- Floydian08, on 03/25/2009, -6/+509Apparently a ticket is more significant and a higher priority than human life.
Protect then serve, or serve then protect? Who hires the nut jobs? - imacommi, on 03/25/2009, -7/+377Cop should be liable in a wrongful death suit. If not the cop then the county/state that hired him. I've seen a lot of these types of stories on here lately and it makes me sick.
- ravedigger, on 03/25/2009, -6/+345Why does the law enforcement profession attract so many *****?
- obliviousfool, on 03/25/2009, -19/+300Why did the kid stop?
- inactive, on 03/25/2009, -10/+267Stupid cop!
- Destrider, on 03/26/2009, -15/+250In the US you are 8 times more likely to be killed by a cop than a terrorist. Why isn't a war on cops?

- wishninja, on 03/25/2009, -16/+193For two years at a tech school:
*you get to do whatever the ***** you want break laws bully other people without any consequences.
*you get to carry a gun
*you get paid $25/hr to sit on your ass and drive around and work if you feel like it
*free take home car with free gas and free insurance
*you get to retire in 20 years
yea I see how that could attract a lot of *****, lazy bastards, and dickless wonders. - redgiemental, on 03/25/2009, -2/+158With the way this cop was acting hee might have shot at them.
***** maniac. - Evermin7, on 03/25/2009, -3/+153I would have gone for the hospital... The fact that you are a police person does not excuse your immorality in relation to human decency.
- Kronos6948, on 03/26/2009, -17/+145Not that I disagree, but I have to add:
*You get to deal with every low life scum on the earth, from burglars to child rapists
*You get to deal with ***** who think that it's OK to drive drunk
*You get to deal with people who feel that they don't deserve a ticket for running a red light, and proceed to berate you for it.
Being a cop isn't all coffee and donuts. - seantubridy, on 03/26/2009, -2/+128What kid? The guy looks like he's in his 50's. Watch the video.
- slugpellet63, on 03/26/2009, -1/+114The police spokesman pontificated on whether there were "training issues" that need to be identified - can basic human decency be taught?
- RicardoWilliams, on 03/25/2009, -4/+114tax dollars hard at work....
- timberfish, on 03/26/2009, -0/+107Expired tags? I was expecting to hear he ran a red-light or stop sign. Common sense would lead you to believe the cop would have escorted them 1 mile to the hospital and written the ticket (if he had to be an *****) at the hospital after she was admitted.
- GovernmentsGun, on 03/25/2009, -5/+102Government, putting revenue over human life.
- faskippy, on 03/26/2009, -3/+91There is no way in hell I would even pull over if I was taking my Mother to the hospital because she was having breathing problems. I hate to say this, and God bless this poor man, but that was just ignorant. You would see a chase, with me on the phone to the ER, telling them to be waiting outside for us when I pull up, because as soon as I stop, I'm getting arrested. The hell with the damn police in this case. You get your Mother help, and sort the rest out later.
The cop? Well, I'd make his life a living hell till my dying day. - 3drage, on 03/26/2009, -6/+79Pig
- gompers, on 03/26/2009, -0/+69If it were my mom, there's no question that cop would have been left in the dust.
- inactive, on 03/25/2009, -6/+75he need to make his quota that bad?
- LuCiFer6, on 03/26/2009, -0/+60This is just sad; I can't image going through the rest of my life knowing that mother died this way. My heart goes out to the son and his family...
- InetRoadkill, on 03/26/2009, -3/+63This story has been floating around the last couple of days. Was the ***** cop ever identified? He needs to get full credit for his actions.
- lennybird, on 03/26/2009, -0/+59I feel bad for the son. Condolences.
- inactive, on 03/26/2009, -3/+61Cops in my neighborhood have taken to giving frivolous tickets to prevent any more Cops getting laid off.
Hope that lady haunts him - inactive, on 03/26/2009, -11/+67I said it once if not more Cops are just a legalized city gang
- lostsymphonies1, on 03/26/2009, -2/+57***** are hungry for power, being a cop provides the ultimate power to an *****
- ThePastafarian, on 03/26/2009, -2/+54For a same reason there isn't a war on cars.
- cowsgonemadd3, on 03/26/2009, -0/+46I never would have stopped.
- inactive, on 03/26/2009, -1/+46The world would be MUCH better off without cops like the ones in this story.
- endustry, on 03/26/2009, -0/+45I think the problem is that some cops simply do not view citizens as people. They're something else. Something lesser than cops.
- Yez70, on 03/26/2009, -0/+43It wasn't safer for his mother.
- arcangelgabriel, on 03/26/2009, -2/+44As a long time brother police officer let me just say this.
Deputy, you are ***** stupid. Get off the road and get behind a desk, you'll save more people there.
Jesus H ***** Christ. - mikelieman, on 03/26/2009, -1/+40How about a prison cell for manslaughter instead?
- inactive, on 03/26/2009, -0/+38Because the glamorized security guard was on a power trip to write the guy a ticket.
- Zapple, on 03/26/2009, -1/+36*****, then what are my chances against terrorist cops?
- NigelSheldon, on 03/26/2009, -8/+41Anon should have their way with him
- Khast, on 03/26/2009, -2/+35Okay, I know there are good police officers out there....
However, this cop should be banned from Dunkin' Donuts for life. - inactive, on 03/26/2009, -0/+33True statement, but don't kid yourself into thinking that it only applies to cops. Government at any level cares more about your money than they do you.
- SpinningHead, on 03/26/2009, -0/+33This will make you mad:
METRO NEWS BRIEFS: CONNECTICUT; Judge Rules That Police Can Bar High I.Q. Scores
A Federal judge has dismissed a lawsuit by a man who was barred from the New London police force because he scored too high on an intelligence test.
In a ruling made public on Tuesday, Judge Peter C. Dorsey of the United States District Court in New Haven agreed that the plaintiff, Robert Jordan, was denied an opportunity to interview for a police job because of his high test scores. But he said that that did not mean Mr. Jordan was a victim of discrimination.
Judge Dorsey ruled that Mr. Jordan was not denied equal protection because the city of New London applied the same standard to everyone: anyone who scored too high was rejected.
Mr. Jordan, 48, who has a bachelor's degree in literature and is an officer with the State Department of Corrections, said he was considering an appeal. ''I was eliminated on the basis of my intellectual makeup,'' he said. ''It's the same as discrimination on the basis of gender or religion or race.'' - mrseptic, on 03/26/2009, -3/+35Then we'd be reading an article about cops shooting you, then tasering your sick mom.
- ScottMitchell, on 03/26/2009, -0/+31What sucks worse? Being thrown to the ground and cuffed, or having your mom die while you sit at the side of the road waiting for an ambulance?
- slainbyte, on 03/26/2009, -0/+31You know, you see stories similar to this all the time. I'm certainly not a brilliant person by any means, but here a policy suggestion for all police departments:
If you pull someone over who is not visibly inebriated, that says they are going to the hospital for an emergency, escort them there no matter what. Deal with the traffic violation *later*. That is of course, unless you are also a doctor, capable of making an educated medical determination at the scene... - Langford, on 03/26/2009, -0/+30It makes me sad the cop didn't let them go on, this is another one of those situations where they cause pain due to being afraid of potential liability.
After hearing about this, in a similar situation I think that perhaps I just wouldn't stop for the cop. I'm not saying that lawlessness is the answer, but if it comes down to a family member's life, I might be tempted to just pretend I didn't see the blinking lights for that last mile to the hospital. - wishninja, on 03/26/2009, -3/+32All I want is accountability. Why is it a sin to criticize the police? They hide behind the blue wall every time something happens or a mistake was made all the cops gather around making excuses and justify it inside their "internal investigations".
I am sick of the double standard, the two tier justice system, one for you and one for blue. I am sick of civil rights violations being ok as long as evidence isn't in jeopardy. Pretext stops, racial profiling, street searches, showing my papers, quotas, lack of respect it all has to go. - kingUssop, on 03/26/2009, -0/+26What was he going to do? The cop would have escalated into an all out war if he drove off. Some of these cops are so aggro there's nothing you can do right if they step in to screw with you. Officer should be dismissed from his job that's for sure.
- joshblufs, on 03/26/2009, -0/+26Well if you stop and explain to a cop that your sick mother is dying and in need of medical attention you generally expect them to help. Giving them an escort to the hospital seems like what any decent cop would have done. Hell you can always write him a ticket at the hospital.
If this cop keeps his job lets hope he learns a lesson from this. It would be hard to forget with all this press. - wishninja, on 03/25/2009, -1/+27The mayor needs more revenue.
- bowlagoat, on 03/26/2009, -1/+26This is a terrible example of what can happen when adherence to policy overrides personal judgment.
http://www.ted.com/talks/barry_schwartz_on_our_los ... - Rainemaker, on 03/26/2009, -2/+26One of these stories came out a while back where someone was driving crazily, trying to get to the hospital because passenger was dying. The person was pulled over, and if I remember correctly, the passenger died. The two sides of the argument on that story was, despite having a dying passenger, you are not entitled to put others lives at risk by driving so crazily as to indeed put others lives at risk.
All that said, this guy got stopped for a expired tag? ***** bad call. Bad call I say. - big90burban, on 03/26/2009, -9/+32Ok, all you loyal diggers and people with computer skills and the ability to find out information... go forth, find the ***** responsible, and make his life a living hell.
