- Haidoken, on 12/02/2007, -1/+63how do you "accidentally" share your SSN or tax information through Bittorrent or P2P? How dumb does the RIAA think we are
- Matix947, on 12/02/2007, -0/+58I love Oregon
- VogonBard, on 12/02/2007, -0/+48It's good to know the RIAA is concerned about students divulging personal information via Bittorrent, etc. Instead of spying on students, why don't they offer some scholarships for students who are rabid music fans?
- blup3ace, on 12/02/2007, -1/+42***** the RIAA
- sesstreets, on 12/02/2007, -1/+37Finally, somebody with balls decides to take a stand for our rights.
- Makisupa, on 12/02/2007, -1/+25After reading the the AGs memo, I have to say, thank god someone has finally listened to what we litigators have been saying. Stop challenging these suits on the substantive law and start challenging the clearly erroneous procedure.
- Eaststand, on 12/02/2007, -1/+18Thank god someone is taking a stand against these idiots, hopefully others will take the iniative now.
- katanaswordfish, on 12/02/2007, -0/+13I live in portland, and im proud of my home! =)
yay oregon! =D - Carv, on 12/02/2007, -1/+13Obligatory.
- Smight, on 12/02/2007, -0/+12Until three years ago at Oregon State your student id number which went on all paperwork, homework, and tests right next to your name was your social security number.
- jaymzdean, on 12/02/2007, -1/+11I can't believe what has become of my country.
- chubbybubba, on 12/02/2007, -3/+13What the hell is the RIAA thinking trying to spy on us? Thats the Governments job..
- CrimsonFate, on 12/02/2007, -0/+9I received an e-mail from my school stating that 150 students were identified by the RIAA for piracy - the University of Southern Maine. They then proceeded to tell us about Rhapsody while basically saying our asses were being handed over. Thanks, alma mater.
- CoolWind, on 12/02/2007, -0/+8I hope to God more good people begin to stand up for freedom in America.
Why should the US government give a damn about the RIAA or MPAA? Don't waste another dollar or another minute of our government's precious resources fighting file sharing.
And once we see how easy and painless it was to stop worrying about a few snotty artists and their greedy managers and distributors, we can re-evaluate the consequences of our war on drugs. And once we give up that destructive battle, we can begin to feel good about ourselves again. - ZachSka87, on 12/02/2007, -1/+9Because obviously all students are thieves. The RIAA would rather take away all federal funding and prevent people from ever becoming college students if it means they can support their dying business model just a little bit longer.
- jtmeyer, on 12/02/2007, -0/+7The RIAA is going to shrivel up eventually. EMI has taken a major step in helping that day come soon. Now it's time for the other labels to get on board and realize that the demographic that puts food on their tables doesn't like their support of an association that bullies, harasses, spies, exploits, sues and tries to deprive college students of federal funding for higher education.
have you written your letters yet? - inactive, on 12/02/2007, -0/+6RIAA has officially overreacted. Then again, they've been like that from the beginning.
- CharlesSaint, on 12/02/2007, -1/+7It's also good to know our government is right there with us defending students' rights to privacy ...

/sarcasm - Puppetfunk, on 12/02/2007, -0/+5***** yeah! Oregonians unite!
- t0ny, on 12/02/2007, -1/+6Is it possible to find out if the RIAA has my ssn? And if so can I take legal action?
I use my school's network for school stuff and browsing the web when I'm board, I've done nothing wrong and I hate the RIAA. - jtmeyer, on 12/02/2007, -0/+5that's the most horrible thing they've tried to pull yet.
- Saea, on 12/02/2007, -2/+7I find it ironic how we complain about the illigal things the RIAA practices to stop the illigal acts we all do.
Anyways, I love Oregon, its my home state, and down with the RIAA. - radiofrequency, on 12/02/2007, -1/+5Finally! Somebody stands up to RIAA and its illegal business practices!
- LeeSoong, on 12/02/2007, -0/+4All RIAA staff and associates are invited to North Korea,
where they will be the guest of honor
at a discussion about civil liberties.
The discussion will be held in a large public stadium,
RIAA vs. the North Korean Rifle Squad.
Drinks and refreshments served afterwards, and there will be Cake. - edwartica, on 12/02/2007, -0/+4I have so much pride in my State right now.
- jtmeyer, on 12/02/2007, -0/+3but what we do isn't harmful: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/11/05/birkbeck_c ...
and in fact, we probably help lots of smaller, independent bands.
what they do definitely is harmful. - LeeSoong, on 12/02/2007, -0/+3That makes about as much sense as Charmin toilet paper threatening Universities:
''All your students butts belong to Charmin, or we'll cut off your federal funds!""
RIAA needs to be shut down with RICO - their mafia tactics, threats, and strong arming shake downs deserve federal prison time. - jtmeyer, on 12/02/2007, -1/+4yeah, makefallopian is right... obviously their music isn't so crappy that nobody wants to hear it... and... well... fascist? .... i don't even know where to begin.
- RocketGib, on 12/02/2007, -0/+3I wrote my letter... Didn't get a reply... Probably because my Congresscritter already got purchased.
- edwartica, on 12/02/2007, -0/+3He should run for governor! I'll vote for him if he does!
- sock2828, on 12/02/2007, -0/+3I am proud to be an Oregonian
- latrosicarius, on 12/02/2007, -1/+3The RIAA does not care about someone sharing their SSN. I smell a BS excuse. That's like me (a complete stranger) coming to your house and trying to get your neighborhood home-owner's association to ban you from eating twinkies because its for your own good.
And even if one person does ACCIDENTALLY record an mp3 of himself saying his SSN and then ACCIDENTALLY putting it in his shared folder, it's his own fault and nobody else should give a *****. - AaronCo, on 12/02/2007, -0/+2Sounds like someone at the RIAA accidentally did this, now they assume it's easy to do. I think that alone demonstrates why they are losing the battle.
- edwartica, on 12/02/2007, -0/+2As someone who's lived in Oregon my entire life, and went to college at a state school, hooray!
- MikeFallopian, on 12/02/2007, -2/+4Two incredibly ignorant comments in a single sentence, well done.
- UnterDenLinden, on 12/02/2007, -0/+2Go Pre!
- bimtott, on 12/02/2007, -0/+1Me too. I hate Oregon State, though.
- WNW3, on 12/02/2007, -0/+1Go Ducks Ice Hockey!
- sporg, on 12/02/2007, -0/+1How about a fire at the RIAA headquarters?
- BiohazardJ, on 12/02/2007, -0/+1It is their turn to squirm. They can't settle with the AG to avoid this one.
- jtmeyer, on 12/05/2007, -0/+1illegal does not equal wrong. And there's no way to change the laws to fit the demands of the new structure if the new structure doesn't exist. The RIAA/Government isn't going to change until we force them to. We're not going to force them to change things if we just sit around and tell them "we're going to keep doing what you want, but dammit, we don't like it."
- cliffski, on 12/02/2007, -0/+1what do you think typing that childish scrawl achieves?
- cliffski, on 12/02/2007, -1/+2grow up.
- cliffski, on 12/02/2007, -0/+1yes all people who make music and charge money for it are evil bastards? .... ffs grow up and stop freeloading you dolt.
- cliffski, on 12/02/2007, -0/+1the right to steal music? thats a new one.
- diggsarah, on 12/03/2007, -0/+1Right now I'm quite proud to be an Oregonian. :)
- cliffski, on 12/02/2007, -0/+1whereas taking copyrighted music without paying is legal? hahahahahahahaha
- edwartica, on 12/02/2007, -0/+1I couldn't agree anymore. Wonder if this guy has any plans for running for governor.
- AceTracer, on 12/03/2007, -0/+1This kind of ***** doesn't play in Oregon at all. The state is -really- into freedom of speech and privacy rights and it shows in the state constitution.
- LeeSoong, on 12/02/2007, -2/+2Attempting to use government threats and military might to support an industry's profits = fascism.
Yup, that's about right - and that's about where RIAA wants the US of A - the government little more than the security guards at the Mall, boosting up dead product sales... -
