- Frostek, on 06/03/2009, -0/+128You fools! Skynet didn't know where Sarah Connor was either - that's why it had to send Terminators.
This means... Wolfram Alpha really *is* Skynet! :-O - elnerdo, on 06/03/2009, -0/+118I believe Skynet enjoyed interacting with humans, too. It just enjoyed a different KIND of interaction.
- Pooball, on 06/02/2009, -23/+130Kinda felt to me like skynet was destroyed on May 21st, 2009, after Salvation drove the franchise, yet again, into the ground.
- techdever, on 06/03/2009, -0/+81I find your conspiracies interesting and would like to subscribe to your newsletter.

A. Wolfram|Alpha isn't sure what to do with your input.
This is what I don't like about Wolfram|Alpha, it pretends to use natural language parsing and be *smart* but for the most part it is just hard-coded responses, there's very little depth. - TnTBass, on 06/03/2009, -2/+50It also doesn't know what women want.

I asked it the same question and it gave me the Prime Minister and Queen of England, I'm from the UK.
I like that. - inactive, on 06/03/2009, -3/+31It wasn't that bad man, I'd give it a 6 out of 10.

Wait a sec - there's some dude at the door. brb. - DetpackJump, on 06/03/2009, -1/+26....that people get so excited over someone at Wolfram hand-jamming creative answers to common questions
- inactive, on 06/03/2009, -2/+24At this point asking it real questions will be the novelty.
- inactive, on 06/03/2009, -0/+22Wolfram|Alpha doesn't waste its time watching that *****. You think it's stupid?
- SystemicThought, on 06/03/2009, -5/+24http://digg.com/programming/Can_WolframAlpha_Pass_ ...
I've been playing around with W|A a bit, it can tell me any president, like if I ask "Who was the 15th President." However, it can't tell me vice presidents, except the current. It can't tell me who the secretary of state is. And it assumes I'm talking about the U.S. when I ask "who is the president," which bugs me. I think I should be able to say "Who were the senators of Nebraska in 1964" and get two names out. I don't think that would be unreasonable.
It does work fairly well as a dictionary/thesaurus, though.
And no, WolframAlpha clearly isn't skynet... skynet worked. - protogenxl, on 06/03/2009, -0/+19Who's Your Daddy?
Response:
I was created by Stephen Wolfram and his team. - diggstown, on 06/03/2009, -2/+20You are absolutely right, but the RonBots have been replaced with WolframAlphaBots that will Digg down any negative comments you make about WolframAlpha.
It's all marketing, don't try to get in the way of the hype machine or they will thumbs down your ass! - randomchild, on 06/03/2009, -0/+18

- killhouse, on 06/03/2009, -0/+12Try this one: "Are you a robot?"

- s0krat3z, on 06/03/2009, -0/+11Exactly. Ask it where you are. It will geolocate you by IP address. So it made an assumption based upon your generalization. You did not specify the president of what organization, country, etc.

I tried a few things such as:
"Years, unmanned exploration of Venus"
"What year is considered Einstein's Wonder Year?"
"Odds of drawing to a flush, Hold'em"
"What were Voltaire's last words?"
etc. etc.
I got, well, more or less no results from any of the searches I tested with--and that includes more abbreviated search terms and the like. It has a very un-encyclopedic knowledge base, it would appear.
Perhaps it will improve but I'm skeptical based on the use of "experts" to help breed the content. Would love to be proven wrong for my skepticism, but we'll see ... - Nairebis, on 06/03/2009, -0/+9Just out of curiosity, has anyone asked it a non-math question that actually gave back useful information for you?
