- catachip, on 07/04/2009, -1/+38Actually, crime in the united states of all kind is at its lowest rate in decades. Media coverage and sensationalism, however, is at an all time high.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crime_in_the_United_S ... - BobSagetFan, on 07/04/2009, -2/+19No, way too harsh for the crime. Our jails should be filled with marijuana users, not serial killers.
- yocouchdigga, on 07/04/2009, -4/+19as if we didn't have enough to worry about in this crazy mess our country's in, some *****'s trying to make it that much crazier. catch him and fry him.
- presidentraygun, on 07/04/2009, -1/+15Have they checked the hikers on the appalachian trail. There's all sorts of shady appalachian trail hiking lately.
- BobSagetFan, on 07/04/2009, -1/+14@TheRedLemon
I'm not a hippie and I don't even smoke weed. I was just giving a silly reply to an incredibly stupid comment, until you had to be a douche and take it seriously. - PhillyOC, on 07/04/2009, -0/+11The hash-slinging slasher?
- apzdsx, on 07/04/2009, -3/+12Bad things are happening all the time, it is an every day occurrence. Maybe you shouldn't watch the news 24/7, some ignorance can be a good thing in this case.
- SideShowMel0329, on 07/04/2009, -1/+10Not really hiking, but I was just on the AT recently and we came across a handful of "shanty towns" if you will. Like maybe 20-30 tents set up just off the trail in the middle of a field. Homeless people, I guess...They all just kind of hang around smoking cigarettes and watching the hikers. Creeped me the ***** out.
- Pinkertinkle, on 07/04/2009, -1/+9More of a killing spree.
- BerryZilla, on 07/04/2009, -2/+10Yes, this would be a spree killer not a serial killer. To be a serial there would have to be a long cooling off period between killings.
- hmunkey, on 07/04/2009, -0/+7I sense a Law and Order episode based on this. With a disclaimer of course.
- schrutefan, on 07/04/2009, -0/+7Where's Dexter when you need him?
- rocknog, on 07/04/2009, -3/+10@TheRedLemon
How about you shut the ***** up because having our jails overflowing with pot users makes it more difficult to deal with real criminals? Does that not concern you in the least? - feignNU, on 07/04/2009, -1/+6enjoy your long and boring life.
- freetoex, on 07/04/2009, -1/+6@TheRedLemon
How does it feel to be a complete *****? - Xaevier, on 07/04/2009, -2/+6Spree killer vs serial Killer
Spree = relatively short if no cool off period at all
Serial = connection between victims at least a few days between each victim
If he keeps going for long enough he might upgrade to serial killer status but considering his style/pace it might be safer to stick with spree killer. - inactive, on 07/04/2009, -12/+16It is amazing the things that are taking place these days. I am an avid news reader and the stories just keep coming in. And the sad thing is the more horrific that they get the more desensitized that American's are getting. It is almost like an every day occurrence. The people of this small town have to be scared to death. It just goes to show that it can happen to me or anybody for that matter.
- PhillyOC, on 07/04/2009, -2/+6"The sheriff reminded people they have a right to protect themselves and asked them to call 911 to report anything suspicious. He also advised salesmen and others to avoid knocking on strangers' doors with so many on heightened alert."
They should flood the county with Jehovah's Witnesses. You would just hear knock, knock, BANG all over town. That'll teach those bastards to go banging on people's doors every weekend. - storiesteller, on 07/04/2009, -3/+7This news is outdated, The killer got a 5th victim:

- scotchw, on 07/04/2009, -2/+5Your links are outdated.... and direct plagiarism of the FoxNews story I already posted
- carf4ce, on 07/04/2009, -0/+3what a douchebag
- chuckerton, on 07/04/2009, -3/+6From State Sen. Harvey Peeler, R-Gaffney: "Residents have their guard up and their gun handy. There is no greater fear than the fear of the unknown and nobody knows. You can cut the tension with a knife. People are locking their doors, even in broad daylight."
Nice calm touch you have there, Senator. - ifruit, on 07/04/2009, -1/+4There are still Jehovah's Witnesses? I haven't seen one since the 90's.
- kingp, on 07/05/2009, -0/+3You're probably going to see some "Redneck Justice" before the cops will get this guy. After having moved from there, I know how inept the law enforcement is in that area, and they are MUCH more concerned about catching potheads, and writing speeding tickets unfortunately. Don't worry, this douchebag will knock on the wrong door, and someone will blow his @$$ to smithereens.
- ffhc2000, on 07/05/2009, -0/+3Very true about the quality of law enforcement down there. Thankfully, the FBI is stepping in to lend a helping hand.
- robflynn, on 07/04/2009, -1/+4I live approx. 10 miles from where the murders have taken place. Lots of folks are on edge. The police presence is pretty high at the moment. I saw quite a few very heavily armed police officers around the areas where fireworks displays would be occurring. They've been stopping and checking out a lot of vehicles matching the suspected description as well. However, I'd imagine the killer has ditched that ride already.
- inactive, on 07/04/2009, -2/+4the killer is probably commenting on digg
- scotchw, on 07/04/2009, -6/+8Actually, FoxNews is reporting
Teen Girl Becomes 5th Victim of Suspected South Carolina Serial Killer
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,530064,00.html
Granted this is FoxNews, but maybe they know the difference between 4 and 5 - leazarus, on 07/04/2009, -3/+5You need to be put in school "oviously".
- PhillyOC, on 07/04/2009, -0/+2We still get them in the city now and again. Last time was only a couple of months ago.
- MunterPunter, on 07/04/2009, -2/+4Gaffney Country isn't anywhere near the a.t.
- EddiePotato, on 07/04/2009, -0/+2dubious word is dubious
- EddiePotato, on 07/04/2009, -0/+2It would be nice if extraordinary acts of constructiveness, bravery, and kindness made the news every day. They happen all the time, but are sorely underrepresented in the news. What we chose to focus on in this world is ultimately up to us as individuals, and anyone who lets the media decide what's important all the time is sure to be miserable.
- EarthBoundX5, on 07/04/2009, -1/+3you're stupid
- allisonaxe, on 07/04/2009, -1/+3this sounds interesting... anyone got anymore info on this stuff?
- tommyny04, on 07/04/2009, -1/+3you're going to die eventually .. that's a given. the sooner you face that fact and own it, the more you can really live
- FattyAcidTrip, on 07/04/2009, -2/+4I use to live near there, kind of scary.
***** like this is why I stay home all the time. Work and home, that's it.
Does that make me a pussy? Yep.
Will this pussy outlive you? More then likely. - MasterGrief, on 07/04/2009, -1/+3Killtacular?
- atonix, on 07/04/2009, -1/+3I have a very close friend who lives down the street from the 15 year old and father who was killed. She said everyone is keeping their house lights on and gun loaded. I hope this guy gets a few extra holes in himself soon.
Rumor has it they have a person of interest, but it's just rumor until they nail that SOB. - kanojo1969, on 07/04/2009, -1/+3In medievel times there were well-known aristocrats in europe who lured hundreds of young virgins to their castle to murder and sexually torture them.
The violent crimes committed by these and other people in history make today's serial killers look like social workers.
What's new today is that we are much more likely to hear about it. - robflynn, on 07/04/2009, -1/+3The fifth victim was shot at the same time as the fourth, her father. She survived, until now, in very critical shape at a local hospital.
- inactive, on 07/04/2009, -1/+3ovious comment is ovious
- skipvt, on 07/04/2009, -0/+2Dugg for the Porky Pig (as the indomitable Porky Watkins) reference.
- justdru, on 07/05/2009, -0/+1Make that five deaths. The little girl just died.
- robflynn, on 07/04/2009, -0/+1I hadn't heard anything re: a POI. I'll have to ask/look around and see what I can find.
- daftbrain, on 07/05/2009, -1/+2Even at an all-time low, the homicide rate in the United States is still a fair bit higher than any other developed country: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_ ...
- robflynn, on 07/07/2009, -0/+1The killer was killed early yesterday morning in a shoot out with police in Gastonia, NC.
- DulcetTone, on 07/05/2009, -0/+1Than
- sat0shi, on 07/05/2009, -1/+2Weeee, I always knew Gaffney would make it into the news! Just wish it wasn't for this...
I just visited my family there about 2 weeks ago, good thing I got out before the serial killer sprung up. I kind of hope they show up at my parents' house there, because my dad's arsenal of weaponry will probably destroy him pretty easily. Good luck with that one, Mr. Serial Killer. -
