- ligyron, on 10/27/2008, -5/+228Not Amazon's fault. Customers tag products and the more votes that tag gets by other customers, the more priority it is given. Here are the tags the McCain mask has:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/tags-on-product/B ... - AMD64MM, on 10/28/2008, -10/+205My question is, why were you searching for a terrorist costume...
- d2002, on 10/27/2008, -36/+219A comment from the reviews *sigh* :
"This is for sure a scary mask knowing what he would do to this country with his socialism and radicalism. OMG P.S. HE WILL RAISE ALL TAXES. WE PAY ENOUGH FOR WELFARE, WHY SHOULD WE HAND MONEY OVER TO SOMEONE WHO PAYS NO TAXES. WE ALREADY PAY THEIR SHARE AND THEN WE HAVE TO HAND THEM MORE. NO NO NO." - MeatPlow, on 10/27/2008, -14/+163Something. Something. Something. Dark Side.
Something. Something. Something. Obama. - jaidgrifter, on 10/27/2008, -13/+151Hi:
I am an online marketer and I'm here to say that Amazon shouldn't be blamed for what happened with the mask listing. When you sign up to become an Amazon Marketplace vendor, all you do is pay a monthly fee and upload your merchandise to the site. Vendors typically upload information including photos, descriptions, meta tags, prices, etc.
ANYONE could have uploaded this listing before it was reported to Amazon techs.
I'm really surprised that more people haven't come out in defense of Amazon.com. I mean, they set up their marketplace to allow honest vendors to sell their stuff with as much ease as possible - and they're cheaper and MUCH more responsive to work with versus other companies like eBAY.
This was the act of a single merchant/person inputting the information. People should just chill out. - d2002, on 10/27/2008, -3/+117Here's a screenshot in case someone at Amazon fixes this overnight:
http://i38.tinypic.com/20zcjuo.jpg - JoeF8577, on 10/27/2008, -2/+91some one needs to shoe you how to spell.
- binchaud, on 10/27/2008, -36/+124Those damn republicans ... they've taken over Amazon too!
Deploy shields digg ... deploy the freakin' shields!!!! - kjd84, on 10/28/2008, -7/+92If it was a George Bush mask you'd forgive them for it.
- 15thPD, on 10/28/2008, -3/+77This is just a shot in the dark, but maybe because Halloween is less than a week away? Who knows.
- otakushark, on 10/27/2008, -35/+106The ***** who posted this only commented on two products on Amazon--both Obama masks. Mark down his review and report it as inappropriate to Amazon.
- glasnt, on 10/27/2008, -23/+86It now shoes McCain's mask
- otakushark, on 10/27/2008, -22/+84Not sure why it didn't come up the first time, but this person does have some other reviews. Judging from the products and her comments, she's a 45+ woman (who should know better). She dissed the Bush Countdown Calendar as "liberal sour grapes", so she's clearly a hardcore Republican who falls into that roughly 19-25% of morons who still think he's doing a bang-up job.
- mmittimm, on 10/28/2008, -8/+58Now it shows a McCain mask.
- verivalta, on 10/28/2008, -4/+52@ Nitesmoke and dusanmal
Actually reporting it to Amazon is completely appropriate as that review does not speak to the quality of the product, which is what the reviews are intended for. - dietfacts, on 10/27/2008, -7/+48you have to pay $80 for mccain's face
- ffoofighter2001, on 10/28/2008, -0/+41it's not amazon's fault dummy, it's the people who tag it.
- MrPig, on 10/27/2008, -2/+41Energy levels low, shields deactivated.
- novalux, on 10/27/2008, -4/+42Such is illustrated the downfall of Data Mining based algorithms when user submission is involved...
- roxgod666, on 10/28/2008, -25/+61An extra $20 for the realistic skin cancer details
- sockpuppets, on 10/28/2008, -1/+31A really smart terrorist that needs to hide on halloween?
- gaapgod, on 10/28/2008, -4/+33Related Searches: arab costume, terrorist.
Wow. - glasnt, on 10/27/2008, -2/+28I'd shoe you, but I'd be laced with mace.
- vtnerd, on 10/28/2008, -27/+52Poorly written, ignorant, maybe a tad racist, and inflammatory to be sure, but it most likely contains some measure of truth regarding taxes.
You can't give a tax break to 95% of the US, expand early childhood education, implement universal healthcare and do all of the other things Obama wants to do without more money. He's either going to go into debt or raise taxes (I realize he says he won't do this, but politicians lie all the time - especially the ones with D's and R's next to their names). You can bury me all you want, but it doesn't change the reality that BIG government costs BIG money. The $10 billion/month we will save from getting out of Iraq (assuming that even happens in a timely fashion) will not cover these costs completely.
Time will tell (assuming he is elected), but I for one am not buying this no taxes stuff. - miquonranger031, on 10/28/2008, -1/+26Of course we should report both liberal and republican leaning reviews. They don't add anything to the product and only push a point of view in a place where it's not necessary. If you thought the mask looked accurate, say so. If it was too filmy or sticky, say so. If you don't like who it depicts, keep it to yourself. I wouldn't bash the Mona Lisa just because the woman in the painting is ugly. It's not a review of the product, so, yes, it can be marked as inappropriate without being a "violation of free speech". Anyway, didn't the Patriot act kill the Constitution and Bill of Rights? Well, except for the second amendment, of course.
- GarmaZed, on 10/28/2008, -4/+28This is the Offbeat sector, we've had a hull breach! I repeat, hull bre-ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOTOAD.
- sockpuppets, on 10/28/2008, -1/+25To vote in, of course!
- dumbducky, on 10/28/2008, -4/+28If you change the search criteria to Amazon.com rather than just apparel, you'd see a McCain mask, too. There is, however, no outrage over that.
- sockpuppets, on 10/28/2008, -11/+34Something something your mother.
- dietfacts, on 10/27/2008, -31/+53ever since the fargin rednecks got puters, the net has gone downhill
- scy1192, on 10/28/2008, -1/+22Boycotting something you weren't going to buy in the first place? Genius!
- paradexes, on 10/28/2008, -5/+26Yea they replaced it with a McCain mask. LOL that was funny.
- bstew22, on 10/28/2008, -23/+43cause Obama is a terrorist. duh.
(just wants to see how many times i get buried) - sivart84, on 10/28/2008, -1/+19Strange, I clicked the link and it had the Obama mask, then no more than a minute later I clicked the link again and ended up seeing "Your search did not match any products in apparel."
But the really strange part is that the second time it listed a recommendation for a John McCain Mask!
http://xs432.xs.to/xs432/08441/amazonterror827.jpg - DivisibleByZero, on 10/28/2008, -3/+21Yes, user-submitted content like product tagging does tend to get inaccurate. Look at the Daily Kos for further examples.
- sleepyguy22, on 10/28/2008, -2/+19I don't blame amazon, it never crossed my mind. I don't think any intelligent consumer would think amazon did this on purpose.
I find this hilarious! - sockpuppets, on 10/28/2008, -16/+33I asked for terror not rape!
- guyperson, on 10/28/2008, -0/+17$6.95 for Hillary
http://www.amazon.com/Politically-Incorrect-Hillar ... - blaker, on 10/28/2008, -0/+17Ehh I still see it...
- antdude, on 10/28/2008, -8/+24Now John McCain mask is showing up.
- P8ntBal1551, on 10/28/2008, -0/+15holy *****
80 dollars for a MASK?1?1?!?!? - bentracy, on 10/28/2008, -6/+21I am getting a John McCain mask now.
- Josue0486, on 10/28/2008, -2/+16$6.95?
FOR A HILARY MASK!?!?!?!?!
That's an outrage!!!
Who the hell would pay THAT MUCH for a Hilary mask? - Autodidaddict, on 10/28/2008, -3/+17Some typos are just so damn funny, I don't know what else to say
- MasterGrief, on 10/28/2008, -0/+13***** LOGIC
- rolf, on 10/28/2008, -6/+19Just like Digg has been taken over by the opposite extreme. Sigh. I'm really hoping to stop seeing this crap after the election. I want my Digg back:(
Some idiot probably put the word terrorist in a review or tag somewhere. No coordinated takeover. - RidesAPaleHorse, on 10/28/2008, -1/+13No, he's said that people earning under $200,000 will pay less all along. People making between $200l-$250k will pay the same as they pay now, and those making over $250k/year will pay what they paid before Bush's tax cuts.
- benjic, on 10/28/2008, -11/+23*****, now its a McCain Mask!
- DivisibleByZero, on 10/28/2008, -0/+12Really I'm more confused by the fact that the Obama mask is the ONLY result for "terrorist costume".
