- somunny, on 10/10/2007, -19/+332I'm not seeing a reason to upgrade to a DX10 video card here.
- sakuraz, on 10/10/2007, -5/+81Of course not.
The development started with 360 and PS3(later dropped) in mind.
Neither can truly support DX10.
Nuff said. - AttackingHobo, on 10/10/2007, -3/+61Well it could be the fact that this game was not developed specfically for DirectX10, it is pretty much a port with a few effects enhanced.
If you really want to make that decision, wait until Crysis comes out. - G_Raph, on 10/10/2007, -7/+55Bioshock wasn't really designed for dx10. I am not judging dx10 till i can play crysis on my 8800.
- Arkavus, on 10/10/2007, -3/+50Not much of a difference, but I'm waiting to see what the difference will be with Crysis.
- pathy, on 10/10/2007, -2/+45I love comments like this. They make me smile.
- felman87, on 10/10/2007, -15/+57pardon my eye sight, but I don't see a difference
- byronm, on 10/10/2007, -10/+51I've been following the FSX directx 10 development and for the most part a straight migration from dx9 to dx10 doesn't increase graphics but in the case of FSX it gave a net 15-17% performance increase so now that they have seen that, they will work on utilizing the extra performance to add more depth, color, textures and whatnot. I'm pretty sure its the same with BioShock.. supports DX10 but it hasn't been enhanced for it and if ran on vista the DX10 version could run quicker than the 9 on appropriate hardware as reflected by the FSX development group
- chris9902, on 10/10/2007, -3/+40Maybe not an upgrade if you already have a 7900 but if you need a graphics card the 8800s are the best to buy. They out perform everything else by a mile.

http://www.gametrailers.com/player/19966.html - sensor, on 10/10/2007, -3/+38That's because the game was not designed for dx10. It obviously just supports it nothing else.
- redxii, on 10/10/2007, -0/+33All those 3D rendered pixel-shaded "Photobubket.com Bandwidth Exceeded" screenshots look the same to me.
- totorototoro, on 10/10/2007, -1/+30Would be cool to see Xbox360 shots of the same scenes :)
- Breatcliffe, on 10/10/2007, -7/+34No major difference but then again the real beauty of this game is the gameplay/story.
- sychodelix, on 10/10/2007, -5/+32DX10 doesn't EVER get to consoles. DirectX is a windows API...
- SnuKs, on 10/10/2007, -8/+34Wow everyone who says they see little or no difference in the screen shots are gettin dugg down. Someone here is probably regreting dropping big money on a DX10 card. ;P
- norman619, on 10/10/2007, -8/+28My god can you please do some research before posting something as ignorant as this? DX10 will be used minimally in most of the coming "DX10" games. Not enough to be noticed unless you are actually looking for it. The only reason they are being hyped as DX10 is because they are implementing maybe a DX10 particle system or maybe DX10 shadows. That's about it. You will not see a real difference for at least another year. The developers will not code REAL DX10 games until there are more people out there running DX10 capable systems. This will only happen as more people buy new systems with Vista pre-installed and with a DX10 card. Bioshock is NOT a true DX10 game. It is more like a DX9 game with some very small dash DX10 FX thrown in. Once you see what a full DX10 game looks like you will see why, if you are a gamer, you will want to upgrade to a DX10 card.
The DX10 cards themselves are dropping in price pretty fast. I would suggest moving to a DX10 card even if you are not running Vista (DX10 is Vista only BTW) mainly for the performance gains these cards give you. They are DX10 but they do DX9 exceptionally well. They outperform the best DX9 cards on DX9 games easily. - frsrblch, on 10/10/2007, -0/+20Alright, sorry for the unusual picture hosting, but my work has this strange misconception that I don't sit around all day with nothing to do, and that blocking the good bits of the internet must somehow increase my productivity...

- DesignerScott, on 10/10/2007, -3/+20Pic 7 even looks better on DX9
- Locke2053, on 10/10/2007, -5/+22sychodelix, have you ever heard of xbox? That's a PC with a stripped-down version of windows and a fast graphics card. utopialn is right, PCs get everything first. The first FPS (wolf3d), The first networked gaming. The first Internet gaming. The first with "save game" ability. I could go on forever. Consoles just bring last year's PC game technology to the masses.
- AhrenBa, on 10/10/2007, -8/+24Same here. I really don't notice that much of a difference, if any at all. A high end DX9 card will be just fine for me. :)
- Seften, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15That's been proven to be an artist's rendering of what DX10 could look like, not an actual screen shot discerning the two.
- jggr, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14Really? You could at least try you know. No one likes a quitter.
- specialK16, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14DX on the PS3? Wtf are you guys on?
- norman619, on 10/10/2007, -2/+16Sorry but only a moron would trust an OS service pack obtained from somewhere other than the manufacturer.
- DFENS, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15It's like people think programmers hit a magical 'DX10' button and everything gets pretty. Just like with ANY DX before, you have to program for it, the version doesn't just add things. All this shows is that the game was built for DX9 - which shouldn't shock ANYONE since the 360 is a DX9 platform, and the game was obviously built first for the console and the PC was secondary. How can you know this fact for certain? on the PC version, it tells you not to turn the system off when saving the game. So it was built for DX9, and doesn't take advantage of DX10.
You know what i've noticed? I buy those virtual console games on the my Wii, and none of the damn games take advantage of the Wiimote. Doesn't that make you angry? /sarcasm - Synthetik, on 10/10/2007, -2/+15You'll notice a big difference between 9.0c and the unsupported 9.0b shown here:

Kicking myself for buying an ATI x850XT and ignoring the 9.0c on the specs! - btgoss, on 10/10/2007, -7/+20Can't you all see that DX10 has EXTRA SMOKEY GOODNESS.... you will never see games the same again... think of all the SMOKE you have been missing... also look for extra smoke patches for all previous games, and of course the ID Smoke5 engine...
- SweetMercury, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14In other news, Photobucket continues to suck ass.
- Scheissenegger, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14wth did they make this artist render when the only difference is speed?!?!?!?

- joe90210, on 10/10/2007, -3/+14you won't see any real difference until you get games that are specifically designed for DX10, like crysis, look at this comparaison movie http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c8zgC86X2AU
- specialK16, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11It's a stripped down version of the NT5.0 (Windows 2000) kernel.
- Aleister76, on 10/10/2007, -4/+15Actually, it's far worse than that. I'm currently in college getting a degree in game programming and one of our first assignments was figuring out what OS the Xbox runs on. The original Xbox runs on a modified version of windows 2000 and the Xbox 360 runs on a modified version of that.
- TotalCarb, on 10/10/2007, -8/+19Any card that is DX9 can no longer be considered High-End.
- Casedot, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12if you buy a $3000 gaming rig for one game you are retarded.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11im sensing sarcasm right?
- frsrblch, on 10/10/2007, -10/+20I think the main reason to get a DX10 card now is that they're faster, which is only useful if you're upgrading already.
- Jugalator, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9You'll lose the Windows XP search dog without having to turn it off if you use Vista.
- PleaseJustDie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9First off, to everyone who thinks you can get DX10 on the xbox, you cannot. Part of what seperates DX10 from DX9 hardware isn't just a software upgrade, its a specified standard that the hardware has to meet to be direct X 10 compatible. Some examples are the Unified Shader Architecture, that is required for hardware to be DX10 compatible. That's why some graphics cards are DX10 compatible and Some aren't. Because the hardware had to be redesigned to meet DX10 specifications. The consoles do not meet the DX10 specifications, the xbox meets most of them, but not all, and therefore cannot use DX10.
- Radan, on 10/10/2007, -2/+11That doesn't look like DX9, more like DX7. And there's nothing in the DX10 picture which isn't possible to do with the current technology.
- slochewie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Title misleading. These are above and below, not side by side. No digg.
- ICSU, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9If you spend $3k on PC just for gaming alone, you must be...rich (or have rich parents).
- Hickeroar, on 10/10/2007, -5/+14I have an 8800GTX and I own a copy of Vista. I use XP however because all games were getting a 10-15% performance drop using Vista. My copy of Vista sits in a box and is not installed on my computer at all. After seeing comparison shots, I know that as of NOW I'm not missing anything in DX10. I have my card simply for the next-gen horsepower it provides... I'll "adopt" DX10 and Vista after Service Pack 1 comes out and addresses the performance issues.
- BESTenemy, on 10/10/2007, -4/+13The only thing is, crysis is not out yet and by the time it does get released, DX10 cards that are available right now are going to get cheaper. At this point there is no point in buying 8800's apart from getting brag-worthy frame rates that your eye fails to differentiate.
- austintechhead, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Why would you torrent anything OS-Related? Probably one of the dumbest ideas - ever. There are ways of getting your OS for free, D/L on torrents is definitely not my number one recommendation.
- Twinnie, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9I can't see a difference at all, maybe there's a little more smoke on that one at the bit where you need to smash the rubble and that red speaker thing on the wall looks different on the one with the red mist.
- frsrblch, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10Right, of course. By DX10 card, I meant 8800.
- tankdilla, on 10/10/2007, -6/+14More importantly, I'm still not seeing a reason to upgrade to Vista.
- sychodelix, on 10/10/2007, -3/+11Wrong. The 8800 is faster. All the others in the 8 series are pitiful in comparison.
