- tjasond, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6That's gotta be at least his third username today. I guess since myspace closed him down he's migrated over to blogspot. Is there a way to ban IP's?
- mikesbaker, on 10/12/2007, -11/+1no ***** that ftard needs to get a life. who hasn't seen loose change. and 9/11 conspiracy is such yesterdays news. either you are stupid enough to believe it and you do or you aren't and you don't.

- sdrawkcaB, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Digg so people who do run blogs can see. As visitors we should at least point them towards help.
- neuromute, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Dugg, but I don't think I needed a video to figure this out. Maybe other people do.
- mooninite, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Viagra, Valium, Lorazepam, Cialis, Xanax, Meridia, Lipitor, Zoloft, Celebrex, Soma
... and how!- abid786, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6More annoying is the spam I get:
V1agra, Va7ium, C1al1s, etc... - merreborn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I tried to post a comment like that on TFA for kicks. It got filtered. The system works!
- abid786, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6More annoying is the spam I get:
- MaxwellEPad, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Akismet is probably the best plugin ever ... but it already comes with every wordpress install, so not sure who's learning something here (unless it's also available for other blogs). Dugg because Akismet is cool.
- lo0ol, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Agreed. Akismet also has a lot of other uses, though, and they offer a lot of resources for a multitude of languages and implementations. And Akismet is really good: "Akismet has protected your site from 14235 spam comments." That's with maybe 30-50 misses since I installed it. I'm definitely a fan.
- prammy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yup. I love akismet. Though on my blog, I do require that the first comment by a visitor is approved by me before they are allowed to post.
Every month, I love going to the admin panel and seeing Akismet has block 300-400 messages :-) - airjrdn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm using the PHP4 class w/Akismet, but where do I go to see the ones it thought were spam?
- spyrochaete, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've been running WordPress with Akismet for just a couple of months now. I didn't even realize it had blocked spam comments until I checked manually. It stopped about 25 spams while allowing about 8 legitimate comments - one of which was smarmy with all kinds of fake HTML tags.
I love Akismet so far. It'd be nice if you didn't have to make an account for it to work, but so far it's been well worth it.
- SilverGinger5, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21Is there any way this information can be used to get rid of that 9/11 conspiracy theory lunatic who has been spamming digg for about 14 hours now?
- merreborn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7It'd be nice if there was a "report" feature for individual comments, so you could report spamming and trolling.
- eggo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Not to mention the wet dream he is having reading you guys talking about him...
- foobar5892, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1You can't have a wet dream when you're lucid (ie: reading something), champ.
- verifex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Now we need to know how to stop idiots from spamming diggs comment system. :( I know we are going to lose some features if those jerks don't stop it.
- Pic0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Funny to hear this nerd voice talk.
- Stantastic, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0I definately Digg Akismet. It is my blog's savior. IdeaThunderdome [dotcom]. Good point about newer releases already having the plugin installed. For those too lazy to upgrade, definately recommended for WordPress.
- headzoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I think some simple step-by-step instructions on getting your API key would have been better, than a video. Ten seconds to read step-by-step instructions vs. a long video? What would you choose?
- tomi, on 10/12/2007, -9/+1Are you not performing well in bed? We've got the solution for you! Click here to learn about Viagra and all the wonders it can do you!
- eliburford, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well I know for a fact that Akismet is very useful. It very rarely catches a legitimate comment and so far it's been through about 2.5k spam comments for me.
So yeah, this article (video) will be useful for people who run WordPress and don't have spam protection. - coheedcollapse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It catches many, but not all. Every once and a while an obvious spammer will be let through and pound my site with his crap messages. It's also never caught a legit comment as far as I know (not like I could really keep track with the ridiculous number of spam comments I get a day).
Spammers make me wish that I could strangle people through the internet. Their total disregard for the work that people put into their personal web pages pisses me off to no end. - Hagane, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Whatever happened to just using captcha's?
- eggo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Unfortunately, spammers are almost indistinguishable from normal humans. There could be a spammer in the room with you and you might not know it.
- DanAtkinson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Well... Apart from all the spam that surrounds them. And even then they could just be from Hawai.
- masterofshadows, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1spammers occasionally pay people to solve captchas for them. thus you need a combination of efforts to defeat spam, heuristics + registration + captcha seems to be a fairly useful method and as such its quite popular, however the more you do the more you alienate your users, its quite difficult to combat spam and have users who want to contribute.
- johnhummel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Is there a similar plug-in for phpnuke? I'm getting ready to set up a new religion site, and the last thing I need is tons of "naked girls love pagans" or "viagra for buddhists!" spam.
- patik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Perhaps that's *exactly* what you need.
- RevoltPuppy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1It's for WordPress only, and judging by that tutorial, it looks like you'll be lifting a lot more than one finger.
- airjrdn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's not for Wordpress only, it just requires a free Wordpress account.
RTFA - DanAtkinson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2As airjrdn mentioned, it's not just for WordPress. There are loads of ports out there which enable Akismet to be used on a large number of blog software through the API.
Here is a list of implementations of Akismet, including (but definitely not limited to) MT, Drupal and Coppermine. There are also .NET (1.1 & 2) and PHP (4 & 5) classes:
http://akismet.com/development/
So there! - spyrochaete, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Since installing it with default options I haven't had to lift one finger to keep Akismet working at 100% accuracy.
- airjrdn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's not for Wordpress only, it just requires a free Wordpress account.
- calebcharles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think my new year's resolution is to Block Digg users as fast as they irritate me. That's right. I am going on a Blocking Binge TM. And in maybe a few months time I will revisit some of these Blocked Blokes in my blocked users area and reinstate them? If I care? Probably not. Blocking Binge (TM) Hoooo!!!!!
- dkm201, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's too bad you can't share blocklists. Mine is frigging awesome.
- gonzoradio, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1It's an ad for Akismet. Why are we digging it? Not enough actual news going on?
- krunk4ever, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2this has been available in every version of WordPress since v2.0 or maybe even earlier.
- CeeJayDK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm willing to bet that at least some of the viewers of the video is just going to use his key since it's clearly visible.
- ubuwalker31, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Supercharge your blog’s earnings with Text Link Ads!! Go fck urself tubetorial. Marked as Spam.
- goodbeershow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1works nicely.........dugg
- MarketingVideos, on 02/20/2008, -0/+1I stopped all my comment spam for my Wordpress blog by using "Comment Bot Nuker". All the other plugins I tried for Wordpress only holds the comment spam from moderation. I tried them all even the "add math" and Askimet. Most all the comment spam you will get is actually from the bots that scour the Internet looking for security breaches. Using Comment Bot Nuker it nukes the comments before it is even held for moderation and lets the good comments through. So there is nothing to moderate. I don't have to go through hundreds of comments held for moderation anymore. I foudn it here:
