- listrophy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+123"Last week's events caused a major disruption in the greater Boston area on many levels -- crippling public transportation, causing serious traffic problems, negatively affecting local businesses and perhaps most significantly, costing Boston and surrounding communities thousands of dollars," [Attorney General Martha] Coakley said.
Um, I think the most significant effect of last weeks events was the exposure of the ineptitude of the Boston government. - HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -5/+84Honestly, now I think less of Turner/Cartoon Network too.
They didn't take the chance to stand up for the people who work for them as not putting out any kind of "hoax" devices. They didn't take the chance to indicate that the Ass. Attorney General in this case feels absolutely no reticence about filing bogus felony charges which even the judge at the arraignment said are inappropriate, citing it would be impossible to show the accused meant these devices to be perceived as bombs.
Turner, you're as bad as these Boston governmental boneheads. And I think you're pretty out of touch with the views of the "stoners" who watch your shows.
You convinced me not to see your movie. - Porkchoppa, on 10/12/2007, -11/+77░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░

Ah screw it. - calbff, on 10/12/2007, -4/+47Nice going Turner. Now they've helped these inept, humourless police-state idiots gain some credibility. If there was ever a case to tell a government to shove it up their ass, it was this one. They would have even had the public's support.
- aegis9975, on 10/12/2007, -2/+42>>2 million is massively cheap. These guys are laughing, that's some of the best advertising money could ever buy.
Cheaper then a SuperBowl ad and certainly got a hell of lot more coverage. Like it or not, proves how effective guerrilla marketing is. - Chompy, on 10/12/2007, -5/+38All I can say is that it's a good thing Boston isn't prone to natural disasters, because with these idiots in charge alot of people would be dying while they argued over whose fault it was.
- masamunecyrus, on 10/12/2007, -4/+34And it's staggering to think that the Boston police chief's own ineptitude is now paying his Christmas bonus.
- JakeX, on 10/12/2007, -6/+36"Um, I think the most significant effect of last weeks events was the exposure of the ineptitude of the Boston government."
You totally hit the nail on the head there, its just spin tactics now to shift the focus off of them. - airencracken, on 10/12/2007, -4/+30Agreed. I found the "Adult Swim Apology" video on YouTube and watched it, waiting for the Adult Swim type joke to come. I was disgusted when I found it was just some legal ass covering with no sense of humor. Very un-adult swim, and very disappointing.
- wiremonkeymommy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+27I'm really disappointed in Turner, two million dollars would've bought 4000 hours worth of corporate lawyering at 500$ an hour... sheesh, they could've buried Boston AND stood up for what was right AND gotten even more great publicity
/wussies - danielrh9, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20I didn't plan on seeing the ATHF movie in theaters. I plan on it now, just out of spite.
- f3l1x, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20"I would have liked to see a detailed invoice of everything. "

- lightningrod220, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16"Hi, we're retarded.... give us money!"
- smackhero, on 10/12/2007, -5/+18you're ***** dumb. read the reports. they were placed in 10 cities--for 3 weeks. hundreds of people saw them i'm sure, and no one except probably 1 ***** idiot like you thought it was a bomb. you've never seen something with wires and batteries before? it looks like a goddamn lite-brite for crying out loud.
art is not a crime. but thanks to over-reacting ***** like you, we all have to be be careful of being charged with terrorism just by creating an LED light board. - Tetraca, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16The person who should be paying is the guy who phoned in the bomb scare. How do you mistake an LED sign with a pixelized creature on it to be a bomb? Isn't the goal of a terrorist attack to be as hidden as possible so they can have more of a fear factor when it explodes?
- Bikil, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15Argh, this is so frustrating. I can only hope the increased popularity of ATHF will make up for the money they had to pay. I do agree a bit w/ HappyScrappy, they really should have stood up for themselves better. *sigh*
- loqqq, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Funny $ how $ that $ all $ worked $ out $ for $ Boston . . .
- Tenetri, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12Wern't those out for 2 weeks before people noticed them?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11I've yet to meet an intelligent person that does not love ATHF.
Sadly, I've met quite a few who "don't get it".
You sound like you don't get it. As if a perfectly round bomb with a long fuse is anything other than hollywood make-believe. In truth, a bomb could be inserted into almost anything. Exposed wires or not, the real issue is the explosives being used.
This is why, in New York, they use bomb sniffing dogs to detect explosive materials by scent. Being that these things were nothing but wires and LED's, any halfway descent bomb squad should have been able to identify them as a non-threat.
And as others have said- they were sitting there for a matter of WEEKS before being investigated. WEEKS.
Why would a terrorist:
a) put bright lights on a bomb
b) set a detonation timer to wait a matter of weeks before exploding
/gloves off
How ***** stupid are you? Let's say I was a terrorist, trying to attack Boston. If I was, this incident would be a Godsend (Allah-send?). Homeland Security resources are tied up, the administation is revealed as incompetent, and the populace shown to be hysterical and irrational.
Why not just paint a big red "X" on your forehead?
Maybe the creationsists are right. Maybe Darwin was a fraud. How people like you survived in the 21st Century, I have no idea. - nepawoods, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12Don't worry - nine out of ten cities didn't freak out over the mooninite menace. If you don't live in Boston, you don't necessarilly need to be embarrased about living in a city that's run by a bunch of bozoes.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11This is total *****.
- nepawoods, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8There are only two possibilities here:
1. There was reason to suspect the devices might pose a threat, yet it took Boston three weeks to deal with them.
2. There was not reason to suspect the devices might pose a threat, yet Boston spent 2 million dollars dealing with them. - jessecurry, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11this is so ridiculous, it makes me ashamed to live in this country
- Stopher, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Did it really cost 1 million? This is like when a virus hits your company and they come up with a figure of how much it cost in manhours even though those people would still be working anyway. The cops were still there. The coast guard didn't buy new boats. The bomb squad didn't run out and get a new robot. These costs are inflated. If anything, some cops got a little overtime which might have had something to do with the overreaction in the first place.
- Pureeviljester, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8broomette needs to chill,
he's giving contact information for someone's office. as in part of her job.. will e-mail!! - balerhgae, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Oh, the felony charges are still being pursued. It's going to court. The 2 mil is just so Boston doesn't sue them. I'm already popping popcorn for the criminal trial.
- TommySalami, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9whats worse is that the government now probably thinks it can freak out about anything and then get someone else to pay because of it
- Dested, on 10/12/2007, -7/+12While I do agree with you, I think that its in there best interest to just let this thing blow over. They got the publicity that they wanted, no need to take it any further.
- ingxia, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Anyone notice this article involves a conflict of interest? The company writing this news story (CNN) is part of the same company who will be paying the fine (Cartoon Network). So it's in CNN's best interest to write an article in support of the city's reaction. It's an easy way to make and save money.
- balerhgae, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Oh come on, it wasn't AS. It was Turner, the parent company.
- nazadus, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9I would *at least* like to see an apology from Boston City.
Hell, I wish CN / Turner would sue the city of Boston for an apology or something. What the city pulled was *very* wrong.
"Oh, we over reacted, so let's over react MORE".... WTF? - f3l1x, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"Weren't those out for 2 weeks before people noticed them?"
...3... - BM5k, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Yeah, like the bomb squad would've stopped to read "THIS IS NOT A BOMB, MORON!"
- davecor, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Why didn't the OTHER 8 cities freak out over this? Probably because only in Hollywood do bombs have blinking lights, and every other person who saw these things didn't think "BOMB!"
But now the genie is out of the bottle... All future bombs will be festooned with LEDs. - dext3r, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7In which world is $2,000,000 considered 'free'?
- ldkronos, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6"Just because you can see just lights, batteries, and wires, doesn't mean that it's not a bomb. Someone could make a bomb look like that on purpose so people wouldn't suspect it."
You are exactly right. Someone could disguise the bomb to look like anything they want.
Wait a second...I don't remember that potted plant being there yesterday. CALL THE BOMB SQUAD.
Hmmm....a pizza box in the garbage can. Seems innocent enough, and that's exactly what the terrorists would want you to think. CALL THE BOMB SQUAD!!!!
Wait a second. I've never seen that car parked there before. What could be hiding in the trunk? CALL THE BOMB SQUAD!!!!!!!!!
That scruffy looking guys been standing there a while. He could be homeless. Or he could be wired with a bomb. CALL THE BOMB SQUAD!!!!!!!!!!! NOWWWWWW!!!!!!!!! - zwilliams, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8So Turner has to pay for Boston's incompetence. It is sickening on many levels, it is all a matter of time before some family sues their local water company because their kid drown in a pool. But then again if you think about how much was spent on 30 second SuperBowl ads which on average were over 2 million apiece. Aqua Teen Hunger Force on the other hand just got over three days of headline news all over the globe.
Turner, AdultSwim, and Interface Marketting (or whatever they call themselves) should of stuck to their guns and not budged on it.
Anyways, it all makes me want to move to the Moon, they are hundreds of years ahead of us, they probably don't have to put up with this kinda idiocy. - balerhgae, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Eh, that part was poorly worded. What I meant was that they're going to continue to get attention for this at no EXTRA cost to them. They paid their 2 mil, and this isn't NEARLY over.
- unloud, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6What can we say? Boston sucks.

So, which part of that explained why the Boston authorities aren't idiots for acting like this was the next 9/11? - buckeye45, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6January 2007: Mooninites deliver a pride obliterating bitch-slap to the city of Boston.
- zweben, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9"Bogus! Recoup the damages and move on. If I was in a car accident I would sue for the cost of my medical bills and not a cent more. Menino is calling for a boycott of the movie-- yeah, like the ATHF's demographic will listen to that."
I want to see the movie MORE now that this happened.
...I hope they sneak in something after the credits making fun of Boston. - nepawoods, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6"But since it is for a show that only virgins watch, you are all in favor of them."
I never heard of the show.
"Boston overreact?"
If they weren't overreacting, then they were reacting three weeks too late.
"There was ZERO reason to have exposed wires."
Does it matter if they were exposed or not? There are glowing LEDs, so there are probably wires, whether exposed or not. Hidden wires means it's OK?
Face it, Boston just proved that if terrorists ever plant bombs there, they'll have to be extremely conspicuous bombs with three week delays before detonation, or people will die. - EmperorAwesome, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2ghey
- nepawoods, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6"And how can you blame the Boston PD for taking it seriously? What if it ended up being a real bomb and they didn't take it seriously, and then it went off and people got hurt or killed?"
What if a real bomb weren't so conspicuous as these things were, and were set to go off before three weeks went by?
"Just because you can see just lights, batteries, and wires, doesn't mean that it's not a bomb. Someone could make a bomb look like that on purpose so people wouldn't suspect it."
Nobody freaking suspected it for three weeks! Someone could make a bomb look like just about anything. So what should the city of Boston NOT treat as a threat, and spend 2 million dollars protecting the people from? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Yes, the moon rules. #1. I hear they don't have to work- they get checks from the Government.
Put em' on the glass. -
