- MasterPlayer, on 08/16/2008, -0/+210gif of just how close it was, Phelps is the one without the suit.

- SillyHalfMexcan, on 08/16/2008, -2/+189One Mississippi, Two Mississippi, Three Mississippi.
- inactive, on 08/16/2008, -6/+177I apologize for misspelling "of"... I was still in a state of shock 8)
- lorductape, on 08/16/2008, -4/+170unbelieveable.
- tidu, on 08/16/2008, -3/+157i want to see Phelps eat a dolphin
- Sornos, on 08/16/2008, -0/+142No fair! They've changed the outcome by measuring it!
- inactive, on 08/16/2008, -5/+78i want to see Phelps marry a dolphin then race and eat it
- kwynn87, on 08/16/2008, -14/+87I'm not going to lie... I came.
- vexingmodstwo, on 08/16/2008, -3/+75Protest denied. It's official. He needs one more to become the best ever (in a single Olympics, he's already the best ever overall)
- twomeyw23334, on 08/16/2008, -2/+74Yeah, but Spitz did it sporting a mustache and a full head of hair.

He deserves a gold for just for style points. - medj, on 08/16/2008, -7/+79Digg is really hooked on this guy.
- uncertainty, on 08/16/2008, -1/+71He was trailing the whole race. I was so sure he wasn't going to make this one.
- dreamtiger, on 08/16/2008, -3/+71Yeah, and the gratuitous apostrophe in gets is pretty lame, too.
- amdahlj, on 08/16/2008, -1/+68On the bright side, it looks like he's no good at finishing...
- liljay2k, on 08/16/2008, -2/+66http://www.seiko.co.jp/en/experience/sports_timing ...
- patriotsfan82, on 08/16/2008, -0/+64The error for any timing system in the olympics must be to within 1/1000th of a second.
- liljay2k, on 08/16/2008, -1/+64THAT WAS FREAKIN' AMAZING!
- 1gunners4, on 08/16/2008, -2/+53Serbia, not Yugoslavia; the latter no longer exists.
- Ohashikto, on 08/16/2008, -1/+51Honestly, this is just getting kind of ridiculous. Yeah, he's a freak of nature. Yeah, he's the best swimmer of all-time. But my god, with Lezak's split a few days ago and now his win by 0.01 seconds... Fate is just on his side.
- foolosophy, on 08/16/2008, -7/+55Didn't think it could get better than the relay win. But this ladies and gentlemen takes the cake. One-one hundredth of a second? That's fate, that's destiny.
- benburned, on 08/16/2008, -0/+48Damn. It seemed his arms appeared from nowhere. The other guy must have been pissed.
- cyrix, on 08/16/2008, -2/+49Digg is mostly US centric. Hence the pride for him, not to mention he's a hell of an athlete. And I'm from Ireland, moved to US.
- Sfenton, on 08/16/2008, -10/+54America! ***** Yeah !!!
(fixed) - stevehanler, on 08/16/2008, -2/+45@TrevorPace - "For all intensive purposes..." The phrase is actually 'For all intents and purposes'
http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Is_the_saying_%27all_int ... - walkea1, on 08/16/2008, -3/+42think about this: Milorad Cavic trained for this his entire life, probably giving up every weekend night of the past four years, eating right, never touching any drugs, and being generally miserable just to train to become the best at this event. He gets to the olympics, all his friends and family are watching, and he loses to a guy who already has 6 other medals by 1/100th of a second!!!!!
damn. - Fragger404, on 08/16/2008, -2/+39I want to see Phelps out eat a dolphin.
- inactive, on 08/16/2008, -0/+37I'm glad you linked that. It really was impossible to tell by watching it. It's great that he pulled it out.
- T440, on 08/16/2008, -1/+37Even she thought he finished second.
- Shuk, on 08/16/2008, -2/+36We on digg use the word 'epic' quite liberally here. We use it to describe smaller things and jokes, but my friends, if there was EVER a time to use the word, it is here.
This race was ***** EPIC, and that was an EPIC WIN! - dawgma, on 08/16/2008, -5/+39I want to see Phelps eat out a dolphin.
- le12484, on 08/16/2008, -10/+42Interesting fact:
Cavic is an American citizen swimming for Yugoslavia. - Sfenton, on 08/16/2008, -6/+36I want to see Phelps ride a dolphin and then eat it.
- harlowsmonkeys, on 08/16/2008, -0/+29Bottle-nosed Dolphins eat about 20 pounds of fish a day. A whole fish is something like 2 calories/gram. (Protein and carbs are 4 cal/gram, and fat is 9 cal/gram, but bone is 0, as is water, which makes up a lot of a fish, which is why the average is something like 2 cal/gram).
That would make 20 points of fish about 18000 calories.
Phelps eats 12000 calories a day, so the Dolphin wins, but I bet that was a lot closer than you expected! - vexingmodstwo, on 08/16/2008, -5/+34SICK
- zspeed78, on 08/16/2008, -4/+33My exgf dated Cavic right before me when we went to Cal.. somehow I feel like he must of put me to shame when it came to endurance...
- kagebutsu, on 08/16/2008, -3/+31***** NBC, stupid ***** won't let anyone show highlights or show it live
- whazdown, on 08/16/2008, -2/+31Well the Serbians have officially dropped their protests so it's all good. Fair play to Cavic (serbian dude who came second) who didn't want to appeal in the first place, graciously accepted the result, pretty manly.
:) - inactive, on 08/16/2008, -19/+47USA! ***** Yeah !!!
- le12484, on 08/16/2008, -23/+49How do they measure by 1/100th of a second? Do they use a detector of some sort?
- SIRBERUS, on 08/16/2008, -5/+30He's also in dire need of a waaaaaambulance.
- SeraphIXI, on 08/16/2008, -0/+25Go Go Gadget Swimming Arms!
- Rickler, on 08/16/2008, -4/+28Amazing! I can't wait to see this happen "LIVE"!
- Fawkes, on 08/16/2008, -0/+24Nice, he won by a jiffy!
- GMTruckClub, on 08/16/2008, -3/+27Of course, what else are they going to do? I'll bet they say that the touchpad was 2/100ths of a second further away for their swimmer. Measure the pool boys.
- fxu1989, on 08/16/2008, -1/+25I want to see Phelps eating while watching a dolphin race
- seraph85, on 08/16/2008, -2/+26I actually did the math - it comes out to 3/4 of an inch ( .77) or just over a finger nail's length... woot!!
- john2kx, on 08/16/2008, -0/+23probably..
don't worry, though, you can always charm her with your great story-telling ability. -
