- drbonemonkey, on 08/07/2008, -1/+11Is NBC going to limit viewers to the USA? I've noticed a lot of the major networks block every other country from watching their streaming videos.
- Mossman85, on 08/07/2008, -2/+10Most Americans would still be sleeping even if the games were held in the States.
- str3ama, on 08/08/2008, -1/+7Rundown of the list:
http://www.nbcolympics.com/ (US only)
http://watch-olympics-online.co.cc/watch-live.php (syndication of pirated streams)
http://www.tvtonic.com/olympics/install/ (I really don't like this program, it's adware in my opinion and it's got some aggressive programs that run in the background to parse rss that keep starting back up even after closing tvtonic, and ending the program. Sweet interface, but really suspicious behavior that uses network traffic even when it's not running).
http://www.cctvolympics.com/
http://www.youtube.com/beijing2008 (only for US, India and a few other places. Weirdly it doesn't work for me on Comcast, WTF, oh and it's about 3 hours or 3 days behind so it won't start showing the opening ceremonies until long after its done, and only clips)
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/olympics/default.s ... (BBC Sports just clips)
http://au.sports.yahoo.com/olympics/video/ (for Australia only sucks because it looks pretty good)
http://www.cbc.ca/olympics/ (Canadians only, video clips and some full streams - not sure if there's live stream as is quoted on there)
http://www.cox.net/ - commentary, only available for Cox ISP subscribers.
To get around filters, article suggests proxies and then links to a web proxy - that's stupid, because a web proxy won't work for live streaming video, and most will limit the amount of bandwidth you can use to watch videos like youtube videos, etc. You need a real proxy, not a web proxy.
p2p options: regular line up tv ants, tvu, etc. I don't recommend it because it's not really reliable and some of these programs contain spyware/adware - so stay safe and do some research on whatever you use, and always get the program from the creator's website if you decide to go this route to ensure you're getting the unaltered program. This will eat up bandwidth too because you're uploading while downloading, so realize that. - UtahApocalyse, on 08/07/2008, -1/+7Here in Utah ALL of NBC's coverage will be tape delayed. Not 1 single thing will be live. Even events that will be live on NBC in the east are being tape delayed here. Sorry NBC.... i will be watching other sources.
- PainToad, on 08/07/2008, -1/+6American media never seems to give the Olympics much attention, isn't it popular over there?
Over here in Aus we get like over 12 hours a day of LIVE coverage. - trakie, on 08/07/2008, -1/+6NBC requires 32bit vista (i have ubuntu and dual boot 64 bit vista), and the rest are country/region specific great. and here i thought the point of the internet was to give people access to information not limit it, silly me.
- MikeonTV, on 08/07/2008, -9/+14Have they allowed MMA in the Olympics yet?
- sockpuppets, on 08/07/2008, -3/+8You're thinking of the Chinese X Games.
- CobaltBlue, on 08/07/2008, -1/+5Man, I hope this lives up to it's promise. The website shows a huge amount of sports to watch online. Last night I was watching the U.S. - Japan soccer match and it worked great.
The best part is none of the sappy athlete profiles that make up 70% of the prime time Olympic programming.
I hope this works out so in 2 years time I can watch the real winter Olympics and not a few minutes of sports programming in the breaks of figure skating. - Iggins, on 08/09/2008, -0/+2Horray, only Intel macs supported on NBCOlympics.com. Jesus i hate that. I have all the plugins needed except for Micro$ofts stupid-ass "silverlight". Why do they insist on making ***** standards? like wmv's?
- inactive, on 08/08/2008, -0/+2All I see is smog.
- ordig, on 08/11/2008, -0/+1Is there some way to spoof my IP so that NBC thinks i am in the US?
- shutaro, on 08/07/2008, -1/+2I hear that, in a symbolic thank you to the host nation, all teams will enter the stadium at a slow pace, straddling two lanes, and with their left hand turn signal on.
- ordig, on 08/11/2008, -0/+1Yeah you can't watch it in canada.
I'm trying to get around this with a proxy but it is a pain in the ass. - Whitey07, on 08/08/2008, -0/+1You all know who will win anyway....
- Izzio, on 08/09/2008, -0/+1Not true. I'm watching it right now on 64-bit. Also in their FAQ section, it says that XP and OS X are supported.
- 4eloBek, on 08/08/2008, -0/+1bah i am on traffic limitations.... so tv for meh
- hakluytbean, on 08/07/2008, -1/+2As noted at the bottom of the article NBC are using MS Silverlight: http://www.techcrunch.com/2008/01/06/microsoft-sil ... & http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7529581.stm
- Hello1024, on 08/07/2008, -1/+1Correct - Olympic licensing prevents worldwide broadcasts.
You'll have to find a service in your country or a pirate p2p stream to watch. - CobaltBlue, on 08/07/2008, -1/+1I wouldn't be surprised as they wouldn't make any advertising money from viewers in other countries.
- sockpuppets, on 08/07/2008, -2/+2Reply button cat is disappointed you do not use his product.
- uker, on 08/08/2008, -1/+1If you are the protester. they probly will do that.
- SignOfHope, on 08/08/2008, -1/+2yea, whatever happened to boycotting the Olympics?
those monks are gonna have to hit the streets again. & they will. - chayong, on 08/08/2008, -0/+0I think that the US / UK proxies are going to be running overtime these next few weeks while people are trying to get over the country restrictions between NBC, ABC, etc... Anyway the most comprehensive list of sites I've found is here:
http://www.tiphub.com/92_Best_ways_to_watch_the_Be ... - inactive, on 08/08/2008, -3/+3Their logo kinda looks like a protester that was run over by a tank
- krnldmp, on 08/07/2008, -1/+2Is it interactive this year? Why burden internet with something that can be broadcast over air.
- sneedo, on 08/08/2008, -1/+1I've just been wishing that they'd let you subscribe to a feed of your favorite event(s) and then download them as podcasts.
- Arcadian, on 08/07/2008, -4/+4No. Unless they give me a face mask.
- Lumbeekid06, on 08/07/2008, -2/+3and dont forget to look up the trampoline events!
- Gunsotsu, on 08/07/2008, -2/+3Are they going to broadcast the protests and police suppression too?
- willori, on 08/07/2008, -2/+1I'm pretty disappointed that the opening ceremonies won't be live.
- oraki, on 08/09/2008, -0/+0Here's for those who miss Opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics:

All I want is streaming Olympics and have nothing. NBC looks like it's got it all but only works for US viewers.
The coverage on Channel 7 in Australia is terrible. -
