In other words, I would have burned to death if someone wasn't shouting at me and trying to get me out of the car that later burned to the ground.
I understand what you're trying to imply, but leaving anyone entirely alone after an accident is a terrible, terrible idea.

Hail plugged the storm drain and caused a hail dam. when it broke free water cam from the surrounding communities which are up to 50 metres ( 160 feet) higher. it was all clean rain water"

- bartofdahammer, on 12/28/2007, -2/+21Not enough water overflow protection for the water system, the area probably runs on combined sewers, where storm water and sewage go into the same pipe, and the storm was so huge that the treatment plant was getting backed up and the system needed to release somewhere, and well thats where it was easy to escape.

You can't hold the idea "I'm going to help anyone that is in trouble" as the situation dicates if you can help while also keeping yourself safe. I believe it's unfair to call people "selfish" without looking at the situation as a whole.
