- twomeyw23334, on 08/16/2008, -0/+53Yeah, but Spitz did it sporting a mustache and a full head of hair.

He deserves a gold for just for style points. - punjab551, on 08/16/2008, -3/+37The look on his mom's face was priceless.

Not mine, just got it from the other thread. - merdiesel, on 08/16/2008, -0/+30I love how you sit in front of your computer and call an Olympic athlete lazy.
- fatlucy101, on 08/16/2008, -5/+31America! ***** yeah!!!!
- aladin, on 08/16/2008, -0/+13Thankyou! You guys always forget about the elusive yet stylish stache.
BTW The Croatian water polo team are bringing it back though. - TheEngineer2008, on 08/16/2008, -2/+13Yeah, people rushed to digg the incomplete stories, while I dugg the complete story from the NBC site that included the Serbian protest and its resolution (i.e., the whole story). I wasn't 20 minutes late.....I was right on time.
- Tyrghast, on 08/16/2008, -1/+10In related news, USA kicked China's ass in men's volleyball.
- KOSmurfy, on 08/16/2008, -1/+8from the article, it sounds like they did look at the footage, and it showed Phelps touching first.
- ginnipig, on 08/16/2008, -2/+9he wasn't lazy he was giving it his all, and he was the one that touched they way coaches tell you too.
- BossKey, on 08/16/2008, -1/+8I keep wondering if she's going to make it through the Games...
- jmpeagle, on 08/16/2008, -2/+9they showed the underwater replay like 5 times on NBC
- wizeguy, on 08/16/2008, -1/+7What the hell. I just watched this on Comcast 10:12 PST on NBC. In the top corner it says LIVE! Bull crap! Man I hate olympic coverage on tv.
This was posted on digg over 2 hours ago. - jp12380, on 08/16/2008, -2/+8Here is the direct link to NBC's video of him winning the 7th

I must say it almost looks like Phelps loses but he doesn't. - Fozfan33, on 08/16/2008, -5/+11one more
- yeahgoggletan, on 08/16/2008, -7/+13epic.
america! - ginnipig, on 08/16/2008, -4/+9in swimming coaches usually tell swimmer not to do a 1/2 stroke to touch the wall as it would be slower, but i guess Phelps is the exception to that rule.
good show Phelps and good luck with the 8th. - arunforce, on 08/16/2008, -2/+7***** is Blastoise.
- lxZanderxl, on 08/16/2008, -1/+6http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/2061/ftwfz5.jpg
FTW. - wm2010russ, on 08/16/2008, -2/+7actually, for michael to take that last mini stroke was very very risky and he was lucky that it won him the race. you are actually supposed to extend your last stroke and reach for the wall, not nearly crash head first into it like michael did.
- JohnnyMarr, on 08/16/2008, -1/+6Sorry. I forgot about Bolt's seven ***** gold medals.
*****. - SirBryce, on 08/16/2008, -9/+14In history, the time difference becomes negligible. The gold medal is what is remembered.
U-S-A! U-S-A! - username7410, on 08/16/2008, -1/+6"The Serbian federation filed a written protest to FINA, swimming's world governing body, contesting the result, but Serbian officials were shown video of the finish and agreed not to pursue it further."
We need "super-slow-mo" of the under water camera... I'm sure that's what they showed the Serbians. - Trickee04, on 08/16/2008, -1/+6actually, it was 9.92.
- inactive, on 08/16/2008, -1/+6There is an electronic touchpad that covers the entire wall, when you see them tap the wall that is actually the pad that stops the clock.
- Djanvk, on 08/16/2008, -1/+6There a touch pads on the walls. You touch it, the clock stops. Thats how they know who won so quick. They were being used when I swam in the late 80's in High school. I'm sure they are even more sensitive now.
- purple, on 08/16/2008, -2/+7http://i35.tinypic.com/dbigdt.gif
He's a beast. - Tddupre, on 08/16/2008, -9/+134 phelps stories on the first page more than iphone and obama combined congrats you win again
- lolwutpear, on 08/16/2008, -0/+4holy *****, he deserves a gold medal just for that
- sniper241, on 08/16/2008, -1/+5Coming to save the ***** day ... yeah!
- stevenk87, on 08/16/2008, -0/+4Yeah, but who ***** cares about those games?
It's absurd that in this day and age, NBC refuses to air events live on the West Coast. Would they delay the Super Bowl because they think they would garner higher ratings in the West Coast if the game was broadcast in primetime? - 420buddah, on 08/16/2008, -0/+41/100th of a second difference.
the times are measured only to the hundredths place, so you can't get more epic than that. - iamnobody8614, on 08/16/2008, -1/+4He won every event he swam in at the 1972 Olympics (the one he got 7 golds in). I'm thinking the stache didn't really hurt him much.
- theduffster89, on 08/16/2008, -4/+7i just cant believe how good this guys is.....is unbelievable
- machocheese34, on 08/16/2008, -0/+3***** yeah
- coopaloop, on 08/16/2008, -1/+4I swear to God it looked like he lost. The eight golds Phelps is going to get easily could have, (and you can make a good argument that it SHOULD have) been 6. First, Lezak swims down the French guy that smoked him the next night at the same distance, and then tonight, Cavic was ahead the entire race and Phelps somehow out touched him at the end. UNBELIEVABLE!!
- KyleGoetz, on 08/16/2008, -0/+3At a previous olympics the gold and silver were cut in half and fused into half-gold-half-silver medals (or maybe they were silver and bronze instead...).
- KyleGoetz, on 08/16/2008, -0/+3NBC showed a more authoritative view than that in their replays seconds later. In your screenshot, Cavic hasn't touched the wall yet and Phelps's hands are about to hit. Phelps's hands aren't experiencing water drag, though. Cavic's are.
- TheRedNewt, on 08/16/2008, -0/+3Supertom: The IOC makes deals with broadcasters from each country to show the events, so NBC only has the rights to do online video within the States as well. Don't blame NBC. Blame the broadcaster from your home country for not doing online streaming like NBC or the IOC for not allowing everyone access.
- zebrapoo, on 08/16/2008, -6/+9LETS GO BABY, YEAH
- username7410, on 08/16/2008, -1/+4I can't tell if your joking or stupid?
- blckt, on 08/16/2008, -0/+3Phelps is pure money
- Iztikeit, on 08/16/2008, -1/+4Phelps was the victor. I'm 100% certain.
- wm2010russ, on 08/16/2008, -1/+3dont be jealous. im sure michael can run a lot better than bolt can swim.
- bitmanx, on 08/16/2008, -0/+2Imagine if he comes back in 4 years...
- jp12380, on 08/16/2008, -1/+3Does anyone have a link to the 100m butterfly on NBC? It does look like they have it on the web.
- BossKey, on 08/16/2008, -0/+2No, it's just like when retards put "BREAKING" on Digg story titles clueless about the fact that in just a few hours it won't be breaking for the rest of the story's life in the Digg archive.
"LIVE" is part of the broadcast and is, unfortunately, recorded to the tape. You'd think they'd have a way of making it a time-sensitive overlay object, given that it's the 21st century and all... - 420buddah, on 08/16/2008, -0/+2look at the tips of Cavic's fingers, and not just his hands flattening out against the wall...then look at Phelps's..it looks like Phelps won because his hands flattened against the wall sooner than Cavic's....but if you compare Cavic's fingertips, and Phelps's hands, then it looks instantaneous...of course it's an electronic stop pad, but .01 is the lowest difference that can possibly be had, so from Cavic's perspective, I'd be looking at least for a tie.
