- johnnick, on 08/21/2008, -25/+386Let me get this straight, the IOC, who awarded the Olympics to a country that censored internet access, faked aspects of the opening ceremonies, built walls to hide certain neighborhoods in Beijing, and is now supposedly arresting people who had the temerity to apply for permits to protest, is upset because Usain Bolt didn't appropriately congratulate his opponents? Perhaps someone needs to get a little perspective.
- espoandy, on 08/21/2008, -7/+283Usain Bolt could not be reached for comment because he was TOO ***** FAST!!
- inactive, on 08/21/2008, -5/+169Bolt didn't do anything nearly as bad as what Phelps did after winning the 200: http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/774511cc7a
- inactive, on 08/21/2008, -9/+165He just did a little jig
It's not like he was"IN YOUR FACE *****!!!" - mannymix03, on 08/21/2008, -3/+130not to mention turned a blind eye to the host country lying about their athlete's ages when there is verified proof that they lied.
- Rammy912, on 08/21/2008, -8/+107He's the fastest man in the world... he gets bragging rights!
- kjcdude, on 08/21/2008, -20/+112***** the IOC!
- AmyVernon, on 08/21/2008, -8/+99Seriously, it's not like he said all his opponents were crap. He's the fastest man in the world, he knew he was gonna win, why not? So long as he's not doping, I don't see the issue.
- djpappas, on 08/21/2008, -3/+74Well said. They've lost the moral authority to make this kind of comment.
- Brasky, on 08/21/2008, -8/+58***** you IOC. Why don't you stop worrying how people celebrate and worry about the host country cheating with younger athletes.
How is what Bolt did any worse than the volleyball girls running all over the place screaming and hugging the crowd with the flag draped all over them? - arnott7, on 08/21/2008, -5/+51good response : http://sports.yahoo.com/olympics/beijing/track_fie ...
IOC is ok with China's broken promises, but ... - Foot56, on 08/21/2008, -4/+48LEAVE BOLT ALONE!
- boardthis, on 08/21/2008, -10/+50correct me if im wrong but i thought having some character is good for sports, especially in the olympics. does it bug anyone else that most athletes are taught to give out cookie-cutter responses and act like a zombie and show no emotion?
good for this guy, ***** the IOC. - dawgma, on 08/21/2008, -3/+38runnin from da law
- DismantleRepair, on 08/21/2008, -19/+53"It ain't bragging if it's true."
Muhammed Ali said that
Back when he was a young man
Back when he was Cassius Clay
Before he fought too many fights
And left his brain inside the ring
And sometimes I wish I was Tiger Woods, Tiger Woods, Tiger Woods... - ssj2119, on 08/21/2008, -4/+35The guy broke 2 world records, you want him to stop his shock and awe to acknowledge the other athletes, who is gonna see anyway? Let him live in the moment man, flippin hell! What are they on about?
"Usain, now c'mon, calm down - don't get too excited now ok? It's not like you broke 2 olympic world records and you're only 21.. just, yeah, keep it down or something"

- sulthernao, on 08/21/2008, -1/+31http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/olympics/ar ...
Finally. Looks like the public pressure has worked. Though I'm still pessimistic that they will do anything about it. - Spudster, on 08/21/2008, -0/+29I think you also forgot the forced relocation of civilians who had their houses demolished for building Olympic stadiums.
- SuperMoses, on 08/22/2008, -1/+27And Bolt has been very respectful before and after his races. Even the commentators were saying how the sport is changing with Bolt because he's shaking hands and joking around with runners BEFORE the race, where before they wouldn't talk and would try to intimidate each other. ***** THE IOC.
I'm upset with the IOC for their inability to control their judges. Why don't they work on that rather than getting on Bolt's case, who everyone seems to love. If you want to see some atrocious judging, don't look any further than the Taekwondo match between Zajc vs Gonda. Seriously, if you're interested in seeing the robbery, go here: http://www.cbc.ca/olympics/ondemand/
Then click on "Sports" > "Taekwondo" > Day 12 Womens - the one that's 11mins 13secs long. - arnmsctt, on 08/21/2008, -2/+26Haters
- GaryChalmers, on 08/21/2008, -2/+25I bet if Michael Phelps did something similar, the IOC wouldn't say *****.
- peoplerstoopid, on 08/21/2008, -0/+21that was ***** awesome...thank you!
- djpappas, on 08/21/2008, -5/+26If the athlete were from the US, the outcry from the world would have matched IOC's response. I don't think it's a big deal either way. In under 20 seconds he's fulfilled four years of training. Celebrate for god's sake.
- tones1, on 08/21/2008, -9/+28This isn't high school, this is the Olympics.
- glucoseboy, on 08/21/2008, -3/+21I saw the race. I didn't see anything disrespectful in Bolt's actions. Sure, they were self-aborbed, "look at me" gestures, but nothing derogatory to the other racers.
- Br3ach, on 08/21/2008, -0/+17Always next time :)
- randomizer82, on 08/21/2008, -2/+18Shouldn't the IOC also be pissed at Michael Phelps for going bonkers after the relay win?
Unfair, much? - nullcodes, on 08/21/2008, -4/+19When you're in the lead you can:
1) Win by a massive margin that will cause embarrassment to the other runners (though negligibly elevate risk of a cramp or other injury).
2) Celebrate on the way to victory, and have a slightly lower margin of victory (as a side benefit reduce your strain injury chances too).
He slowed down so others could have a chance to lose by less ... what a nice guy!
I'll tell you if I was in second place I'd appreciate the slowing down of the first place runner so I don't have to get taunted for losing by a crapload. - cubicledrone, on 08/21/2008, -5/+20Notice how everyone who wins now gets a nice big ration of ***** as a reward?
Funny how the ration of ***** program finds its way into other things too, like jobs.
Makes you really want to go out there and do your best doesn't it? - Philoushka, on 08/21/2008, -0/+15my good what?
- edtrash, on 08/21/2008, -3/+15"I think he should show more respect for his competitors and shake hands, give a tap on the shoulder to the other ones immediately after the finish"
of course, immediately after the finish, the other runners still had 20 meters to run. - mtownand1, on 08/21/2008, -0/+12"That kid's a freak! He's a freak, he's the fastest kid alive!"
- ucbluman, on 08/21/2008, -1/+13what I want to know is... how did so many jamaicans get so good at running short distance sprints?
- kylefsu32, on 08/22/2008, -2/+14Actually its only bragging if it's true! If it's not true, then it's lying.
- rushiku, on 08/21/2008, -0/+105 HUNDRED photos of Usian on the podium? (I assume, I only clicked through the first 20 or so)
Five, as in 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, would be enough, ten is acceptable. 500 far exceeds the WTF factor of Aunt Edna's 5 inch thick photo album containing only pictures of her cat, sleeping. - MScrip, on 08/21/2008, -2/+12I watched it last night. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary. I was a little shocked about wearing the flag... but everyone does it when they win.
And that time he grabbed the camera and looked right in it and said "I'm number one, I'm number one"... he was right.
Good job Usain Bolt! - nullcodes, on 08/21/2008, -0/+10This was posted before the olympics started:

Basically they have a major training emphasis. - dawgma, on 08/21/2008, -9/+18When you win a race in high school.. it's not for the title of FASTEST MAN IN THE WORLD.
There is a difference. - Enfenestrate, on 08/21/2008, -0/+9Did you actually see the guy who got the silver in the 100? As the NBC guys said at the time "you wouldn't know he didn't just win the gold by looking at him." The guy lost it when he got second. It was kinda cool actually. He was so excited; I felt really happy for him
- elmaynardo, on 08/22/2008, -0/+9It's the YAMS
- millsworks, on 08/21/2008, -3/+12The IOC wants to pretend there's no politics involved in the games - nope - never has been - not since 1936. Yeah - right.
It'ts all about politics and it's all about money and it's all about distraction.
All this rubbish about 'decorum' is old school, old hat, fatuous crap. All the other athletes support and celebrate Bolt's achievement. Dickweed IOC complainers - ***** off. The fastest man in the world gets to dance. You don't like it? Out run the ***** - or shut the hell up.
Cheers. - sjaxso, on 08/22/2008, -0/+9Seriously, if you see the side interviews with the guy, he's not being a dick at all. He's happy - his achievement is awesome, and he is enjoying the glow.
If he was a Brit, I can imagine the modest congratulation of opponents, but this is a Jamaican. Vive la difference. He's an inspiration. - Colecoman1982, on 08/21/2008, -0/+9It also has the added side effect of lowering the bar for himself so that the next time he runs the same race he can beat his own world record. Lather, rinse, repeat. By doing that, he creates even more press for himself. It was a smart move.
- callinthelaw69, on 08/21/2008, -1/+9Don't forget the ages of the gymnasts.
- artfiend77, on 08/22/2008, -0/+8*****, don't forget them STEALING Gold from Canada in Tae Kwon Do so the Swede can get beat by China.
- br0ck, on 08/21/2008, -2/+10In big meets in high school the losing athletes that have good sportsmanship make an effort to congratulate the winner instead of all walking away.
- bobfoster, on 08/22/2008, -0/+8Sounds like the IOC president wanted to grab a little spotlight himself. Who cares what he says?
- SuperCujo, on 08/22/2008, -0/+8***** is part of the world language.
