Greater Kansas CIty Regional Winner - cyroxos, on 01/05/2008, -0/+81288! FIRST robotics was a major portion of my life, some of the best moments i can remember.
- inactive, on 01/05/2008, -0/+8Team 1276
Granite State Regional Champions
I'm not actually on the team anymore, but that was one of the most fun experiences of my life. - ItsMyWii, on 01/05/2008, -1/+7They should probably do something about their website first.
- martynda, on 01/06/2008, -0/+5I did this in 2000-02 and must say that this is one of the most worthwhile things to do in HS. It's crazy to see 4 digit teams now, a testament to how big the thing has gotten. We were 469
My only criticism of the whole thing is that money plays a HUGE role in the competition. I remember teams sponsored by Dupont or Boeing that had engineers from those companies basically make the entire robot from start to finish, the only thing the kids did was drive it. Teams with a smaller budget almost had no chance. - Nicklogan, on 01/06/2008, -0/+5For those who can't access that particular team's page you can always go to http://www.usfirst.org
- usbcd36, on 01/06/2008, -0/+5Already doing the homework, eh?
- PathDaemon, on 01/05/2008, -0/+4555 reporting in. Colorado winner last year; THIS is going to be an interesting game.
- carpespasm, on 01/06/2008, -1/+5Anyone else ever make the association with robotics team numbers and slashdot UID numbers? The lower your number the more respect your team is defaulted.
- theholyraptor, on 04/07/2008, -0/+4Team 1097 & 692! even though 1097 doesn't compete anymore.

Thomas A. Edison High School
NYC regional - JustinH, on 01/06/2008, -0/+3This year looks like its going to be a blast
President of R.A.G.E. 173 - macsrbetter36, on 01/06/2008, -0/+3Whoa, I'm in team 639. I've never seen two consecutive team numbers before......I guess I should get out more.
- blacklint, on 01/06/2008, -0/+3The Blue Alliance isn't a team or affiliated with a team. It's a great website about FIRST and robotics in general. From the submitter, "--I entered that url partially because i thought it would have an archive of the feed once it was over, and partially because i wasn't thinking! Also, usfirst was down at the time..."
...and, same sentiments about your comment that you expressed about the story... - d0nk, on 01/06/2008, -0/+2Team862 is where all the cool kids are from
PS: I'm mentor and former student from team862 :D - ut2k4king, on 01/06/2008, -0/+2Team 41, RoboWarriors. W00t!

Good luck to all teams this year! - gharding, on 01/06/2008, -0/+2Go Chuck 84!
- 2Eterneon, on 01/06/2008, -0/+2Dude, tell me about it. We, at the VCU regional, saw a certain triad of robots all sponsored by the same companies, including Qimonda, and they ALL won awards in addition to picking/being picked on alliances. One of the triad even won the regional. What's sad is that the three schools were located on the wealthier side of the county.
- randomvictim, on 01/06/2008, -0/+2The new game sucks imho. I started watching at 10:00 AM EST this morning and waited an hour and 45 minutes before they showed the game, it was so boring.
- Spindash54, on 01/06/2008, -0/+2J-Birds 1468 all the way!
- sparrowkc, on 01/06/2008, -0/+2It's not really about electrical engineering. It's mostly about gaining the skills and knowledge to work as a team to create innovative and new things.
That said, I am the electrical and programing head on my team, and I am wondering what your definition of electrical engineering is. The robots are run by pic controllers, and most teams have a need to build and design custom circuits to implement ideas. Also, I just spent a couple hours writing the basis of this year's code in C. There is a period at the beginning of the game where the robot must navigate the course, avoid other robots, herd 4' diamater balls around the track, and manipulate balls 6' in the air. The drivers are allowed a remote with four on/off buttons to controll it. That means autonomy; processing sensor inputs and deciding what to do with minimal interaction.
What I am trying to say is that you are an idiot. - almghty1666, on 01/06/2008, -0/+2dugg for doing deans HW

- Junpei, on 01/06/2008, -0/+1Instigators 1596 from The UP, used to be the International Team with the twin soo's, Michigan and Ontario. Just got back from brain storming with my team about the new game. I'm the guy incharge of out website. I'm glad they got rid of the Cam this year, reduces a headache. The game is extremely interesting though, I'm pretty excited about it.
- vladimirptn, on 01/06/2008, -0/+1I am so pleased to see this make the front page. I have been a huge supporter of this program for many years. I was with my old team for the kick-off this morning. Go team 107!
- Samtheman007, on 01/06/2008, -0/+1Sweet, I totally didn't even know we front paged digg. I was there and helped with a lot of the production work.
- Tanktunker, on 01/06/2008, -0/+1You Americans and your big corporations giving you money and things.
We have like, 3 mentors, and no sponsors whatsoever.
We don't even have good coffee, we have this disgusting coffee dust crap, that, instead of dissolving in water, forms a big ball of ***** on contact with water, unless you sprinkle it slowly, and even if you sprinkle it slowly. - tau09, on 01/06/2008, -0/+1As a former member, good luck this year!
- ksong12, on 01/06/2008, -0/+1Good luck to all teams!
