- crabbyclaw, on 03/28/2008, -0/+23Cliff notes c/p'd from the forum:
-New member regretfully posts that his car has been stolen by someone with a fake ID that took a permanent test drive. Describes vehicle and thief.
-Thief encounters another forum member at Chinook mall, member recognizes stolen vehicle as described in this post. Snaps pictures, posts on beyond. Recognized elsewhere even in a city with over a million people, thanks to internet exposure.
-Thief is found on facebook using said pictures, recognized by multiple members
-Full name, address, and workplace is found via facebook
-Multiple forum members drive to known address, car is parked outside
-Car disappears at some point.
-Another member drives by later, finds car. Boxes car in, calls cops, calls rightful owner
-Hilarity ensues
-Cops show up 2 hours later, pictures and youtube video posted of stolen car, and Dr. Claw the fail car thief getting arrested
-Car is now safe at home, back up for sale, with a new test drive policy. Bonus: Thief leaves $22 in change, and a ***** wanksta hat. - djepik, on 03/28/2008, -2/+17Video of the thief being caught:

Nice big T78 in it though. Mate had an R33 in the workshop with a T78 which was pushing about 700hp.
Although judging from the size of lobster boy, the fat pie needed a lot of horsies to get him round - crabbyclaw, on 03/28/2008, -2/+4Priceless video of the owner recording the thief getting arrested outside his house: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1T-kZ7pk1NU

Props to beyond.ca from pretty much every forum (automotive or not) on the bloody interweb.
I live in Calgary, and I'm proud to say that this isn't the first time Beyond.ca has delivered the goods on criminals.
Also, props to the CPS for getting that car back as quickly as they did.
Here is his facebook for anyone interested.

- inactive, on 03/29/2008, -0/+1Yeah it's called the hive mind, or being a sheep.
- coredump0x01, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1How about modifying a Taser by putting electrodes in the drivers seat, and the opposing electrodes on the steering wheel (or both electrodes in the seat, one for each butt cheek), then just turn it on while the car is unoccupied? The double-insulated wire that goes to the suction cup in CRT TVs and monitors is excellent for high voltage applications, just make sure the CRT is discharged before you go cutting the wire (they hold their high voltage charge after being switched off).
- ar0ne, on 03/29/2008, -0/+1Little blurb from the news... more at 6
