This is the perfect balance of;
the vehicles from BF2 (but without the whoring, they are fragile, but the tank doesn't break driving over a stone)
the objective based combat of the Unreal Tournament Assault game
the unlocks of Enemy Territory
and the fast paced Quake style personal combat.
Excellent game.
The asymmetric nature of the classes and the teams...
the strogg medic is wildly different from the human GDF medic in deployables (porta spawn for strogg, crate and shock paddles for the GDF),
weapons are radically different between GDF and Strogg,
vehicles are different (mecha versus tank, jet pac versus quad bike),
strogg can swap their ammo with their health and vice versa,
...all leading to a different sort of combat than that found in BF2 where each team just has different pajamas and the same basic guns (with tweaks).
Could do with the effortless squad creation and use of BF2, and voice, but apart form that it is excellent, and work wonderfully even on a 9800 Pro or a 7300GT (backed by a Core 2 Duo though!) - darcmage, on 10/10/2007, -1/+17Mirrors:

Grrrr! - Ghoztt, on 10/10/2007, -20/+29Played it. Didn't like it. Played it some more. Still didn't like it. Kept on playing it. Let's see... Assault Kit... Engineer Kit... Sniper Kit... Scout Kit... haven't I been here before? Crappy underpowered vehicles... insanely over-powered orbital bombardments... This is just from my experience: But this game SUCKS. Same old gameplay. Different graphics. No revolutionary gameplay and little to no innovative features to this game. It' just a poor cross between games I've already played in the last 5 years. It's like this could be a Mod for UT2K4/BF1942.... I'm very disappointed. :(
- Tr33fiddy, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10I'm a BF2 player and I can tell you I do NOT think this is a fantastic game.
Utter ***** would be a more accurate descriptor. - aldenhg, on 10/16/2007, -0/+8No Linux Client beta? They're still doing a Linux port, right?
- GrizzlyWG, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8This game isn't even remotely close to BF2 in gameplay. Doesn't even deserve a comparison.
- sgtpppr, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Uhoh, sandy vagina Quake player warning! It's Enemy Territory in the Quake universe. It's not Quake 5.
- scabbers, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10Yikes. The orbital bombardment sounds REALLY FAMILIAR... ET was pretty much ruined by "OMG XP SAVE ON THIS SERVAR" and idiots with level 4 field ops just spam spam spamming the hell out of the enemy with airstrikes and shells.
- Protoss, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7...So Bioshock ruined your framerates on Quake Wars? Weird...
- vladin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Not if you're on Comcast.
- TheNik, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6I was about to post the delicious 700kb/s Yahoo mirror. :P
Thanks :) - DeadlySin, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8Just a warning: DO NOT PLAY THIS GAME IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A BATTLEFIELD CLONE. Having played the beta, I can say this from experience
The only resemblance this game may have to the battlefield series are the kits. Other than that, it's an entirely different game. The maps completely blow away those of BF, however. They are vast, open, and have incredible landscapes (thing sprawling mountains). The game speed is fast, and the sprinting is unlimited (can't shoot and sprint at the same time). The vehicles, although feeling somewhat "plasticy" are still great fun to ride.
The maps are based on objectives, which either the Strogg or GDF must complete while the other defends. This is a nice change from just capping flags. Although many of the opposing classes are alike, the GDF Medic and Strogg Technician have some key differences. The Technician can revive fallen teammates as usual, but it takes some time (~5 seconds). Additionally, it can create spawnhosts from fallen enemies. Once a Strogg claims this host, they can spawn on it - right into the action - the next time they die (instead of respawning back at the base). Consequently, the GDF Medic can destroy these spawnhosts with a quick ...buzz?... from his defibrilators. As usual, they can also revive with their defibrilators instantly unlike the Strogg.
One of the best parts of this game is that you can assume the identity of a fallen enemy. Once you have done so, you will look identical in appearance and have the ability to infiltrate the enemy lines and back-stab (literally) your foes. There are ways to identify an intruder of course, but I'll let you figure it out =D
All in all, this game is worth a try. It's a nice change from Battlefield, even though some may not appreciate it. - Trebis, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8Played this game a ton at QuakeCon this year, and I gotta say, the game gets BETTER and BETTER the more I played it.
At first it's a bit overwhelming, and I was tempted to call the game 'bad' before I had a chance to see how unique and fun it was. The variety of the classes makes the game feel completely new every time you switch classes.
Also, my friends and I had a team together for the tournaments there at QuakeCon, and the experience of playing this game and using Ventrilo to communicate makes it one of the BEST gaming experiences I've ever had. Getting to coordinate attacks on the enemy across mics is just ridiculously fun. Bottom line. - chedabob, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5ET was a lot more balanced though. Valley felt far too linear, and the Strogg could annihilate the GDF just by putting an AV and AP turret outside the tunnel.
Wolfenstein:ET was a fantastic game, and it's a shame that Quake Wars isn't. - hartley, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7Anyone test this in Wine yet?
- Tr33fiddy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6to be fair, I don't know a single person who doesn't rate BF2 - bugs and all - above '42, 'nam or 2142. either way, I won't be touching QW again other than to remove it from my hard drive.
- jgrommersch, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I can confirm the File Front one works.
- dugbay, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I have always thought that ET was better then BF. I find going from flag to flag is a little redundant. What I like about ET is the objectives, It actually feels like a real battle. I played ET long before I played BF, and I was disappointed in BF because i was expecting ET. I think people will be disappointed when they play ET:QW wanting it to be BF, because its not.....
- Sink41, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Ummm... just so you know the torrent is from idsoftware.com (look at the url) so if you can't trust the torrent i wouldn't bother installing the demo.
- Namco, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7The trolls posting at the Bioshock forums are alarmist idiots, including you. It's not spyware because it's not collecting your sensitive personal information. It's not a trojan because it does not download and install viruses/software. And finally, it's not a rootkit just because rootkit revealer flags a couple null bytes in a registry entry. If you think it's malicious, then go learn how your ***** computer works. I'm sick of people like you who think the sony fiasco gives you license to bitch about every copy protection you hear about. SecuRom, Starforce, Safedisc, and Laserlock have been around awhile and unfortunately aren't going anywhere. Guys like you are so elite that you can bittorrent and mount all the latest games, but the one that has SecuRom on it, you throw your hands up and run for the hills. LOL
- ACrazyGerman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I have all that but the Processor I have just 2.0
- scabbers, on 11/02/2007, -0/+5Bioshock - so graphically advanced it even makes OTHER nearby games run choppy.
- sinatosk, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4They are coming out with a Linux client later so I would wait for that :p... won't be long I guess.. they stated they are already testing it and it looks good.... but thats what they said ( not exact words )
- Megatog615, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Anyone know when a Linux demo is coming out?
- ortucis, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6TO ALL THE RETARDS TRYING TO COMPARE IT WITH BATTLEFIELD.... DON'T.
This game isn't supposed to be BF clone so please spare us your 'ratings' and how 'old-gen' the graphics and physics look comments. No one cares if you don't even understand that this game has nothing to do with the gameplay in BF. - dpjames, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4just grab it from yahoo : http://videogames.yahoo.com/pc/enemy-territory-quake-wars/file-529579
- grizzlypuma, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5for the makron
- Ravenhaft, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Just so everyone knows - if you run an ATI video card, you need to upgrade to the released today 6.9 from http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html or it'll just error out.
- Namco, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4You obviously don't download much. If it was a phony file, there wouldn't be 1000 people seeding it.
- artofwar420, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4My graphics card will cry tonight.
- wilsonthecat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3If you have a Nvidia Geforce, and use dual monitors (this might be the same for ATI) - **Turn off the Dual Monitors**! Your FPS will increased dramatically, back to what is intended. I've got an 8800 and wondered why the game was playing at around 5-10fps. On a single monitor only it's nice and smooth now.
- 8-bit, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Thanks for the dam linux server crap download. How bout letting us play the game for once instead of hosting matches! So sick of that *****.
- junaru, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3nevermind
- Urusai, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5BF2 isn't so hot compared to BF:1942 or BF:Vietnam. I can only imagine the fiasco BF2:2492 or whatever the hell the new one is called might be.
- meez, on 10/10/2007, -6/+9If you're a battlefield player maybe.
I've played Wolfenstien/ET competitively on a high level for over 3 years, and I can safely confirm that, in fact, this game is not fantastic. - BugMeNot2, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I've been playing since beta 1 and I like it so far. It's not holy-*****-greatest-game-ever, but nor is it bad. If I were to rate my first impressions with the demo, I'd give it a 7.5 out of 10 or so. The gameplay is pretty decent, but I wish they would have made the level design less linear. At the moment, it's basically complete this objective, go to this objective, do that objective, win the game. Maybe the other maps will be better. I'll get this game once it drops to $20 or $30.
- michaelbolton, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4no, you can't have an OSX version. NOT YOURS
- ACrazyGerman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Game runs fine on low but that doesn't make the game fun it sucks ass.
- Namco, on 10/10/2007, -3/+6Not only that, but I can also confirm that Bioshock demo didn't have spyware/trojans/rootkits.
- scabbers, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2It seems to be VERY gentle on the graphics card.
