- SeventhSon, on 02/06/2008, -4/+34Buried as inaccurate. We all know that the Flying Spaghetti Monster created television.
- TheRealToma, on 02/06/2008, -2/+28Its a little sad that TVs keep getting bigger and better, and alot of people keep getting stupider and fatter.
- oregongirl82, on 02/06/2008, -1/+20I actually have one of those 80s styles with the wooden/silver look to it ... the remote isn't all that great, and you have to have a VCR to get above channel 30, but the picture and sound are still just fine!
- Gizza, on 02/06/2008, -0/+16I love how the remote control ad states that it's "absolutely harmless to humans".
- NightVortez, on 02/06/2008, -1/+13Bigger screens, more channels and yet the quality of the programs stay the same.
- wedges, on 02/06/2008, -0/+12don't forget OLED... the form factor those sets are able to have is breathtaking.
- dvdking, on 02/06/2008, -0/+11That's not evolution...that's intelligent design. :)
- inactive, on 02/06/2008, -3/+11You called?
- DeskFlyer, on 02/06/2008, -0/+8I like how it shows the modest '91 Trinitron and then *BAM* giant rear projection! ;)
- inactive, on 02/06/2008, -0/+8Yes, my lord. What shall we do about the Cult of Scientology?
- digason, on 02/06/2008, -0/+6The article needs to be updated with the 150" TV from this year's CES.
- theuber1337, on 02/06/2008, -0/+6You mean, get dumber right? They didn't have reality tv back in my day.
- Kanidia, on 02/06/2008, -0/+6"Yup, TV's were the one thing you needed to make any home look modern - see the difference"
Wow those photoshop skills are pretty bad. - inactive, on 02/06/2008, -0/+6Unfortunately, instantly fatal to Lolcats.
- Zanneth, on 02/06/2008, -0/+5"Personally, I can't tell the difference between your average plasma, LCD and HDTV. Maybe it's just a conspiracy to get us to pay more for the same stuff."
Are you serious? How can this guy write an article on the evolution of TV when he's clueless about today's TVs? HDTV is plasma and LCD and there's a huge difference. - garrettnb, on 02/06/2008, -0/+5you obviously haven't been to digg before
- bosssmiley, on 02/06/2008, -0/+4Mmmmm, delicious old-school electric fish tanks. The 1930 Baird Televisor has all sorts of retro cool going on.
- lordmike, on 02/06/2008, -0/+4Mechanical TV rocks! A spinning disk with holes and 31, yes 31, lines of resolution! How can you go wrong with that?
- TBobes, on 02/06/2008, -0/+4There are High Definition televisions that aren't LCD or Plasma, maybe that is what he was reffering to. A few tube tv's in the early 2000's were high defintion. (I have a a trinitron from 2003, and it still looks better than any plasma or lcd I have seen, but I did pay $2000 for it at the time...)
- theartfuldodgr, on 02/06/2008, -0/+4About 10 years ago my dad's old cabinet tv stopped working, he hated to throw it away so he ripped out the guts of it. Alittle cutting, painting, nailing, and curse words later, he made it into a coffee table with a nice storage compartment complete with glass door. Pretty funny seeing the tv you grew up with still around but as a different piece of furniture.
- 4LeggedtriPod, on 02/06/2008, -0/+4108" is no longer the biggest. Get with the program!!!
- Marijuana, on 02/06/2008, -0/+4I want a 1970 Keracolor.
- getjustin, on 02/06/2008, -0/+3I miss the days when you could potentially stub a toe on your TV.
- carpespasm, on 02/06/2008, -0/+2They didn't include the awesome front projection fold our monster of a set we had when I was a kid. I can't find a picture of it for the life of me it seems, but it had a large screen attached to a base with three separate round picture tubes (one red, green, and blue) that reflected off a mirror that folded out and reflected the total image up onto the screen. I used to have fun as a little kid covering one color and watching how it would affect the bigger screen. Anyone know what that kind of TV is called?
- iassocuwinun, on 02/06/2008, -0/+2I remember when we had to walk to change the channels...uphill...in the snow...both ways
- sgtpppr, on 02/06/2008, -0/+2I'm only 30 and I remember 'rumors' that remote controls gave off waves that caused cancer. I knew multiple people that wouldn't buy a microwave because of the 'waves'. As soon as wireless electronics came out, everyone thought they were nuclear physicists. Though, the same thing still happens today. NEW STUFF IS SCARY!
- waldo686, on 02/06/2008, -0/+2my grandparents have their "new" tv sitting on top of the old wood box television
- NightVortez, on 02/06/2008, -1/+3Touche.
- inactive, on 02/06/2008, -0/+2It will all change once TV goes 3D with holographic TV. Then people will have to actually move their head around and torso to see everything happening around them. On the education part, no clue its a downhill trend.
- LoopyChew, on 02/06/2008, -0/+2Didn't they unveil a 150" TV earlier this year/late last year? Seeing as this post was made yesterday and the poster/blogger has been on Digg for a while, shouldn't he have included that?
(I suppose the 108" TV is still the largest LCD TV, but...I mean, a 40% increase in size!) - EvilFerret, on 02/06/2008, -0/+2My first TV my parents bought for me at the launch of the NES. It was a 15", and what I *thought* was brand ***** new. The TV dial only went to 13 channels or so and you had to screw in the connections for the antenna/nes. I don't remember when that was exactly, I'd guess 1985 or whenever the NES launched. From the looks of this article, those cheap mother ***** bought me a 10yr old TV. :p ..... Ah well, good times.
- inactive, on 02/06/2008, -0/+2damn i still remeber playing our commodore64 on the TV labeled "1979 Portland 19inch"
ahhh the memories lol. - TecK415, on 02/06/2008, -0/+2"I can't tell the difference between your average plasma, LCD and HDTV"
.... Man.. I see a big difference.
I used to have the 1974 Sony with the rabbit ears, brings back memories... of Winny The Pooh mostly. - urbanclock, on 12/08/2008, -0/+2I would say both overpriced, but both awesome as well.
- hadak, on 02/06/2008, -0/+2Holy *****. My grandparents have that 1974 zenith wood box thing.
- DeadFox1, on 02/06/2008, -0/+2They seem to be missing the projection TV with the three big "red" "yellow" and "blue" lights facing the screen... ahh.. the 80's..
- wyrdness, on 02/06/2008, -0/+2I went to an engineering exhibition last year where they were demonstrating mechanical TVs playing video from cd-rom!
- GreatDrok, on 02/06/2008, -0/+1Rather than focus on the screens, the most revolutionary change since TV appeared is the move from watching what the broadcasters send out to recorded media starting with the VCR to time shift. TiVo has transformed my TV viewing as the broadcasters no longer control my schedule or can force-feed advertising. I also have hundreds of optical discs (LD, VCD, DVD, HD DVD, no BD yet) so I am never short of anything to watch. The display itself? Big is nice but it is still a screen, the important thing is what you show on it.
- frozenwookie, on 02/06/2008, -0/+1lmao i love how crappy the resolution of espn is it, they were showing a soccer game, all i saw was a green screen
- urbanclock, on 12/08/2008, -0/+1Nice way to sneak in your own article jackass
- marioday, on 02/06/2008, -0/+13d tv would be nice.

Some of the old 70's brochures might be a little NSFW. - gordonj, on 02/06/2008, -0/+1But God made TV 6000 years ago, it didn't evolve!
- smashhell, on 02/11/2008, -0/+1...... No Thanks, I have my PC.
- darlyn, on 02/06/2008, -0/+1Buried for: terrible Photoshop job and lack of updates.
- praxisseizure, on 02/06/2008, -1/+2I can't wait for 3D TV or holographic displays. There is a downside, however.
