- netneutrality, on 04/13/2009, -14/+222"Of course, the reason Snopes.com is more often accused of bias by conservatives than by liberals is that facts have a notoriously liberal bias."
Dugg for truth. - EXTER, on 04/13/2009, -3/+125http://xkcd.com/250/
- webconnoisseur, on 04/13/2009, -2/+93Who's watching the watchmen? Glad to hear Snopes checks out okay as I've long used them for crazy email fwd fact checking.
- Groucho88, on 04/13/2009, -1/+72"Incidentally, the Mikkelsons make no claim to infallibility and insist that their highest objective is to help convince people to think critically about what they hear and read ... and to do their own fact checking."
That's what I like to hear. - Shreder1, on 04/13/2009, -0/+61I don't think anyone has enough time on this Earth to do that.
- delau, on 04/13/2009, -3/+58'Facts have a notoriously liberal bias.' - Stephen Colbert
- Treshnell, on 04/13/2009, -1/+54I showed that site to a friend when he was spouting off the "Obama isn't a legal American" crap or whatever, and he basically said the 'bias of that site is clear and obvious and you can't believe everything you read on the internet.' Unless it's what you want to believe.
- OptionalPirate, on 04/13/2009, -2/+49I'd expect no less from Snopes. Maybe they should start fact-checking FOX News.
- BrutePhysics, on 04/13/2009, -1/+42Snopes: 1
Crazies: 0 - WraTH017, on 04/13/2009, -1/+41It's often accused because, more often then not, Conservatives are the ones creating ridiculously false asinine spam emails that travel through out the intertubes and spread like the plague carried out by the flea infested vermin that believe in them.
So, after getting 10 out of 10 of their "Obama is secrete muslum!!1" emails debunked, they're of course going to call foul. Like they do every time someone uses facts and logic to prove them wrong. - mithrasinvictus, on 04/13/2009, -7/+45Everything not run by the gop gets accused of having a "liberal bias"
Republicans have turned into a bunch of whiners. - mithrasinvictus, on 04/13/2009, -4/+40http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarcasm
- hawkspur, on 04/13/2009, -1/+34The birthers are always good for a laugh. We just need to take the warning labels off everything and let nature sort itself out.
Protip: John McCain was born in the Panama Canal Zone. - inactive, on 04/13/2009, -13/+45Snopes has a liberal bias for the very simple reason that Republicans lie more.
- Insightful, on 04/13/2009, -2/+22RTFA. Many conservatives believe, believe it or not, that Snopes is 'liberally biased'.
- inactive, on 04/13/2009, -6/+26snopes got snoped
- seltaeb4, on 04/13/2009, -6/+24You should browse the politics section of snopes.com to get an even better read on the e-mail forwards of the American Right than we already have.
They are the most non-inquisitive, gullible as hell, dumb as dirt people you can find, willing to believe any story, no matter how fantastical, as long as it slams on Democrats. Fortunately snopes calls the Rightist fabricators out on it, but the fact that they have to spend so much time wading through bogs of vomit and sewage that the Republicans fling around as factual to their minions is testimony to the minion's naivete. - BrutePhysics, on 04/13/2009, -1/+18good try, but isn't it Reality having a liberal bias not Facts?
Dugg anyway. - thesonofdarwin, on 04/13/2009, -0/+17If more people would do this they'd stop once and for all. I block and redirect email back to the person as soon as I get one of the forwards after giving them an explanation. I recently blocked my father's work email and told him he was on a 2 week probation after which time I'll unblock until he repeats the offense and will be permanently blocked after that.
The people that let them get away with it are just as bad. Break the cycle. - inactive, on 04/13/2009, -1/+16Yep, it'd be better stated as "liberals have a factual bias".
- Gorgonzola44, on 04/13/2009, -0/+14That's funny, I've always used crazy email forwards as a reason to get new friends/put my parents in a home.
- TheBlueVulcan, on 04/13/2009, -1/+14Whoosh.
- maz2331, on 04/13/2009, -0/+13And PASSED!
- jamshid, on 04/13/2009, -2/+15Long live snopes! I wore the hell out of http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/muslim.asp during the elections. Spread its links like gospel, e.g. http://www.snopes.com/religion/religion.asp
- xenuxenuts, on 04/14/2009, -0/+13That is the truth. I don't remember ever getting one of those BS ridden emails from a liberal person. The good news is they make it easier to tell who is a moron.
- luke374, on 04/13/2009, -3/+16Ok, but who's fact-checking the fact-checkers who are fact-checking the fact-checkers?!
- PizzaEagle, on 04/14/2009, -0/+12This is the best xkcd ever!
- novenator, on 04/14/2009, -0/+12comfort, what he is saying is that the conservatives are usually the ones making ***** up and falsely accusing people of things to try and dirty their reputation or credibility. When a bipartisan or apolitical organization such as snopes, factcheck.org, wikipedia, etc. calls them out on their *****, they accuse them of having a 'liberal bias'.
- inactive, on 04/13/2009, -0/+12The Watchmen
- inactive, on 04/13/2009, -1/+13Sarcasm used to be the lowest form of wit; these days it's puns and fart jokes.
- inactive, on 04/14/2009, -0/+11The very first post said who's watching the watchmen.
You don't get free parrot points because it's Latin. - HappyGestapo, on 04/14/2009, -0/+10*Head explodes*
- HardSide, on 04/13/2009, -1/+11I remember snopes when it was just 2 pages filled with Disney facts, how else could I have known about the priest with the moving penis in the little mermaid. (and yes I know, disney screams left and right saying its his leg, but back then Snopes had it set as "True")
- mofw, on 04/13/2009, -1/+10Snopes.com FTW
- kirkis, on 04/14/2009, -0/+8OMG
- Bartboy919, on 04/14/2009, -0/+8If you listen really hard, you can hear the birthers crying.
http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/citizen.asp - steelreserve211, on 04/13/2009, -0/+7Et tu, smart ass?
- novenator, on 04/14/2009, -4/+11When a bipartisan or apolitical organization such as snopes, factcheck.org, wikipedia, etc. call people out on their *****, conservatives accuse them of having a 'liberal bias'.
- Wormwoods, on 04/14/2009, -0/+7It wouldn't take too long just to mark everything as false.
- pensivewombat, on 04/14/2009, -0/+6Reality has a well known liberal bias.
- candre23, on 04/14/2009, -0/+6Read both of those links and they are both inaccurate alarmist hysteria about a consumer product safety law that doesn't actually do the things the chain email claims it does.
Snopes is correct, and these people are loonies. You're a loony for believing them. - sciencelovesyou, on 04/14/2009, -0/+5Hey now!
They have a clock in the corner, and it's never lied to me before. - charlie6969, on 04/14/2009, -0/+5I wore both sites out during the elections and continue to head there anytime I hear something unbelievable. (Yeah, most days.lol)
- rilian, on 04/13/2009, -6/+11I beg to differ with your opinion. I am a conservative, though not a Republican, and I know plenty of conservatives who are caring, intelligent people who do not spew "bogs of vomit and sewage" as you put it. I also personally know plenty of liberals who would agree with me.
I find generalizing such as yours very distasteful. If you have specific accusations against someone, go for it but please do not assume that all liberals are angels and all conservatives are ***** just because you've bumped into a few of each that match.
Thank you. - inactive, on 04/14/2009, -0/+4Birthers? Is that what we've collectively decided to call them? I hate the internet, and yet...I cannot turn away.
- molochi, on 04/14/2009, -1/+5I don't why anyone ever said that. The lowest form of wit was chuckling while "Ogg" kicked a starving dog to death. On the scale of wit, sarcasm falls somewhere between wedgies and improvised limericks about "Somebody from Nantucket".
- dicai, on 04/14/2009, -0/+3I wonder "what if Mythbusters joined forces with Snopes... "
Debunking force! - bal00, on 04/14/2009, -0/+3Pretty much. Just need to look at the amount of McCain hoaxes vs. the amount of Obama hoaxes:
