- Kesereti, on 07/06/2009, -2/+19Yeah, that's why (in this particular case, as well as others) they DID have a control group, and they did multiple experiments, in multiple situations, with multiple testing apparatus. They even tested inflatable bras in addition to silicone implants. In order for these implants to fail in the way they did, they already would have had to be compromised; i.e. were defective or had been damaged. In fact, the article itself cites doctors' commentary that the pressure differential likely accelerated an *existing* defect, exactly like what was shown on Mythbusters. Without an existing defect, silicone implants remained intact even under pressure (and negative pressure) conditions that would have long since KILLED the implantee.
Sure, Mythbusters isn't a show where a couple of people sit in a lab and do carefully controlled experiments under clean-room conditions and do a bunch of math before and after. No one would watch the show if they did -- lab science may be exciting for those doing it, but it's damn boring to watch. To say that they "never prove[s] anything" and that what they do is "not science", however, is disingenuous. They follow the scientific method very well -- they have a hypothesis (often the myth itself), they perform experiments to gather data, and with that data they either prove or disprove the hypothesis. In many cases, the proof is more of a "This *COULD* happen, but is very unlikely due to the fact that we had to do X, Y, and Z in order to make it happen, and the probability of X, Y, AND Z all happening out in the world is very low" type thing, but in most cases they do multiple experiments, under different test conditions, exactly like you would expect any good scientist to do. - Geat, on 07/06/2009, -6/+22But, Mythbusters proved this to be impossible. Generally, implants are nasty.... They don't look good, most of them don't feel good (to us or you) - they make you look like a cheap pornslut (nothing against porn, nothing against sluts) -but even in porn (and sluts) most of us prefer natural breasts - and the saddest part of all about this, is there are so many women who have unbeleivably hot, great, just perfect breasts who then go ***** them up with boob jobs just because they have some complex they've had ever since Jr. High school when some big-titted cheerleader girl laughed at them in the locker room and stole their boyfriend....Let me tell you, that cheerleader bitch is now a stripper at a b rate strip club giving bjs for $50..
I have even seen documentaries about young women who are still in high school getting fake ***** - 16 and 17 year olds, who aren't even out of that adolescent insecurity phase making decisions that will impact their health and beauty for the rest of their lives - and the process is painful and not without risk - it's like the time when I was 16 and saw some idiot at the pawn shop with a slightly dirty 1952 telecaster his dad had left him that had to be worth thousands do a straight across trade for a BC Rich cause "he wanted a guitar that looked metal."
