- Devilboy666, on 08/21/2008, -0/+33The real story here: Australia made it to the quarter finals!?
- deweyhewson, on 08/21/2008, -6/+31Andrew Bogut = the most overrated athlete to come out of Utah since Alex Smith.
- BlockedUser, on 08/21/2008, -8/+28Because we all thought that the US Basketball team WASN'T going to win... :/
- DarthPilatus, on 08/21/2008, -1/+21Feel better? Good... now go brush your teeth
- sgtbutterscotch, on 08/21/2008, -1/+20They didn't win last time.
- inactive, on 08/21/2008, -1/+19Basketball isn't really an Australian game. We play Rugby, Aussie Rules Football and Cricket..
Basketball and Baseball are American things.. - SissySlapParty, on 08/21/2008, -3/+20Sweeping generalisations FTL.
Hey remember when England used to be an influential country in the world?
Wasn't that a while ago.
Your country is declining into a world-wide joke, and you ***** failures are loving it. - sparks2, on 08/21/2008, -4/+21Because they won last time... right?
- thebradz, on 08/21/2008, -1/+18Fun facts!
"The official Test Cricket nations are currently: England, Australia, West Indies, South Africa, India, Pakistan, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, and Zimbabwe.
The West Indies is actually a consortium of Caribbean countries: Barbados; Jamaica; Guyana; The Republic of Trinidad and Tobago; Antigua and Barbuda; St. Kitt's-Nevis; Dominica; St. Lucia; St. Vincent and the Grenadines; Montserrat; and Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique.
Minor cricketing nations (which do not play Test cricket, but do compete for a place in the World Cup One-Day competition) include: Kenya, Fiji, Canada, The Netherlands, Bangladesh."
France also has cricketing connections:
"France was one of two nations to compete in the only Olympic cricket event, in 1900. They lost, making them the only nation to lose an Olympic cricket match and the only Olympic silver medallists in Cricket."
Whereas Basketball:
Britain, Greece, Russia, Lithuania, Sweden, Canada, USA, Japan, Australia, Spain, Argentina, Serbia, Montenegro, Croatia, Slovenia.

So, yeah. - nitemonkey, on 08/21/2008, -5/+20"U.S. Basketball Men Blow Out Australia"
This title makes me want to make a joke about 'balls' and 'rim'. But I won't. - quomen, on 08/21/2008, -7/+21YAY USA!
- sacxnz, on 08/21/2008, -2/+15As an Australian I'm happy to see GB win. It makes you so disproportionately happy, because it happens so infrequently, it's cute.
- nitemonkey, on 08/21/2008, -3/+16You are absolutely right. Australia sucks. Please spread the word to your fellow Brits. We have enough of you here already. :)
- Lochie, on 08/21/2008, -1/+14It is actually, probably more than Basketball.
- brjndr, on 08/21/2008, -1/+12God I hate that flopping bastard.
I can't wait until next season, when ref's can hand out penalties for flopping. Ginobili is probably going to lead the league. - brjndr, on 08/21/2008, -2/+12He went to Univ. of Utah, and so did Alex Smith.
- jmoo1, on 08/21/2008, -0/+10Don't expect any quality coverage from channel 7 - they ***** it up everytime. Try SBS instead.
- ozodin, on 08/21/2008, -0/+9Yeah, him whinging at the end of the game about that foul sounded like sour grapes. Fair enough to mention it, but he did have a little hissy fit about it, you could notice the other commenter trying to calm it down by saying how much the US teams sportsmanship had improved. Decent game though, but I don't think any Aussie actually expected us to win.
- DestroyFascism, on 08/21/2008, -0/+8Strange I didn't see any American player helping other players get up off the floor, they usually just turned their backs to them...
- bossywalker, on 08/21/2008, -0/+7Channel 7 coverage sucked big time. Actually all of their coverage has sucked. They keep switching to other events they think we care about when we just want to watch a whole game of basketball or hockey. I thought that the commentator getting fired up was Andrew Gaze.
- orph3us, on 08/21/2008, -0/+7In one post you manage to bash American Basketball trumpeting and then go on by trumpeting Brazil and Argentina. Soccer (Futbol) countries trumpet when they win, what's wrong with doing it when Americans win at something. Personally I think too much cheering is stupid of any sport. But whatever, gives people something to escape their lives from for a little while. Your post is still hypocritical :P
- kratsnitram, on 08/21/2008, -1/+8Baseball is no more an American thing than rugby is a British thing. There are a similar number of countries who play it well in both sports at an international level. I think the biggest difference in the two, participation-wise, is that there are FAR more top flight Rugby professional leagues than there baseball. There's really only the Japanese league and MLB, so all the good international players play in the States. You've got Super 14, Heineken Cup, Currie Cup, plus all the national bodies to play regularly for. I wish we had that in baseball...
- diceau, on 08/21/2008, -0/+7You're kidding right, you're judging an entire population by the actions and words of a few?
I'm Australian but I don't care who wins, it's all about the individuals in my view ... the rivalry is pointless, it's not like you had anything to do with their success just because you're from the same country. Just admire how incredible these people really are, forget the "HAHAHAAH WE BEAT YOU" *****, because there is no 'we', and I doubt you can play basketball as well as anyone on the Australian team, or any other team for that matter. - SLP1111, on 08/21/2008, -0/+7All I can read is "US Mens Basketball Team Blows Australia". Damn you internets for warping my mind.
- nitemonkey, on 08/21/2008, -0/+7Don't tell it to me...tell it to everyone over there! With your enthusiasm you could single-handedly bring British immigration to a halt. What a champ.
- Akaricloud, on 08/21/2008, -0/+7Well done on all the flame baiting and trolling in this thread.
The simple fact that you judge an entire country over the fact our sports announcers and basketball team are arrogant cocky ***** astounds me. Over here in Australia Basketball as a sport is failing hardcore. Sponsorship is way down, attendance in crowds is way down and even state teams are being forced to merge with each other or relocate. The fact is we as a nation really don't care much for Basketball, this isn't to say that competing at the Olympics wasn't important, hell I watched the game and was hoping for an Aussie win, but our players and commentators don't make up a majority of the opinion of our Country.
The fact is, the American team was a lot stronger then ours and therefore won. Well done on it and BOL in the final against Argentina (I think?)
Not all Americans are fat, arrogant, stupid *****. Not all Australians are ignorant, idiotic kangaroo lovers.
Well done to both sides, lets drop it and have fun competing in whats left of the Olympics. - jec68, on 08/21/2008, -13/+19I watched this game from Australia, and I had two problems:
1.) Channel 7 let a softball extra innings game overlap the first quarter and a half of action, aka, the only interesting moments. What the ***** Channel 7?
2.) Their color announcer was garbage. He had some strong words for Carlos Boozer after his "hard" foul on one of their players up 29 points - he was disgusted that Boozer did not go over and pick up the felled Aussie. Earlier in the game he was quite a partisan during the tiny skirmish after a hard foul on Carmelo Anthony, saying the hard foul was "just a part of the game!!".
It was fun to watch the USA beat the piss out of the Aussies though, U-S-A, U-S-A! - canewediggit, on 08/20/2008, -7/+13wait, you mean the 14 million dollar man andrew bogut couldn't stop the usa? shocked!
ginobili- consider yourself warned! - unida767, on 08/21/2008, -0/+6No one expected us to win and we didn't big whoop. Andrew Gaze the co-commentator is a former Olympic basketballer with Australia and pathetically one eyed. We get a lot of rejected NBA players come out here to play and they saved our NBL.
- canewediggit, on 08/21/2008, -2/+8fun fact! - your countries are all wrong.not including china in a list of countries that play basketball while saying france plays cricket because in 1900 they were in the olympics is just silly. china estimates it has 300 million people that play basketball. that's our population. how many people play cricket in france today?
so, yeah - unida767, on 08/21/2008, -1/+7In a glass beside you
- koleka, on 08/21/2008, -0/+6I think Australia has done pretty well considering we are a nation of 20million people as apposed to the 300+ million the US has to pick from.
- z0mb13, on 08/21/2008, -5/+11***** pussies, covering vital organs and ligaments with protective gear to have a more lengthy and productive career. If you aren't a paraplegic by age 30, grow a dick.
- Kristijan12, on 08/21/2008, -0/+5There is no more Yugoslavia who could only stop USA back in 90`s.
Will see if Argentina can do something to stop the Dream Team. - inactive, on 08/21/2008, -0/+5DO IT! DO IT! DO IT!
- kendals, on 08/21/2008, -1/+6Wow, Americans beat Australia at an American game that they dominate, and Australia's NBL has been failing for the past 15 years...
Just how much is the USA Dream Team worth, $-wise? - RMoore08, on 08/21/2008, -0/+5In your attempt to not tell the joke, you actually did make one.
- SissySlapParty, on 08/21/2008, -2/+7Oh piss off.
Your girls are all vulgar ***** drunkards.
(Hey look, I can make generalisations, too!)
Don't worry, if we aren't coming over to fill your IT positions then I'm sure all the illigal immigrants that constantly decide to set up camp in England will.
And your youth are trashed.
A glorified generation of hoodlums.
What ever happened to England being a base of Western culture?
Enjoy your declining *****-heap of a country you ***** failtard. - tama00, on 08/21/2008, -1/+6Thats pretty low borez, your a prejudice and raciest man and therefor i wish hateful things upon you. Please never breed and have children.
- wickensworth, on 08/21/2008, -2/+7God, Digg users talking about basketball is like West Virginians talking about politics
- CyrusG, on 08/21/2008, -2/+6Uhh.. rewebbed, I hate to break it to you, but Argentina won the gold in 2004.
- nitemonkey, on 08/21/2008, -2/+6I don't think borez recognised that as an insult rofl
- inactive, on 08/21/2008, -2/+6Calm down mate its just a game. I mean seriously, you have 60 million people we have 20million. That only points to how ***** you guys have done at Olympic games (and other sports) in recent history. The nature in which you have lashed out only demonstrates how desperate you were to finally have a dig at us, but i guess i would get cranky too if i was covered in filth for long periods of time. Maybe a shower is in order?
- inactive, on 08/21/2008, -2/+6This would be like the aussies celebrating a win against the US in cricket. Aussies care about basketball like Americans care about the rest of the world.
- Jamiekin, on 08/21/2008, -1/+5Actually, that Australia vs Japan softball game was incredible. So many twists and turns, and it was absolutely nail biting right to the very end. Much more entertaining than the basketball game.
- rabidg00se, on 08/21/2008, -1/+54/10 trolling attempt, but only because you got two idiots to digg you down.
- SissySlapParty, on 08/21/2008, -2/+6So you actually think your country has been steadily progressing as opposed to what it once was?
Retardation or willful denial? - inactive, on 08/21/2008, -0/+4Damn, those were the days. =D Too bad the best player is Darko Milicic now. :(
- thebradz, on 08/21/2008, -0/+4I think you missed the point.
Good try, anyway! -
