- inactive, on 01/11/2008, -2/+198fatal error
- jet3004, on 01/11/2008, -6/+164After a fall of approximately four seconds, jumpers hit the water at 75 miles per hour, which is nearly always fatal. As of 2006, only 26 people are known to have survived the jump.
- Enderplayer1, on 01/11/2008, -7/+160Thank you for these unprompted facts
- WarnerK, on 01/11/2008, -2/+113I'd guess that the only thing worse than feeling like you're such a failure that you need to kill yourself is failing at killing yourself.
- EvanVolm, on 01/11/2008, -2/+112"Low battery". It's a sign!
- inactive, on 01/11/2008, -1/+93"Will YOU be the 27th survivor of the jump? You won't know unless you try."
- dotlizard, on 01/11/2008, -0/+88you know, when they were approaching the 1,000 suicide mark, they deliberately concealed the count so that people wouldn't try to be the one thousandth 'customer' over the side.
- sneakerelph, on 01/11/2008, -6/+76"I'm gonna jump!"
"Don't do it!"
"Ok..." - pdxchris, on 01/11/2008, -1/+70Worse than the sign that says "out of order" is the sign right above it that says "The consequences of jumping from this bridge are fatal and tragic." I think someone that wants to commit suicide wants it to be fatal. That sign should say: "If you jump, you probably won't die but you will be seriously maimed or paralyzed and Clint Eastwood won't be there to help you. There will only be a Southern Baptist minister that kinda looks like Huckabee that makes it his life's work to 24/7 watch over your life support machine to make sure no one unplugs it as you lie there in eternal pain and misery."
- darksydxx, on 01/11/2008, -11/+80Thats funny because I was contemplating suicide today as a cure for my manic depression. Then as I was about to close my computer and try to sleep I decided to check digg one more time and saw this. Looking at this put a smile to my face and help me realize suicide is not the way and kinda scary for real.
I'd like to thank Digg and the person who submitted this. - jdm0778, on 01/11/2008, -3/+71Seems to be the only logical choice after that.
- DeadRooster, on 01/11/2008, -8/+71Just push someone else off...you'll feel much better.
- Sornos, on 01/11/2008, -3/+66If you read it in the voice of Donkey from Shrek it doubles its hilarity.
- K3ITHK, on 01/11/2008, -4/+58I looked at the picture too.
- relaxeder, on 04/17/2009, -4/+58I can't tell if you're being cynical or not, but suicidality is something that should be addressed immediately with a counselor or a health specialist. I experience symptoms of anxiety-related depression sometimes, and it can be a difficult thing to function with. Every now and then those thoughts bubble up when I don't want them to, but I think I would be too scared to ever do it. It always pays off to have someone you can talk to when you're having problems, though.
Recently I've begun finding out just how connected your mental health and self-esteem really is to your physical well-being, too. Sleep, diet, regular exercise, even making sure your social needs are met... It all kind of fits into that stupid health triangle that you learned about in high school, but its true. - MikeSD34, on 01/11/2008, -0/+50I don't know that I would want to live after hitting something at 75mph unprotected.
- FoxMcCloud1, on 01/11/2008, -3/+49They should just have a net that tunnels you to a nice waterslide straight to alcatraz.
- 8KROM, on 01/11/2008, -1/+45Even in the future nothing works!!
- andregriffin, on 01/11/2008, -1/+44Either you're an idiot, or I am, because that made absolutely no sense.
- ktforfreak, on 01/11/2008, -0/+41I read more people go to the golden gate bridge to commit suicide than any other place in the world. So yeah, that can't be good.
- inactive, on 01/11/2008, -12/+51Fatty.
- mzkply, on 01/11/2008, -2/+37Or, you know, just a net.
- gnews, on 01/11/2008, -24/+51"Use a cell phone"
- mungk, on 01/11/2008, -0/+26I've been to San Francisco once. I've walked across the Golden Gate Bridge once. I've spotted (and reported) a dead body floating in the water at the foot of the south pier once. I think that means that every time someone visits the bridge they either jump or find a jumper. The evidence is almost irrefutable. I'm no statistician though.
- fearlessfx, on 01/11/2008, -0/+26I don't get it.. what is person 1 filling themselves with?
- FalcoML, on 01/11/2008, -4/+30Wear a condom?

"Do a Flip!" - littlewing82, on 01/11/2008, -1/+25There's a documentary about it called The Bridge.
http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/bridge/ - sfrench, on 01/11/2008, -0/+24Golden Gate - suicide hotspot
Oakland - murder hotspot.
We got it all covered here in the bay area. - yfguitarist, on 01/11/2008, -2/+25I can't feel my toes...I don't have any toes! I think I need a hug...
- drunkentoad, on 01/11/2008, -0/+22this is a case where spelling the 'punchline word' correctly would make your comment a little funnier. Oh well, next time huh
- inactive, on 01/11/2008, -3/+23and ^ thats what a ***** moron said
- inactive, on 01/11/2008, -1/+20strangely enough i've heard reports of people suddenly realizing their mistake after a second of jumping.

it's interesting if you have a few minutes to listen. they discuss the epiphanies the jumpers experienced in mid air. - livejamie, on 01/11/2008, -0/+19You're suggesting an inter net?
- nick0909, on 01/11/2008, -0/+18Having done plenty of suicide recoveries for the Sheriff's office in my area, there was a famous cliff in the county I worked that people would drive off to commit suicide. Nearly every person that drove off wore their seatbelt, and the more troubling fact, they almost always hit their brakes right at the edge (you could see the tire tracks change from rolling to skids). A few people did live, and they thanked us if they were able (some were in vegetative states after).
- OnipSemaj, on 01/11/2008, -0/+18*****, that was hilarious, but in a laughing-at-you kind of way.
- HerrEisenheim, on 01/11/2008, -1/+16Depends. I think about it all the time. I'm afraid that if I talk to anyone about it seriously they'll just lock me up. That's kind of what we tend to do to people here in the US. Send you away to an institute and drug you up until you can't feel anything anymore, then send you home and say you're "cured."
- Truegod, on 01/11/2008, -0/+15What would stop them from jumping off the side of the net? Another net?
- joeym, on 01/11/2008, -3/+18For all the net comments... I'm not sure that's the best solution. I for one, would be there tomorrow if their were a net. That's just too much fun to pass up. Let's jump off a bridge, fall 50 feet and have a net below to land in. Plain awesome.
Would just replace the suicidal with the thrill seeker, which I suppose is only a minor change :P - Dundasbro, on 01/11/2008, -2/+17You aren't funny.
- Arkz, on 01/11/2008, -1/+16Waffles are always a good alternative to suicide!
hey... why does it say STROM in the SEGA font? ;) - Mikey9oo, on 01/11/2008, -0/+14The argument to put a net under the bridge is kind of silly. It would not literally catch many people, rather people would find somewhere else to commit suicide seeing as there is a net to stop them.
- inactive, on 01/11/2008, -0/+14I'm sure they'd just find another bridge to jump off.
- stickman0287, on 01/11/2008, -3/+16question
have they reached the 1,000 mark?
cuz ive been plannin on takin a trip to SF... - GayMafiaKingpin, on 01/11/2008, -1/+14Bite my shiny metal ass!
- ChromaVita, on 01/11/2008, -0/+12Or the people that were compelled to jump just because there was a net there, thinking it would be safe.
- JoeDiggsIt, on 01/11/2008, -2/+14There's tape on the top and bottom.
