Crysis - 5,000 Car Explosion watch!

- Archeologist, on 05/28/2008, -4/+169I think my computer steamed a little while watching that video.
- megamod, on 05/29/2008, -8/+2imagine if there were 5000 cars blowing up at once. it would be a new internet trojan.
- Hobbes24, on 05/29/2008, -1/+8i think i need to change my pants after watching that video.
- xenosteel, on 05/29/2008, -1/+4Don't, that would be more fun. Come back in an hour and tell us the results.
- Gravey9, on 05/29/2008, -1/+9who is he FatLoser?

- gameist, on 05/28/2008, -17/+87Damn, i wonder what kind of system he has. You probably need a monster to run that smoothly
- Kingoftherings, on 05/28/2008, -2/+238This video is kinda old, I've seen it before.
What they do for these mass physics videos is they have Crysis take a screenshot of every frame, because they get less than 1fps, and they take all the frames and play it back at 30fps. Thats why none of the mass physics videos of Crysis have any sound.- Harbinger67, on 05/29/2008, -1/+30Brilliant!
/guiness guy - h0merg0mez, on 05/29/2008, -0/+13No sound, except for the generic modern rock soundtrack, which is a must.
- Yodwinder, on 05/29/2008, -2/+2Actually, Alice In Chains was, in my opinion, one of the better alt./grunge bands. Until Mr. Staley had to do a speedball and off himself.
So, definitely not just generic.
- Yodwinder, on 05/29/2008, -2/+2Actually, Alice In Chains was, in my opinion, one of the better alt./grunge bands. Until Mr. Staley had to do a speedball and off himself.
- skoda, on 05/29/2008, -0/+9I accept that you're right about the way these videos are made but i'm curious as to how they can look around at the scene whilst it's going on, do they sit through the whole thing at 1fps?
- 000dom000, on 05/29/2008, -0/+4Yep they do, I have done it, but even at 1fps my GPU overheated. You're just left with a loada screenshots.
- strangewill, on 05/29/2008, -0/+2Is the Crysis engine just programmed badly? Or do they hack it? Regardless of FPS rate it should be calculating physics on a system time passed clock, not on a frame-by-frame basis... so once you recompiled everything frame by frame, it would be playing in fast forward.
- Kingoftherings, on 05/29/2008, -0/+1There is a code you have to put into the console to get it frame by frame, I can't remember what it is though.
But you're right, without it you can look around freely and smoothly but the falling objects would be really slow.
- Kingoftherings, on 05/29/2008, -0/+1There is a code you have to put into the console to get it frame by frame, I can't remember what it is though.
- Harbinger67, on 05/29/2008, -1/+30Brilliant!
- DeskFlyer, on 05/29/2008, -2/+38He borrowed some time on Blue Gene just to make that video.
- NikoKun, on 05/29/2008, -0/+64Even though it's not done in real time, I'm still amazed that Crysis's engine can do that...
Usually in a game, 1 car = 1 boring explosion, multiple cars = multiple seperate boring explosions.
But with Crysis, the sum of the explosions seems to add up in a much more elaborate single display of pyrotechnics. Fire, shrapnel, smoke, it's all so realistic!
The Crysis engine is just awesome! Makes me wanna try loading the game back up, and combining a few explosive barrels.- Skitals, on 05/29/2008, -34/+3If you've ever sent a warthog flying over the entire map with a small pile of grenades, you know Halo:CE has a similar compound-explosion effect :)
- Myonosken, on 05/29/2008, -1/+23WHAT?!
Did you just compare the explosions of Crysis (a game which has only survived because its so ***** pretty) to Halo 1!?
- Myonosken, on 05/29/2008, -1/+23WHAT?!

- NikoK, on 05/29/2008, -21/+3Insert obligatory Crysis joke here.
- Shabow, on 05/29/2008, -23/+84Running Crysis is like dividing by 0.
It doesn't work.- gfxlonghorn, on 05/29/2008, -3/+36No it definitely works, it just approaches infinity, which causes your computer to internally combust.
- l0k0, on 05/29/2008, -4/+30http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jAeVSXZViQI&fmt=18
Here's a video of Crysis running with the Very High tweaks with a very moderate machine @1280x1024.
Notice he is using an x2 4400, a Nforce 4 motherboard, 2 gig of DDR RAM, Creative Audigy, and an 8800 GTS. This is by no means a NASA machine or some Alienware rig. It includes many parts that are over two years old, and runs the game without missing a beat, despite the FRAPS overhead. Oddly, my comp does roughly the same just fine at 1680x1050, but since you said "it doesn't work" it must be true... - Dracusis, on 05/29/2008, -3/+10Yeah, but I like to actually play my games, not watch as they slide by at a few frames a second.
I have an E6600 at 3.4Ghz and an 8800GTX and I still can't play crysis at over 40fps at native res without making it look like someone vomited all over the screen. If you'd kept your system more or less up-to-date the days of being distracted by stuttering games were long past until Crysis arrived. It was meant to be this work of engineering brilliance but in reality, they just reached too far. people didn't buy the game because of the high performance requirements and they blame piracy? Crytek are fools, they went after the high end and cried when they realised how small it was. They deserved everything they got with this game, if they survive to make another then mapybe they'll make one that's playable by industry standards on a mid-range machine this time.
And seriosuly, who has an 8800 and doesn't have a decent widescreen monitor?- newsound6, on 05/29/2008, -5/+4I pirated the game and thought "this is ***** awesome". Bought a machine to play it and went and bought a legit copy to play online........and was completely disapointed. They can't blame piracy when the #1 reason not to pirate - online play - is completely useless in the game. I tried to go to the main site to check for fixes, only to find they don't really have a main site. They point you to cymod, where everyone there is also bitching they can't get online.
Everyone seems to be waiting for the next patch due out tomorrow, yesterday. Crytek needs to get multiplayer working now! Once thats up and word gets out, along with more people getting up to date systems, they should see a bump in sales.- Dracusis, on 05/30/2008, -0/+2The #1 reason not to pirate is because it's illegal you ***** tard.
Pirating games hurting our industry. You don't steal a car because you never intend to drive it on a free way, you shouldn't do the same thing with a video game.
If you can't afford it, be man enough to go without. I said Crytek were off-base about their piracy claims, and I stand by that remark because I think word-of-mouth about the extreme requirements did way more damage to Crysis than anything else, but I do acknowledge that piracy is a huge problem, and piracy of Crysis may be been a result of the huge preformance requirements, but none of that makes it right. Anyone who condones it for ~any~ reason whatsoever is a wanker, it's wrong, and it's killing the PC gaming industry.
The only time cracking a game is ~ok~ is if you already own it and want to remove some kind of DRM. If a game has DRM that you don't like, again, be a man and go without and write a letter telling them why you're not buying. Pirating a game in those circumstances sends the wrong message to the developers, and will only make things worse in the long run.
- Dracusis, on 05/30/2008, -0/+2The #1 reason not to pirate is because it's illegal you ***** tard.
- Phil1ip123, on 05/30/2008, -0/+1And what's your screen's native res? In the video that l0k0 posted it clearly shows someone with two year old hardware playing the game maxed at 1280x1024 and it doesn't look like garbage - it's a bit slow in the vid but as he mentions it's because of Fraps recording it; he usually gets about 25-30fps, which is completely acceptable for the hardware he's running it on.
Also, in my rig I have an E6850, 2GB PC2-6400, 8800 GTX and I get about 30-35 fps average running the game maxed at 1440x900, so it's definitely possible to run it smoothly provided you aren't trying to play at a ridiculous res.
- newsound6, on 05/29/2008, -5/+4I pirated the game and thought "this is ***** awesome". Bought a machine to play it and went and bought a legit copy to play online........and was completely disapointed. - fuzzynyanko, on 05/29/2008, -5/+1Actually, 1 / 0 = infinite. Does that make my mid-range PC infinitely powerful compared to the PS3?
- DaHuuuuuudge, on 05/29/2008, -2/+61/0 does not equal infinity.
- Dracusis, on 05/30/2008, -0/+1That depends on who you ask, or the context of the application of the math, or the math itself...

- TheGooseyOne, on 05/29/2008, -5/+10Not as good as those originals with the huge block man who gets flown into by a block plane.
But impressive. - Bureau9, on 05/29/2008, -12/+85my graphics card had a meltdown just processing the flash video...
- br0wnstar, on 05/29/2008, -28/+39It's hypnotic.
But why does everyone think ***** metal music is perfect for things like this? It just makes me want to perform a self-lobotomy.- YoctoYotta, on 05/29/2008, -14/+9People that spend their time making videos of video games and posting them on the internet are ***** idiots, that's why.
/ducks- Vironex, on 05/29/2008, -1/+1I agree.
[Digg me down like it means something.]
- Vironex, on 05/29/2008, -1/+1I agree.
- jaydoj, on 05/29/2008, -11/+37That was Alice in Chains, and in my opinion, there's not one ***** thing about them.
- chickengearge, on 05/29/2008, -17/+6trust me, there is
- zephc, on 05/29/2008, -2/+16one ***** thing about AIC: Lane Staley is dead :(

- down4twenty, on 05/29/2008, -8/+12***** metal music? i guess you already went ahead with that self lobotomy huh?
- jaydoj, on 05/29/2008, -1/+3I think he used a soup spoon.
- shanesemler, on 05/29/2008, -3/+8What is better? Are you a fan of fruity J-Pop? Btw, that's off of Alice In Chains first and best album.
- jaydoj, on 05/29/2008, -1/+2Love that album.
- jdevine420, on 05/29/2008, -3/+11LOL @ AIC being ***** metal music
- orlyfactor, on 05/29/2008, -2/+3haha - had it on mute :D
- rowlodge, on 05/29/2008, -0/+1yeah, something more familiar would help that video, not that its bad.

- bfrank72, on 05/29/2008, -4/+25Wait. His computer didn't explode?
- l0k0, on 05/29/2008, -1/+27This isn't in real time. Read "KingoftheRings" comment nested under Gameist's comment for a simple explanation.
- HotDogBun, on 05/29/2008, -4/+11That didn't really look like five thousand of anything... but cool nonetheless
- mreddie, on 05/29/2008, -12/+36It's not metal.. It's Alice in Chains. Very Grunge for you kids out there.
- franklymister, on 05/29/2008, -11/+2Alice in Chains is metal. Just because they can't figure out how to put their makeup on doesn't change what they sound like.
- ZeroOrDie, on 05/29/2008, -2/+1I guess Nirvana is metal too?
/sarcasm- franklymister, on 05/29/2008, -4/+3Alice in Chains doesn't sound anything like Nirvana.
The only reason anyone mistakenly associates them with grunge is that they were in Seattle while it was going on, and they got swept up in the hype.
- franklymister, on 05/29/2008, -4/+3Alice in Chains doesn't sound anything like Nirvana.
- Kronk42583, on 05/29/2008, -0/+1i guess you never knew that the took the name alice in chains because they started out doing shows in drag in the 80s, so they did wear makeup. and while they were considered one of the big 4 grunge bands of nirvana, pearl jam, soundgarden, and alice in chains, their influences and sound were decidedly more like metal than alternative rock. anyways, they are totally sweet, they just sound crappy on my laptop speakers.
- ZeroOrDie, on 05/29/2008, -2/+1I guess Nirvana is metal too?
- Vinperez, on 05/29/2008, -2/+1Wow mreddie, don't sport trends on digg please, thank you.
- franklymister, on 05/29/2008, -3/+11From Wikipedia:
"Following the demise of his band Sleeze in 1986, vocalist Layne Staley formed Alice N' Chainz, a band which he said "dressed in drag and played speed metal".[1] The new band performed around the Seattle area playing Slayer and Armored Saint covers.
In early 1991, Alice in Chains landed the opening slot for the Clash of the Titans tour with Anthrax, Megadeth, and Slayer, exposing the band to a wide metal audience."
Sounds like metal to me...
Not that there's anything wrong with that. - gnarkill726, on 05/29/2008, -5/+3Again, they are most certainly *NOT* metal. They are rock at best. Absolutely nothing metal about them. So piss off. Just because they toured with a bunch of metal bands doesn't mean anything. I've seen plenty of non-metal bands touring with Slayer, Mastodon, etc.
- khyberkitsune, on 05/29/2008, -1/+2So, Let's see. the song "Them Bones' Isn't metal? Sounds like most other metal out there to me. Last I checked there were plenty of metal bands that did soft songs, like Megadeth's A Tout Le Monde.
You're just an idiot who doesn't know what he's talking about.
- khyberkitsune, on 05/29/2008, -1/+2So, Let's see. the song "Them Bones' Isn't metal? Sounds like most other metal out there to me. Last I checked there were plenty of metal bands that did soft songs, like Megadeth's A Tout Le Monde.

- lilhurt38, on 05/29/2008, -0/+2AIC in a video where everything is blowing up is awesome.
- ileftfark, on 05/29/2008, -0/+2WTF? Why are we citing Wikipedia when talking about a very popular band of just a few years ago???
- franklymister, on 05/29/2008, -11/+2Alice in Chains is metal. Just because they can't figure out how to put their makeup on doesn't change what they sound like.
- mindsnare, on 05/29/2008, -2/+39Are these videos done by rendering at like 1 frame a second and then sped up in the video? Or can the engine genuinely do this on a good machine?
- AttackingHobo, on 05/29/2008, -0/+4That was one frame a second.
But I can stack about 50 cars up and still get decent fps.
- AttackingHobo, on 05/29/2008, -0/+4That was one frame a second.

He now haunts digg.com with duplicate stories, bad spelling and grammar in titles and news from last year.
