- bs0l, on 10/11/2007, -22/+390Why would anyone kill a hog of that size? Is he stupid? The hog is worth a lot more alive than dead. FOOL

- krellor, on 10/11/2007, -25/+227Yay, another miracle, 1 in a million chance of nature killed. Sorry if I can't summon too much enthusiasm.

- gnalakalaciath5, on 10/11/2007, -2/+187I must say, of all the wild hogs I saw today, this one takes the cake.
- ChromaVita, on 10/11/2007, -17/+191It appears to be part man, part bear...
- bonyicecream, on 10/11/2007, -7/+170That's one ***** big hog.
If I saw that and I were holding a pistol, I'd run. - ACrazyGerman, on 10/11/2007, -11/+166"HOLY ***** WHAT IS THAT! LETS EAT IT!"
Lewis Black - Eschel, on 10/11/2007, -19/+136I was thinking along similar lines.
It's classic humanity at work: "Look, it's something enormous, different, and probably on one of a kind! Let's kill it!"
Sad. - t1t0, on 10/11/2007, -1/+110"Pic! The largest wild Hog you will see today. astounding."
Honestly, it could have weighed 25 pounds, it would still have been the largest wild hog I'd seen today... - coyo7e, on 10/11/2007, -11/+120You live in Alabama. Your 11 yr old son comes in and says he saw a monster-sized boar. Do you..
A: Ignore him.
B: Go check.
C: Give him a .50 cal handgun and have him go shoot it.
PS: "Hogzilla" was the previous record-holding hog, which was only about 800 lbs apparently. It's also a cheap horror movie which is in production, I believe. - macgyber, on 10/11/2007, -4/+99Oh my gosh, could the man in the second photo possibly be the hog's father?
- BZKyle, on 10/11/2007, -8/+103He's from Alabama, give him some credit.

- jdent08, on 10/11/2007, -5/+79It's too bad he killed it.... that would have been something to see it alive.
- ScrabbyDoo, on 10/11/2007, -8/+76"That is truly awesome! A rare and unique specimen of the natural world that probably will never be seen again!
Let's kill it!" - dorkus999, on 10/11/2007, -0/+58That's no hog...that's a space station.

Thats all very well and good... but i would doubt you would have the same tone if you had one of these running towards you... - ganjadude4391, on 10/11/2007, -27/+69FTA:
The hog's head is now being mounted on an extra-large foam form by Cunningham of Jerry's Taxidermy in Oxford. Cunningham said the animal measured 54 inches around the head, 74 inches around the shoulders and 11 inches from the eyes to the end of its snout.
Mike Stone is having sausage made from the rest of the animal. "We'll probably get 500 to 700 pounds," he said.
So it was not just a glory kill, they are in fact going to eat the thing. Can we get over it now this animal lived a great life and now it is giving its single life to feed many lives. Its the circle of life, deal with it. - idonthack, on 10/11/2007, -3/+41Bacon smoothie.
- signal15, on 10/11/2007, -12/+44>Why was an eleven-year-old running around with a gun?
I was hunting when I was 11, and so were many of my friends. I'm not from Alabama though, I lived in the burbs of Minneapolis/St. Paul. I, like most of my friends would go on hunting trips with our dads, it was a common occurrence when I was a kid, and it's a common occurrence now. - spawnof, on 10/11/2007, -23/+55He said he shot the huge animal eight times with a .50-caliber revolver and chased it for three hours through hilly woods before finishing it off with a point-blank shot.
... 3 hours... this kid and his redneck dad should be tried for felony cruelty - cemeteralgarden, on 10/11/2007, -0/+31Two more pictures:

- xgenericx, on 10/11/2007, -8/+34@haveacigar
Well the hog was never running towards the kid... the article says the adults had high powered rifles in case the hog ever charged. In fact, the kid was the one doing the chasing the entire time, the hog was trying to stay alive, not trying to charge down the kid. - Buddhaismybuddy, on 10/11/2007, -29/+55@actorboy
Dude you are completely missing the point, you really think they are going to eat that thing? it was a sport kill, they killed probably the largest living wild boar. It was a one of a kind anomoly of an animal.
If you were hunting and you saw bigfoot would you kill it? I would hope not.
oh yeah, and dugg down for being a glutunous red-necked pig-headed ***** up - spargett, on 10/11/2007, -3/+29"Two more pictures:

Wow, I think the dad comes in at 2nd for the worlds largest hog. - DimensionalPunk, on 10/11/2007, -6/+32Wild? I don't think so. That thing was fattened up on a game preserve. Junior shot a tame animal with two guys standing behind him with high-powered rifles. That's not hunting.
- k1down, on 10/11/2007, -6/+30Woohoo! Something about my homestate that is finally appreciable! He kilt the hell outta that pig!

And BTW: we are not all hicks, but everyone but me does own a gun...

It would have been awesome to see that thing alive in the wild but nooooo some ***** hick had to ruin it.
(repost) - L4WL3RS34L, on 10/11/2007, -1/+22If you showed me any picture of a hog, even the smallest one ever, it'd still be the largest wild hog that I would see TODAY.
- DarkenKO, on 10/11/2007, -2/+22agreed, the pig from princess mononoke for sure! amazing!
- morsghost, on 10/11/2007, -6/+25Epic beast killed by a chubby redneck kid...for shame
- typ3, on 10/11/2007, -6/+25As an avid hunter I'm concerned that the boar was shot with a pistol.
IMHO a pistol should never be used when hunting for anything larger than a rabbit. There is no why that that boar was humanely killed (I know...potential contradiction) with any 'normal' (not completely bespoke) pistol.
Here in Canada hunting with a pistol is completely forbidden and for good reason--they are designed for self-defense not hunting. They are inaccurate, low powered, and plain silly. Given that many lower caliber *rifles* would have a hard time downing anything over 500 pounds, I can imagine how senselessly that animal suffered.
That said. All of you who are complaining about killing the boar: 1) Do you eat meat? 2) Does the meat you eat come from a farm? ... If you answered yes to these two questions than this is no different. This boar may have been killed by an 11 year old boy but it was raised on a farm and killed on a farm. I guarantee that to get to that size it had a much longer/more 'natural' life than any cow/chicken/pig/turkey/sheep you have ever eaten.
Vegans are completely non-hypocritical when knocking hunting. Everyone else would just rather someone else do the dirty work.
