Sorry, but you are looking for something that isn't here.- moojj, on 10/12/2007, -4/+54Seems to be working for me.
Very interesting read, quite horrific images too. I can't imagine what that would have felt like.
One thing I must say though, I have never seen X-Ray's with such a high rate of clarity. At first I thought it was made by some kid in a 3D app, but the link to the news article shows the same image. - geminitojanus, on 10/12/2007, -3/+205It's because it's a CT scan, not an X-ray. Uses the same technology, but a much different method of resolving the image.
- Godlesswanderer, on 10/12/2007, -5/+155A slight case of pipe-eye, I see.
- keyboardduder, on 10/12/2007, -20/+3looks like a CD image more than anything
- anescient, on 10/12/2007, -19/+1Doesn't work for me either.
- fun4stuff, on 10/12/2007, -50/+3this is not a CT or xray. Injuries like this are not THAT uncommon, but this is most likely a computer generated image based off from MRI technology.

It is a CAT(Computer aided Tomography) scan with 3D reconstruction. You take a standard CT scan and use some fancy programs to make a pretty 3D image. - thtroyer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+69@fun4stuff
MRI's use giant magnets. You wouldn't want to get _anything_ magnetic near them, let alone that. - imperium2000, on 10/12/2007, -3/+34@fun: You cannot MRI(MAGNETIC Resonance Imaging) metal.

Here's another article featuring what might be a picture of this guy (if that is him, he is one lucky bastard) ---
http://tinyurl.com/23wk2h - dolemite5005, on 10/12/2007, -2/+32"I find it pretty cool that he didn’t get up to testify. Bunch of crazy dudes screwing around, one almost dies but realizes it was an accident and all part of the fun lol…crazy stuff."
I love the intelligent commentary and insight these bloggers provide us. - fun4stuff, on 10/12/2007, -35/+0@imp and THT: how do you know it's metal?
- ncapone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21@ fun4stuff
RTFA, it says the chair is made of metal several times in its context. - geminitojanus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6"You cannot MRI(MAGNETIC Resonance Imaging) metal."
Actually you can MRI most metals (all non-ferrous or non-ferromagnetic metals; and even those if they're in small enough concentration); MRI in its native form, NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, as it's called in other industries), is a great way for looking for microfractures or pores (though CT is *much* more used for this purpose due to the expense of NMR scanners) and resolving the kind of rock you're looking at without cutting it apart (proton content). Oil companies will drop NMR probes down into new oil wells to resolve how porous the rock is (and thusly how much oil the rocks can hold) and the density of the material (see if you're looking at oil, at what grade, or natural gas, or just some water).
But yeah, you're not going to take an MRI of a guy with a pipe through his face. The CT scan is sufficient (and well, even if it wasn't, it just about has to be in this case). Maybe a higher resolution scanner might have helped though. - coit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5@ J4320
Nope, that's not the guy with the hole in his head, its the guy who did it. - smackhero, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8@fun4stuff: how do you think? by reading the article of course--duh. they mention that it was a metal chair like 3 times at least.
god, i'm so sick of retards who don't RTFA and say stupid ***** that's clearly contradicted by the article or ask questions that they'd already know the answer to if they had read it.
if you someone mentions something about the story that you didn't know, wouldn't you naturally check the article first if you wanted to find out where they got the info from? or were you just assuming that they were wrong despite not having read the story yourself? - ungus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10How about a hats off to the guy who takes the leg of a chair through his skull, has some long term or permanent consequences, and forgives the guy completely? It's totally the right thing to do, seeing as it seems to be an accident.
What a logical, nice, and all around great guy.
One more hats off to you, sir. - carbonetc, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10An MRI would have made for a very quick extraction of the chair leg, at least.

OH THE HUMANITY
- moojj, on 10/12/2007, -4/+54Seems to be working for me.
- borninda818, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3after seeing the picture i just couldn't read it. The X-ray, or CT scan, is so much more disturbing for me than actually seeing something like this happen. Don't know exactly why, i can see pictures of crazy ***** and it doesnt phase me, but this 3d image made me shiver.
- catalysis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I think I would be much more disturbed if I actually saw it, although you wouldn't be able to see the chair leg going into his throat.
- twertyto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+48Walk it off man. Walk it off.

- jjesusfreak01, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I volunteer in xray at a hospital, and I would have to say that you will pretty much never see anything that cool.
And I agree, it isnt an x-ray. - phirestyle, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1it’s 3d computed tomography :)
Not an X-Ray...
buried...
- drmangrum, on 10/12/2007, -2/+341) it's probably the only picture of a skull i'll see all day so the title is moot

- tekrat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I thought the guy was part of a chainsaw accident with that thing hanging out his mouth. What is that tube made of, braided carbon fibers?
- CalipsoII, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Who's know what's it made of, but my guess would be he was having some problems with swelling in his esophagus after a chair leg found it's way down there.
/sarcasm - leftnut, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9The thing coming out of his mouth is likely an endotracheal tube to make sure the bar-fighting genius has an airway to stay alive.

- akatherder, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2Ok, I'll admit that Americans are overly litigious. But I would expect significant civil compensation or severe criminal retribution for someone embedding a chair in my head. If you don't punish him, he's going to go around throwing chairs into everyone's head.
- redrighthand, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Does Australia have national healthcare?
- JaytB, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I can only imagine a conversation with this guy.
"Well it can happen you know when you fool around as grownups and start acting a little crazy. He bones my skull so what, it happens you know. Next time I could accidentally shove a snooker cue up his ass, these things happen you know" - plasmoske, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Yes Australia has national health care.
And the guy in this article is a friend of a friend of mine.
The incident happened at a club in Melbourne called 'Metro'. - hplasm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"Jeez Mate- it's just a scratch..."
- phibrex, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Fair dinkum, our national health care consists of a 6 pack and some crocodile skin to ease the pain.

- Makubex, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3Perhaps I'm sick, but I laughed at the thought of a man standing there with a chair sticking out of his face.
- MissAmy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Pretty cool that he forgave the guy who did this.
- fgirl917, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0yeah, i wouldn't. that sounds like im holding up a welcome sign that reads "hit me with a chair again...i won't mind"
- roadkillkid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?"

- MercifulCobra, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0Would you forgive someone if they threw a chair THROUGH YOUR FACE? Probably not. What a bunch of pushovers.
It's not like the guy that threw the chair was feeding the homeless at the time. He was in a fight and he needs to be barred. - gab00n, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3That must have been one heavy chair and the guy who threw it most likely ate spinach prior to the incident.
- PhillipJFry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Exhibit # 3965 of why the Aussies are the most laid-back group of people in the planet. I swear, every single Aussie I've ever met is ridiculously laid-back with regards to almost any situation. They like to horse around, but all in good fun.
"Ah, no worries mate, I know you didn't do it on purpose! Just get a round in one day at the bar and we'll be even"
I've lived in Europe for about 4 years and people always comment about how Americans seem laid back compared to Europeans, yet these guys make us look like Woody Allen by comparison. -
