- acu8509, on 12/25/2007, -0/+62This is better than the alarm clock i got for Christmas!
I really hope they release it within the next year. - spaceman84, on 12/25/2007, -1/+54Your brain generally doesn't render low polycount models and blurry textures.
- syphern, on 12/25/2007, -0/+48I have a bad feeling about this mod! It looks so damn good that Valve might just buy them out and release the mod for a price!
- Carsonauto, on 12/25/2007, -0/+48Shame really, these guys deserve the money. I would have no problems with buying this.
- WolverineBlue, on 12/25/2007, -0/+44I had a dream without anti-aliasing once.
- MrEdwardo, on 12/25/2007, -1/+43Is it weird that the updated mod screens are closer to the memories of the game in my head than the originals?
I guess that's imagination for you. - inactive, on 12/25/2007, -2/+41this mod is gunna be big, bigger than steve jobs collection of black shirts, and jeans
- noobeffect, on 12/25/2007, -1/+39You can vote for the best looking upcoming mods aside from the ones that have already been released.
- Rob223, on 12/25/2007, -1/+34Valve just need to flat-out hire these guys. Seriously. They hired the entire portal team after narbacular drop, I could see them doing this.
- Tophillious, on 12/25/2007, -0/+23I'd like to see en exploding microwave casserole with the new graphics :D
- jjremy, on 12/25/2007, -3/+25This is the first I've heard of this mod. I'm excited! It looks great.
- inactive, on 12/25/2007, -1/+21This mod looks freaking insane, look at the pictures of the zombies. Hell they even look better than valves!!!!
http://www.blackmesasource.com/media/zombie_beauty ... - Bulk70, on 12/26/2007, -0/+19if you struggle to run HL1, then Im amazed you can play any games at all
- inactive, on 12/26/2007, -1/+19I can finally make things right with Dr. Magnusson by going back and NOT blowing up the microwave casserole!
- ScrumFritter, on 12/25/2007, -0/+17Yes, it's EXACTLY like that.
- scubasteve377, on 12/25/2007, -0/+15I hope they take this opportunity to add more character models instead of having the same three scientists/security guards. It would make things flow better into the HL2 story. You know, instead of meeting up with that scientist, who I distinctly remember bludgeoning to death in Black Mesa for talking too much, and having him suddenly be a central character in the sequel.
- ruyz, on 12/25/2007, -1/+14ahh, half life. when i remember growing up, this was a huge part of it. pure emotion and yea, id pay for it too.
- KaiUno, on 12/25/2007, -1/+14One, two, jaggies coming for you!
- kmand, on 12/25/2007, -0/+12They did say they won't allow this to happen.
- oyourmom, on 12/25/2007, -0/+12I don't know, that's a lot of black shirts and jeans.
- Bulk70, on 12/26/2007, -0/+12I'd pay money for it too.. not a huge amount.. but id pay the price of an expansion pack.
- denzilbms, on 12/26/2007, -0/+8Half-Life: Source is a direct port (by VALVe Software Ltd) of the original Half-Life game on to the Half-Life 2 (Source) engine. It uses the original Half-Life graphics (models, maps, et cetera) on the new engine, these were not updated to match the standard that Half-Life 2 set.
At Black Mesa, we are recreating the original Half-Life game, again on the Source engine. But we are focusing on delivering a modern recreation rather than a direct graphics port that Half-Life: Source offered.
In summary, Black Mesa is a full recreation by an unofficial mod team, whereas Half-Life: Source was a direct graphics port to the new Source engine, from its predecessor.
Jim - Stormseeker, on 12/26/2007, -0/+8We're keeping those under wraps for the time being.
- chris9902, on 12/25/2007, -18/+25"Mod of the Year on the ModDB website! If you want to vote for us"
ummm, no. Don't you need to release something first? - Stormseeker, on 12/26/2007, -0/+7http://www.blackmesasource.com/
If you check the devblog, theres something in there we're hiding for a little while :P - MioTheGreat, on 12/26/2007, -0/+6Maybe you'll find someone else to help you?
- SquigglyP, on 12/25/2007, -1/+7bad-ass. The Anomalous Materials pic is interesting. i wonder if they plan on having more scientists in there, and if so, perhaps after the 'event' they might have some scripted bullsquid-killing-scientist action going on in there, maybe...? Or headcrabs or something. Either way, bad-ass.
- inactive, on 12/26/2007, -0/+6Actually, that'd be great - I keep worrying that this mod's just gonna disappear like so many great mods that spend years in development do. They definitely deserve some compensation for their efforts, and Valve's official support would make it more likely to see the light of day (though possibly not for another five years).
- bman784, on 12/26/2007, -0/+6Are you kidding? If Valve contributed to this on top of what they've already built it would be incredible. I'd love to pay for that.
- bobsbones, on 12/26/2007, -1/+7Meh, it looks alright.
And my Meh, I mean wow, and by alright, I mean Freaking Awesome.
I just hope the improvements take a bit of the suckiness out of the Xen levels. - kweeky, on 12/26/2007, -1/+6That was a joke, haha. Fat chance!
- Skanadian, on 12/26/2007, -0/+5No Xen screenshots? :(
- marcomc2, on 12/26/2007, -0/+5Oh. My. God.
I. Love. These. People. - Stormseeker, on 12/26/2007, -0/+5We are currently developing this under the Episode 1 SDK, as such you will require something in the line of an x800pro or higher in order to run smoothly. If we recieve the Ep2 SDK codebase update in time, we may include the effects from that, and as such the requirements will likely go up higher.
You will need a copy of HL2 and Counterstrike Source in order to run this. - danno147, on 12/26/2007, -0/+5I would gladly pay money for this.
- Stormseeker, on 12/26/2007, -0/+5We have no intention of making anyone pay for this mod.
- passedoutghost, on 12/26/2007, -0/+5If you guys want this mod to be released please give them your support. They're looking for a few people to help them out. I would, but I'm useless :(
- Sairgem, on 12/26/2007, -0/+5It takes less than a second to hit the print screen button. Whine a little less please.
- manitoba98xp, on 12/26/2007, -2/+6Yeah....but at least that was original. Why hire people for recreating your own creative work? This may well be a good mod, but I wouldn't expect the team to get Valve jobs out of it.
- meamog, on 12/26/2007, -0/+4Well, I'd say the amount of work, attention to detail, modeling, and general commitment to the half life universe might be a few starting points as to why they might be desirable employees... not to mention their familiarity with the engine and tools. Granted, this is all speculative, and we'll tell once the game is done if they're really that good, but from the looks of it, they're on the ball.
- Scrappy1850, on 12/26/2007, -0/+4i think they have already won 2 mod of the years.
- EvilFerret, on 12/26/2007, -0/+4Yeah, people tend to change their minds when big bags of cashed are waved in their face...... Hmm.... Money to pay bills/college loans...new car...ect, or just a bunch of people telling us how much they enjoyed it but giving us nothing else for our efforts?
- kweeky, on 12/26/2007, -0/+4I think it is worth mentioning that although they are sticking to the core design of HL, they are taking quite a hefty artistic license with level geometry and styling. I personally hope that the gamble pays off and results in an enhanced experience (like TRA) and not just a rehashed experience (like HL:S).
Respects to the team, although they would be wise to get some kind of demo out if they want to fight the overwhelming tide of never-to-be-released syndrome that has plagued similarly stunning efforts in the past which has eventually doomed them to obscurity. - MiserJ, on 12/26/2007, -0/+3I guess they aren't that far into it yet :(
- z3row0rm, on 12/25/2007, -0/+3I've been following this mod for so long! They never update their webpage and wont give a release window for Black Mesa. I'll be very happy when this finally releases!
- Scrappy1850, on 12/26/2007, -0/+3i'll pay for this
- inactive, on 12/26/2007, -0/+3basically its HL1 with HL2 (and better) graphics
for an overall more cinematic and dramatic effect - valkyries, on 12/26/2007, -0/+3if it works thru steam it will work on wine.
- valkyries, on 12/26/2007, -0/+3uhm Halflife 1 came out in 98, and with source just maked the walls look shiny.
- piwy, on 12/26/2007, -0/+2HL2:E1 & 2 are. SiN wasn't.
