- nelsonjs, on 09/04/2008, -19/+86Please let it be Chicago.
- kwasmosis, on 09/04/2008, -6/+64Chicago's logo is pretty cool, font is very Chicago.
Madrid's is pretty weak, font is not so great. Will give credit for the color choice in the hand and the symbolism of unity.
Rio decided to go with the colors of its nation and not the Olympics, interesting. China did this too. But I don't really get the logo?
Tokyo, wow, probably the strongest logo. It definitely represents their culture and the unity of the Olympics.
Doha and Praha are the weakest logos, could have worked in the 80's.
Baku has a strong presents, even though it is smaller than the top four. - andoru, on 09/04/2008, -1/+54None of these will be the logo for the 2016 Olympics.
These are the logos for the BIDS of applicant cities. When the games are awarded to a city, then an official logo is then drawn up at a later date. The host city does not use it's bid logo as the official logo. - TangentThought, on 09/05/2008, -1/+49I'd take any of those logos over the current London 2012 logo.
- aladin, on 09/05/2008, -7/+38Based purely on logo, I'd give it to Tokyo.
- skabyss, on 09/04/2008, -5/+33They mostly look like OSX icons
- Zippo, on 09/04/2008, -0/+27Good design is good design
- haydesigner, on 09/05/2008, -2/+27@mickstephenson: "Chicago is cold."
Uhhh... in the SUMMER? - mickstephenson, on 09/05/2008, -8/+30Los Angeles 1984, Atlanta 1996, and Salt Lake City in 2002, Don't you think you should give other countries a chance, South America has never hosted an Olympic Games you know, Go Rio. Besides you'd have a better time travelling to Rio to see them, Chicago is cold.
- bxblox, on 09/05/2008, -0/+20Their theme could be "Under Construction"
- kiantech, on 09/05/2008, -2/+20if its in madrid imagine the racist photos that will come from the stands.
- markdr123, on 09/05/2008, -1/+16Well, they're all better than London 2012's one.
- philberttheduck, on 09/05/2008, -0/+15tokyo would be sick
- orukabir, on 09/05/2008, -0/+14If Chicago wins, i hope they go back to the original logo (or design a better one than the current).
Old and new logo: http://www.spudart.org/blog/images/2007/2016-chica ... - evanbooth, on 09/05/2008, -0/+12I agree. Tokyo definitely stands out in this bunch.. followed by Chicago or Praha.
- radsprack, on 09/05/2008, -2/+13You're gay.
- hartley, on 09/05/2008, -0/+10Not to mention the designs would be 8 years old when the Olympics happen then.
- inactive, on 09/05/2008, -0/+10Would prefer to have this rather then the ***** that london has. By god what the ***** where they smoking when the made that and where can i get it.
- inactive, on 09/04/2008, -7/+17Madrid would be cool. I would love to see more of that city on TV
- kevdotbadger, on 09/05/2008, -0/+10I'm really embarrassed by the 2012 logo, what we were thinking?!
- willbb123, on 09/05/2008, -0/+9http://www.geordiesport.com/images/london2012_logo ...
- mickstephenson, on 09/05/2008, -1/+10http://images.encyclopediadramatica.com/images/1/1 ... In Dubai this gets you a month in prison
- Dested, on 09/05/2008, -0/+9I'll digg you up, but im not happy about it.
- shawnanigans, on 09/05/2008, -2/+10Rio has a terrible logo, but it should win. Japan has hosted the Olympics 5 times, Tokyo twice already. The US has hosted 8 times, and Barcelona was in 1992. South America has never had it and its about time they get their due.
- ajames01, on 09/05/2008, -1/+8Tokyo's logo is actually the best IMO. I would like to see the Olympics there in 2016 as well. Sure Chicago would be just as great for other reasons but it just seems more interesting when its held somewhere like Tokyo. We've held the Olympics here recently (i was there in 96') so lets give them a shot.
- Terrk, on 09/05/2008, -5/+12Real ***** orignal Madrid...
- rz8472, on 09/05/2008, -0/+6But who doesn't want a logo that both looks like tangrams on LSD and whose promotional video can cause seizuresx?
- kwasmosis, on 09/04/2008, -2/+8Yeah, but I think their logo is kind of *****. The font they used, and the year in red is weak.
- 000dnj, on 09/05/2008, -0/+6Actually only Chicago, Madrid, Rio de Janiero and Tokyo are still in it. If you want it to be Chicago let your voice be heard, because so far our city is in third out of the four remaining applicants.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016_Summer_Olympics - johnmatias, on 09/05/2008, -1/+7Chicago is one of the few cities to have the Olympics taken from them. Chicago won the right to host the games in 1904, however, the games were moved to St. Louis to coincide with the 1904 Worlds Fair. The games were a disaster, as the fair completely eclipsed the games. Chicago tried 2 more times to host the games for 1952 and 1956, but to no avail.
I think Chicago has proven itself ready to have the honor of hosting the games.
I'm not saying Rio hasn't, I just think Chicago has tried a very long time and it's time our patience was rewarded. - snoogit, on 09/05/2008, -0/+6Did anyone else think the Madrid logo was flipping you off with one giant red middle finger?
- jks15, on 09/05/2008, -2/+7Agree 100%
- haydesigner, on 09/05/2008, -0/+5@BoneStamp: "Did you ever consider that the funding that would go into preparing for the Olympics would make the transportation system better, which means your commute would be easier after a few weeks of Olympic "hell" are over?"
@abarysh2: "You obviously don't live in Chicago."
Seconding what abarysh2 said. The CTA has shown *no* futurethink or foresight as long as I've been alive, so why would anyone presume that they would somehow magically do it for the Olympics? - kimbja98, on 09/05/2008, -0/+5But this is "cool Britannia"! Cultural-type logos will never win over completely wacky designs like ours. It brings back thoughts of being young and some boss or politician etc tries to be "cool" and "engage" with you.
Of course a boring logo would be probably be better, it's hard to support the Olympics when you see this thing attacking your eyes but perhaps we'll all grow to like it? (Or we'll just try and sweep it under the rug once the games are over.) - elanthedon, on 09/04/2008, -5/+10gotta be kidding me, im trying to see the olympics in Compton
- Synova, on 09/05/2008, -4/+9Come on Chicago! I've always wanted to go to an Olympics.
- inactive, on 09/05/2008, -2/+7if it's there consider me attending.
- kellex, on 09/04/2008, -0/+5Very nice work on the logos.
- TheGooseyOne, on 09/05/2008, -2/+7Actually, in all likelihood, none of these will be the 2016 Summer Olympics logo. Candidate cities are barred from using Olympic rings, torches or other Olympic icons in their logos which leads to very minimalistic logos during the candidate phase.
If Chicago wins its bid as is expected, they will mostly likely go back to their torch-themed skyline logo. And it kicks ass. - LucasVB, on 09/05/2008, -0/+4Rio's logo is supposted to be the iconic Corcovado mountain reflected on the sea, so the shape becomes a heart.
- SiliconRain, on 09/05/2008, -0/+4Baku has already been eliminated from the running, as of June 4th 2008.
According to Wikipedia, anyway... - bananasluggy, on 09/05/2008, -3/+7The Tokyo one looks like it came from a pack of printer paper...
- PopcornDave, on 09/05/2008, -0/+4Or half the team could dress up like matadors and skewer the other half of the team.
- abarysh2, on 09/05/2008, -1/+5You obviously don't live in Chicago.
- nonregulator, on 09/05/2008, -3/+7Yeah I'm pretty sure the Spanish Basketball teams torpedoed that.
As a person of Asian Decent I 100% think they should be penalized in consideration for that boneheaded racism. - josepablos, on 09/05/2008, -2/+6Praha rocks!
- RAGEdemon, on 09/05/2008, -0/+3The Rio logo is absolutely gorgeous.
- radsprack, on 09/05/2008, -0/+3That's a really dumb aside.
- johnnyfoto11, on 09/05/2008, -0/+3Correct: http://www.beijingsummer.com/images/BeijingBid0.jp ...
- rkiga, on 09/05/2008, -1/+4Am I the only one who thinks the Tokyo logo is horrible? The pictogram part looks dated and umm "chocolatey" or something. It's what would be on the packaging of an M&Ms wrapper during the Christmas of 1989. And it really clashes with the typeface.
Chicago's torch logo is REALLY damn cool. This star one is nice too. Cool, retro feel to it. -
