- ButtSmudge, on 08/25/2008, -2/+46No offense to the Londoners, but can your mayor look any more sloppy? He looks like he's late for a cabinet meeting. He was constantly putting his hands in his suit jacket's pockets. Seriously Boris, at least button up your suit.
- strevoir, on 08/25/2008, -1/+43The part of David Beckham kicking a ball was totally lame.
- inactive, on 08/25/2008, -2/+34After the unbelievable performances China put on, the London handover performance was umm... pretty amateur to say the least. I don't think anyone is expecting London to put on a show as epic as China, but what was presented was inexcusable in my opinion. England has an extremely rich history and culture. Surely there's more they can showcase to the world besides a reality TV pop singer, old guitarist, David ***** Beckham, and a double decker bus.
- bitterscream, on 08/25/2008, -0/+22Sounds like the American tv industry.
- Nautikus, on 08/25/2008, -0/+21This Olympic games were a truly spectacular event all the way from opening to closing ceremonies.
- julielynn1009, on 08/24/2008, -0/+20These are outstanding! Although I sometimes get frustrated over the over-emphasis placed on the opening and closing ceremonies, I know that actually being there to see it would be breathtaking.
- GinaJuice, on 08/25/2008, -1/+20London is going to have a hell of a time trying to top Beijing.
- ninjarabbits, on 08/25/2008, -0/+17You let Beckham kick your balls?
- DaviDTC, on 08/25/2008, -0/+16Holy ***** pic #9 is from south park. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/7/79/IT_( ...
- ChristophyBrown, on 08/25/2008, -3/+15Was anybody else like "is that Jackie Chan!?!?!??"
- inactive, on 08/25/2008, -6/+18FINALLY IT'S OVER! WE CAN WATCH CONAN AGAIN!!
- DatruKatalyst, on 08/25/2008, -1/+13The London Handover reminded me of those crummy American Superbowl half-time shows.
The beginning felt like Cirque du Soleil and some questioning if Zhang Yimou went a bit loopy while planning - but I'm just gonna believe that it was to start the ceremony as a festival/party.
The Memory Tower was awesome. =) And I'm glad they got all the celeb singers in on it! Recognized most of 'em. - BossKey, on 08/25/2008, -0/+10I guess the point of the crazy little demo London did there was to set expectations low enough that they can beat them.
- darkchild82, on 08/24/2008, -1/+11Well I wasn't expecting it to be the spectacle the Opening ceremony was but hey - Jimmy Page came out performed "Whole lotta Love"! (Unfortunately, it was "Whole lotta Love" sung by Leona Lewis and not Robert Plant. Pics -> http://www.aol.com.au/sport/gallery/n-london-hand- ... ) Oh well, doesn't hurt to still hope for a Zeppelin reunion tour.
- colosis, on 08/25/2008, -0/+10london will have a tough time topping the 08 olympics.
- beamster, on 08/25/2008, -0/+10Zing!
- mambanamba, on 08/25/2008, -1/+10better than spending it on the iraq war like the US
- BossKey, on 08/25/2008, -0/+8"And we would have gotten away with more gold, if it wasn't for you medaling kids..."
- blaze03, on 08/25/2008, -0/+8Jesus the london handover was embarrassing to watch. I think it might just have been the startling contrast between China's rich cultural/historical showcase versus London trying to show off the "cool britannia" or whatever the ***** that 90s movement was. Hopefully they show off more of England's history when the time comes...
I just think that London 2012's whole marketing campaign is a huge pile of fail...I threw up a little in my mouth after seeing that logo again for the first time in months - masterkenobi, on 08/25/2008, -0/+8UK? Their opening ceremony will only comprise of a 10 minute rugby match in the middle of the stadium, then they'll serve biscuits and tea afterwords.
- Prathik89, on 08/25/2008, -0/+7Man I loved it when the tower with all those performers produced those red roses. Has to up there with the Countdown of the Opening Ceremony.
- BossKey, on 08/25/2008, -0/+7You know, sometimes it feels like the only thing missing from the Chinese Olympics ceremonies is a big-ass Star Destroyer slowly rumbling into view over the stadium.
- Zaggynl, on 08/25/2008, -0/+7finish him!
- jeebodon, on 08/25/2008, -2/+9They forgot George Lucas singing at the end!
http://trylobyte.files.wordpress.com/2008/08/olym_ ... - fenderdude3, on 08/25/2008, -1/+8I sometimes hold ceremonies like that in my pants
- avatarpalin, on 08/25/2008, -0/+6Page Axing "Whole Lotta Love" Hmmm one has to wonder if someone british organiser went "China are so stuffed up lets get Page down there, with his axe, get some hot bit of tottie and get em to sing a song about a man wantin' to roger a bird 'ard and fast"
--- Yeah I am looking forward to 2012!! - BossKey, on 08/25/2008, -0/+6Wow, Jackie Chan is Chinese...who knew
- Jennefah, on 08/25/2008, -0/+6When you include the histories of all the countries of the UK (Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland as well as England), I agree with you. I'm hoping that there's an equal input from all of the UK in preparing for the games since as far as I'm aware, it's the UK hosting the games and not just England. Might be wrong though.
- koldmilk, on 08/25/2008, -0/+6double Zing!
- tomazws, on 08/25/2008, -0/+6I wonder if the singings echos in live... or is it just NBC? It was looooong... and kinda boring at times. The tower with the 2008 running-man-logo was a nice surprise.
- danshilcock, on 08/25/2008, -1/+6That's exactly why we love him
- nedzeve, on 08/25/2008, -0/+5Not as good as the opener, but better than Ashley Simpson at the Orange Bowl.
- zephyrnug, on 08/25/2008, -0/+5yes, it was in fact jackie chan. turn up your volume next time and listen to the commentators.
- sonycam, on 08/25/2008, -1/+6Yeah, we were fed up of slimey politicians, he's a bit of a daft ***** but that's why we like him.
- vinibinini, on 08/25/2008, -0/+5*gasp* He must be part of a cloning ring!
Tell the President
No Better.... tell Adam West - inchino, on 08/25/2008, -0/+5it is actually because GB don't have a football team, England, N.Ireland, Scotland and Wales all have separate teams.
we don't have a GB team. - zephyrnug, on 08/25/2008, -0/+5explain. anyone else see obscenities from jimmy page?
- Frazzlet, on 08/25/2008, -0/+5The organisers of 2012 just seem to be focused on embarrassment. From the logo to this stupid "ITS OKAY! WE ARE DOWN WITH THA KIDS!!"
And they just will not listen to the complaints. - poopmaster, on 08/25/2008, -0/+5Triple Zing!
- HunterKiller, on 08/25/2008, -0/+5When I started to see that London bus open up.. my immediate thought was.."Damn, a British Transformer!!!"... Then after 10-15 seconds, I was sorely disappointed.
- inactive, on 08/25/2008, -2/+6The ceremonies were all top quality till they brought out the British float that looked like something out of a small town 4th of july parade.
- waltpsu, on 08/25/2008, -3/+7The closing ceremonies was great...except for the London part. Could anybody understand a word Leona Lewis was singing? At first I thought it was in Chinese.
- mambanamba, on 08/25/2008, -2/+6that was the best olympics ever. i don't remember any past olympics even though i'm sure i watched them, but ill remember this one.
- mnsisgreen, on 08/25/2008, -0/+4The performers and the whole english part was like some avant-garde 70's movie with abstract dancers coreographed by andy warhol. They even had a politically corect fake weel chair dude, how can you go wrong with that?
- tim04, on 08/25/2008, -0/+4ya...nobody cares anymore. give it a rest.
- HunterKiller, on 08/25/2008, -0/+4Umm.. suppose we build a large wooden badger...
- DatruKatalyst, on 08/25/2008, -0/+4I actually meant you're comment was a really good cross analogy!
- mambanamba, on 08/25/2008, -1/+4who cares if he looks sloppy as long as he gets the job done
- beamster, on 08/25/2008, -0/+3Score 1 for the pogo-stilts in pic #4. (Pogo-stilts=want) http://video.google.com/videosearch?q=Powerisers&h ...
And 1 for those kick-ass innycycles at #10. - viciv, on 08/25/2008, -2/+5the fireworks were stunning, but the closing ceremony was not as good as the opening ceremony... kinda disappointing
