This completely explains why you feel like ads for technology products/software/etc. are speaking to idiots. They are. - Ragecloak, on 06/23/2009, -6/+413Retards
A browser is a series of tubes - ariez84, on 06/24/2009, -4/+357"My friend came over uninstall every browser and installed firefox and said youre using this from now on".
Im pretty sure hes talking about me :o I've done it on almost everyone computer that ever asked me "Fix my computer". That and locking down EVERYTHING where the user cant install jack *****.
And yes its true you cant uninstall IE, but you can certainly disable it and render it useless. ;) - Brak710101, on 06/24/2009, -2/+299Haha, I love the guy that said his friend came over and deleted everything else and told him he going to use Firefox.
It seems mean, but it's the only way to keep most people safe. We have to do it, I do it to everyone that ever has a computer issue. - Zippo, on 06/23/2009, -2/+291It's ***** like this that makes Microsoft giggle with glee.
- philkav, on 06/24/2009, -0/+241Does anyone else see that? ^
- sebconn, on 06/24/2009, -5/+190It doesn't surprise me, but it still fills me with rage. After 15 years of home internet access I don't see that there's any excuse not to know this, it's simple ignorance and an unwillingness to learn. The really sad thing is half of these people probably have jobs that require them to be computer literate. These days computer literate seems to mean having the ability to call up a support technician and ask mundane questions that waste time.
/rant
yes, I'm a frustrated sysadmin. - oboy, on 06/24/2009, -2/+173I was inspired by the guy who said his friend came over and removed all other browsers from his computer to force him to use Firefox. The moral of the story:
"Friends don't let friends use Internet Explorer." - scriptcoder, on 06/23/2009, -19/+184Regular people don't know the exact definition of "browser".
Holy *****. - RegularUser, on 06/24/2009, -2/+162Browser is a computer program where you digg stuff.
- SpeedSteamBoat, on 06/24/2009, -4/+150Forget about the exact definition. They didn't even know that it was a piece of software.
- inactive, on 06/22/2009, -31/+172Dugg for Hot Chicks
- tgc1, on 06/24/2009, -0/+140Yes. WTF?!
- chubbstar, on 06/24/2009, -2/+140ive done this to people i care about. friends dont let friends use IE.
- Larssonk22, on 06/24/2009, -0/+119", 3 hr 46 min ago, -0/+1Quick! Roll the cheese away!"
LOL, what?!?! - tkcom, on 06/24/2009, -12/+129I'm now officially ashamed to be human.
- wily6, on 06/24/2009, -1/+118But then there are those people that still insist to use IE because they don't want to "learn" how to use Firefox.
- SpeedSteamBoat, on 06/24/2009, -6/+121A browser is more analogous to a steering wheel or the climate controls in your car than a spark plug or a carburetor (which aren't even in modern cars, btw). It's not like your asking them how pages get moved around the stack so the software can access data in memory or something. You're asking them to name something they likely use every single day. It's a little ridiculous that people don't take the time to learn even the most basic things about the technology they use all the time, like what things are called.
- ELiTe185, on 06/24/2009, -1/+112Dude, nobody knew what a browser was because everyone who did know was inside using one.
- t0ny, on 06/23/2009, -1/+104Dugg for the drunk santa guy.
- hookback, on 06/24/2009, -0/+94It means Digg is broken! Run!
- colasrtney, on 06/24/2009, -0/+92Like the guy who setup one Firefox icon on his mom's desktop labeled "The Internet".
- Schmich, on 06/23/2009, -5/+95Internet Explorer is the internetz! No but seriously that's one of the bigger reasons why IE has such dominance. People don't understand that you can access the web with other applications/browsers. Microsoft was VERY clever calling their browser INTERNET Explorer. I would have rather seen the E.U. demand Microsoft to change the name of IE to something that does not include the word Internet in it. Instead of that retarded command/order to Microsoft of not having them ship their OWN browser in their OWN operating system...
I'm also quite surprised that Google didn't give a very simple message in their Chrome ads that IE is not the only way to access the internet. - denizen42, on 06/24/2009, -0/+82This is clearly Kevin's fault.
- rchargel, on 06/23/2009, -3/+83You can't expect anyone in Times Square to know anything. "Browser, is that somebody who spends all day at the three story Virgin music store?" What browser do you use? I use Google. Really, trying typing "define: browser" into Google and see what you get.
- Aroundtown27, on 06/24/2009, -0/+76Just now?
- geoken, on 06/23/2009, -1/+76Actually you're incorrect. The internet is a series of tubes. A browser is a water meter.
- Khanvalescent, on 06/24/2009, -21/+95As nerds (to varying degrees), we digg users may find the misuse of such terminology horrifying, but it is a common malady of disinterested users in all types of activities.
Many people drive cars for their entire lives and couldn't tell you the difference between a carburetor and a spark plug.
There is no need to call them idiots. - primatage, on 06/23/2009, -13/+86i weep for the internets.
- blankis, on 06/24/2009, -2/+71koopa*
+5 ***** points - Hetman, on 06/23/2009, -5/+70When I read the discritption that is exactly what I was thinking. The fascist leader of the kupa kingdom.
- OneRottenTomato, on 06/24/2009, -0/+63What exactly was Santa in the middle of doing where he needed to pull his pants up for this interview?
- einrobstein, on 06/23/2009, -17/+75So google is promoting their inability to promote their browser? Also, firefox>chrome. It's all about the Adblock.
- Xugg, on 06/24/2009, -2/+58I installed firefox on my moms labtop and she couldn't wrap her head around the fact her internet wasn't gone when I replaced her IE icons.
- NeddieSeagoon, on 06/24/2009, -1/+55It's someone who examines the merchandise without making a purchase.
- inactive, on 06/24/2009, -1/+53But everyone uses google and yahoo, not IE.
- sgtfuzzy, on 06/24/2009, -1/+47No wonder so many people leave all the boxes for toolbars and stuff like that checked. Whenever I use my parents computer there are always so many retarded things on their browser window.
- Gizza, on 06/24/2009, -3/+47An IQ test should be a requirement for a lot of things, including, but not limited to driving and reproducing.
- blechler, on 06/23/2009, -12/+53I have always been a strong proponent of the idea that an IQ test should be required before people are allowed to use a computer.
- FTWmovin2canada, on 06/24/2009, -6/+46@Khanvalescent - I was with you up until "no need to call them idiots". IMO not knowing what browser you're using is essentially the equivalent of not knowing the the make of your car. Either way ignorance isn't an excuse.
- SpeedSteamBoat, on 06/24/2009, -0/+35Sadly, knowing it was a computer program would already put you way out ahead of most of these people.
- kashem, on 06/24/2009, -0/+35True. Most of the office dolts in my area just refer to IE as The Internet. They just know that if they double-triple click the stupid icon, they get their content.
- rightmindx, on 06/24/2009, -0/+34More like a water faucet.
- Xanias, on 06/24/2009, -0/+33What is that "software" thing you speak of?
- uknowwhoibe, on 06/24/2009, -0/+33wat
- FFandMMfan, on 06/24/2009, -3/+35Dugg for stoned Santa.
- Larssonk22, on 06/24/2009, -0/+32A browser, can you define that?
Me? -
