He had every opportunity to straighten the leg out, but instead you can see the look of a contemptuous 'whatever' in his face as he stands up, and it looks like he wants to convert it into a slam. Then he panics and bends at the waist, once again forgetting to straighten that leg out.

- inactive, on 05/27/2009, -1/+1Thats awfully definitive of you to say the slam would only suck you in tighter. Clearly you've never been really slammed before. By standing up, you gained posture(the triangle is incredibly hard to hold down when they posture)... you don't need to straighten your legs but it does help and it would have definitely improved his slam. Further, a figure four is not an easy hold... especially at that angle... again, by saying slamming will just sink it in, it shows me you've never held a figure four before. A well executed slam would sink you down into the hips and allow you to pass the figure four by pushing the other arm through, in which case you can pry or push out of the hold with your elbows. The figure four with the triangle is even more likely to break if you push outward with the caught arm, most people who sink a triangle require an arm on the foot of the bent leg, and the top of the opponents head, and they need to pulllllll very hard to make it happen.
that being said, if you don't have the hip power to slam - your chances of slamming out of a well locked triangle are slim.
