- dagnabbit, on 07/07/2008, -7/+211How about you actually play the thing before telling Blizzard how to fix it.
- 1gunners4, on 07/07/2008, -5/+88For all we know the BC could end up costing 1,000 minerals and 500 gas and take up 15 slots! How the hell can you judge a game at this point?? It's not even the freakin' Beta yet!
- wexmajor, on 07/07/2008, -2/+72I'm all for telling companies what to do with their products but this seems a little premature.
- 9bpm9, on 07/07/2008, -0/+32We all know Starcraft wasn't perfect when it came out right? But guess what, Blizzard sticks with their games and perfected it over the course of a decade.
- Billistic, on 07/08/2008, -2/+30He gave points on how they could possibly fix it, how is this not constructive?
- awesome365, on 07/07/2008, -0/+26premature, let's let them get into beta before writing something like this.
- Mugsleymug, on 07/08/2008, -1/+19what a terrible article that game hasn't even been put into a state where anyone could consider the balance yet. who digs this garbage?
- bdickason, on 07/07/2008, -0/+18yeah... are all these fixes just theorycraft? or are you leaking alpha info? ;)
- lordwow, on 07/08/2008, -4/+20They should make it look a lot darker and add a grain filter. That'd make it awesome...
- Gizza, on 07/08/2008, -1/+18"Currently the most overpowered unit in the game, with about 8 of these they can clear the map. "
"These guys counter everything except Air right now, their spread attack is devastating to all ground units. In higher numbers it is one of the most unstoppable forces in Starcraft 2."
Perhaps this guy should learn to play. Maybe that's the point of those units, and you're not suppose to let your enemy get that many. - ippey, on 07/07/2008, -0/+15Hopefully they'll catch most of these in beta. Bliz will get the game as close to balanced as they can at launch, but there is always going to be that one guy that finds the really cheap strategy and exploit the hell out of it to boost his ladder rank before it is patched.
I imagine a large series of patches following release to balance it out after the mass market has had a swing at it for a bit. - inactive, on 07/08/2008, -2/+16Play the game first, then make suggestions. Also, shame on Diggers for voting this up in the first place.
- mcrumiller, on 07/08/2008, -0/+12It took Starcraft I more than a year for gamers to realize what was imbalanced and what wasn't. Having Starcraft 2 noobs playing and commenting on various imbalances changes nothing. Whereas you can't find a good way to kill a roach early game, someone else might find an awesome strategy that even requires roaches be BUFFED.
Let's just let Blizzard do their thing, then let the players do their thing. Blizzard is working closely with the SC community to make SC 2 as balanced and enjoyable as possible. If something is egregiously wrong, it will not make it to the final release. The little details will get fixed with patches over time. - Surreal, on 07/08/2008, -2/+14Terrible article, what do they know about Blizzard's plans for balance!? Buried for lameness.
- KyleBP, on 07/07/2008, -0/+11wtb BETA
- RSS14, on 07/08/2008, -1/+10I am pretty sure Blizzard knows their ***** more than some blogger.
- inactive, on 07/08/2008, -0/+8More than 30.000 signed a petition criticizing Diablo 3, now people are whining about how the units in SC2 should be done...what are all of you trying to do, make Blizzard delay the games even more?
- ShadLighT, on 07/07/2008, -1/+9At First blizzard has to release alpha/beta version to balance the game at the end. Its impossible to make a balanced game without people testing it, lets be patient
- sg7791, on 07/08/2008, -1/+8That's the way it's always been. Your Zerglings are no match for a battlecruiser.
- ChileanGoD, on 07/08/2008, -0/+7google... define: nerfing...
"When game designers reduce the effectiveness of an item or character class to improve game balance."
Thank you google - BlackJackJester, on 07/08/2008, -0/+71) Unit has yet to be balanced
2) Who are you to tell them hydralisk strategy in a game that isn't even in beta yet
3) Why are you attacking a tier 3 defensive building with how HP infantry, and what the heck is "3 waves"? Maybe stalkers aren't meant to be siege weapons.
4) Lets wait to see how their cost to damage ratio balances out
5) Learn to get up to date. BC's cannot attack multiple targets anymore, and no longer have the AoE ground barrage. Check out the SC2 forums once in a while. - sexualwasabi, on 07/07/2008, -2/+9Blizzard knows about these issues in balance, this is a good snap shot of the state of the game now however. Can't wait to be playing SC2 and look back and say, remember when those BCs where overpowered .
- Sroek, on 07/08/2008, -7/+13If you read the article, the writer seems to be a closed tester. Still though, he sounds more bitchy than constructive.
- 1gunners4, on 07/08/2008, -0/+6Engage*
- inactive, on 07/08/2008, -1/+7***** buried. If you're not working on making the game with Blizzard, then you're not a ***** expert. News Flash: ALL rts games have balance issues when they are first released. All of them. It takes patching to make these kinds of games perfectly balanced.
- aserer511, on 07/08/2008, -0/+56. Koreans playing on US servers :P
- Vodd9, on 07/08/2008, -0/+5I suggest that you take a look at the most recent ranking of the professionnal Starcraft players:
http://www.gosugamers.net/starcraft/news/8642-flas ...
Particularily to where it says:
"Race breakdown
12 Terran
10 Protoss
8 Zerg" - Yazilliclick, on 07/08/2008, -1/+6Playing a game for a few hours for the first time ever at a location such as that does not equal knowing how to play the game and what works and what doesn't.
- kinseyincanada, on 07/08/2008, -1/+6How the hell are people complaining about a balance issue when game isnt even out yet?
- Blandyman, on 07/08/2008, -0/+5In the cage?
- Schmapdi, on 07/08/2008, -1/+6Don't even get me started about how imbalanced Starcraft IV is. I mean seriously - 45 googernots for a single pleiterschang? And that's in tier 9? Ridiculous!
- blueduck4ever, on 07/08/2008, -0/+4history shows that when a game developer decides it knows what its fans want more then its fans is the day that, that developer starts to put out crap.
- groceryheist, on 07/08/2008, -0/+44 pool was never ima cause you can kill them with SCVs easy.
learn to play game n00b. - Vodd9, on 07/08/2008, -0/+4The first game was pretty damn balanced, even before patch 1.08 which balanced the game to the prefection. The only imbalance now depends on the map. Blizzard can and will balance it to perfection like they did for the first SC, I am absolutely confident about that.
- Pake, on 07/08/2008, -1/+4Buried for being lame. You can't talk about game balance until you've actually played the game and considering beta is still a month or two off minimal, GameRiot has no ground to stand on.
- troglodytejb, on 07/08/2008, -0/+3True, but they have a huge problem on their hands. Taking on SC2 was a mistake, in my opinion. They haven't changed enough about the way is played to make it entirely new, but they've changed enough that they can't stick with the balance from SC1.
Two of the most popular competitive games out are CS1.6 and SC1. People have shown that they don't NEED the shiny graphics, that the balanced gameplay is more important. Starcraft 2 has prettier graphics and a few new units, sure, but what else does it bring to the table? The answer is, nothing you can't get anywhere else. The terrain is shallow and simplistic and tactics consist primarily of micro rather than positioning or cover. If SC2 is not PERFECTLY balanced very quickly, I don't think the community will survive. Why would it? For perfect balance, you can play SC1. For gameplay innovations, you can play DOW2, RA3, whatever Petraglyph comes up with, Halo Wars, etc...
The problem is that SC1 is still SC2s best competitor. SC fills a niche in the RTS market-- perfect balance-- and SC2 HAS to match or beat it very quickly, because it's otherwise not innovating. Add into this mix that Blizzard is historically ATROCIOUS at balancing games (with the notable exception of SC1) and I'm very concerned about SC2 (Warcraft 2 managed to be imba and the SIDES WERE MIRRORED WITH 1 EXCEPTION).
However, D3 makes me happy in the pants. - shiitake, on 07/08/2008, -2/+5Alpha != Final
- icantdenythis, on 07/08/2008, -0/+3I'm pretty sure you just suck at starcraft.
- rockjunky116, on 07/08/2008, -1/+4yes, let's play 3v3 ZC nrMM and talk about how Starcraft works
- Scopitone, on 07/08/2008, -2/+5Thanks, blogger guy.
- exomni, on 07/08/2008, -0/+3All this stuff besides the first one could be done after release, just like Blizzard did with StarCraft 1.
Believe me, StarCraft was definitely not perfect when it first came out. - otros, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2Hence the "soon"
- notdatagain, on 07/08/2008, -1/+3This artricle = !gosu.
- Frost9999, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2The under-water units in Warcraft 5 are really over-powered.
- Sairgem, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2Go whine somewhere else about that.
- jockser, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2All I got to say to the author of this article, and I do hope you read this...
GET. A. *****. LIFE!!!! this game hasn't been released nor it is in beta. - ComNes, on 07/08/2008, -1/+3What a horrible article, why complain about balance before any playable version of the game is made available?
- XBSHX, on 07/08/2008, -1/+3Sometimes you need opinions of outsiders to truly balance games. You could be playing a game for years and not notice a major balance problem because you're used to it.
- rabidg00se, on 07/08/2008, -1/+3No, then it would just be Starablo!
- XBSHX, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2He is saying when it gets closer to release, not what it is at the WWI.
