- TimTaykalo, on 03/17/2009, -2/+2Not yet though I hear it is a really good game!
- Amythystnights, on 03/17/2009, -2/+2Husband plays it all the time.... unlucky forme
