- ZephyrNinety, on 10/10/2007, -1/+38Either way, you're still gonna piss it out and forget what happened last night.
- desistere, on 10/10/2007, -0/+29These lists are stupid because the most expensive item is always expensive because it's encrusted in diamonds.
- Jones82, on 10/10/2007, -0/+19Would could a man possibly gain by getting a woman intoxicated?
- lgc90, on 10/10/2007, -1/+18McLovin
- ttfadia, on 10/10/2007, -1/+17Gold flakes vodka...mmm...I love me some heavy metal poisoning (as if the hangover wasn't enough)
- theysayjump, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14#1 and #2 are quite impressive, but #3 is just tacky.
- xerox, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Its not the only drink with gold in it. There is all Goldschlager which is cinnamon schnapps.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goldschl%C3%A4ger - Error601, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8There's a noticeable difference in harshness between bottom shelf and top shelf, but I doubt you'll notice if you mix it with a lot of stuff. I usually get Absolute because it's still relative cheap but smooth enough for things like dry vodka martinis.
- webcure, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Diamonds in the vodka bottle are part of what makes these brands outrageous...
Let's put it this way, the women would love to drink this vodka. Get it? - MrZaiko, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6wtf...
- Urusai, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I don't know, but I bet it makes your poo sparkle.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5What's a Mac's dock?
- Kmack928, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7For sale in the US vodka must be a colorless, flavorless, odorless liquid. The differences between Mr. Lucky's Brand and say, Grey Goose, are almost entirely in marketing. The higher end vodkas are smoother, but barely, and it reallly doesnt justify the price difference. The one time I would reccommend going high end is for flavored Vodka, Bellvedere Pomerenca is awesome. Also, if you were going to drink straight vodka then perhaps a little higher end is better.
Don't fall for the stupid marketing tricks, find a different booze to prefer high end stuff. Scotch! mmmm now there the price differences are justifiable. - freddyisnot, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6The majority of vodka brands you see on the shelf are actually mass produced at three or four different factories (for example, Distilled Resources Inc. in Idaho). Brands purchase the same vodka in bulk, and then cuts it in their own way. Honestly, there is little to no difference between cheap vodka and the expensive stuff.
Wall Street Journal reference, "Make Mine a 020001" by Eric Felten (1 Sep. 2007) - desistere, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7All vodkas do not taste the same! In fact, the most expensive vodkas don't taste like anything. Vodka is usually judged by its purity (that's why they triple and quadruple filter it). All these girly fruit vodkas are exactly counter to the traditional purity of vodka and will make the hair fall out of your chest.
See the mythbusters episode where they try to purify vodka: http://mythbustersresults.com/episode68 - Error601, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Yea, but those are already the better ones. Get the $9/liter stuff and compare.
- bobertf, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3If you really want garlic-flavoured vodka, leave a bunch of garlic in regular vodka for a couple months, strain it and enjoy. I can't claim to have done this with garlic, but it works quite well with fruits like cranberries, apples, lemons and limes. Hibiscus flower too. Oh, and I made a batch of coffee-infused 151 rum. They all make great presents.
- skinrock, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3$12 for an 8-pack? Does this strike anyone else as not so expensive? Maybe they are "unique" vodkas...but I wouldn't go so far as to call this list "luxury vodkas".
- allywilson, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Y'see I don't get why Twistee's are on there. Might as well have put any of the VK alcopops as well (same company). Plus, a load of clubs went allout when these came out - and were stuck with a load of stock they couldn't shift. They kept them on the shelves not realising they have an early sellby date compared to other drinks. I seen a guy spew at the bar because the cream had congealed and he didn't realise until too late.
- Jones82, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3You mean the urban legend behind it?
- unearth, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Grey Goose does have the classy reputation, but its definitely not the best vodka for the price range (Skyy ftw). You're right though, it's all pretty much the same.
- bromac, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Those twistee shots are handy to have around later at parties.
My favorite? One half Sour Puss Green Apple, one half Fireball Cinnamon Shooter. It actually tastes like apple pie! - nairanvac, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Take a sip of vodka. Find a gold ring. Lick it. That's what they taste like.
- Cyberdactyl, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3It's been shown over and over and over again that mid-shelf vodka has very little to zero taste difference than ultra-premium brands.
Buying high end brands is merely another in the long list of consumer items that people purchase to show their status (or lack of consumer sense) - centran, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2You can make the cheap vodkas almost as good as the expensive ones. It is done by taking a simple brita water filter. You just put the same bottle through the filter 3-5 times. After about 5 passes with vodka the filter is useless but it does make cheap vodka comparable to expensive.
- Durrok, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I can't tell the difference. Smirnoff has a little more "vodka heat" but both taste exactly the same cooled in a freezer.
- Unclickable, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Outrageous consequences of not so luxurious vodka can be found in this video collection:
http://yuxt.com/artyso/Vodka - desqjockey, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Nothing says 'outrageous luxury' like a gun shaped bottle you buy on an army base.
- sittered, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2If you mean an iPod dock, then you are pretty much wrong.
- alansky, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2It has most definitely been proved (just look at the massive quantities of absurdly expensive crap that are successfully peddled to the super rich) that rich people have no taste. When they hire other people to choose for them, they do fine; but when they pick stuff out themselves, their cluelessness is embarrassing... or would be embarrassing if they were smart enough to be embarrassed.
- meatmcguffin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Why else put sharp pieces of jagged material in a drink? For college kids to look sophisticated and rich? Don't make me lau......oh
- xerox, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2You've just inspired a lot of nights I'm not going to remember, thank you.
- andyrobo60, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2http://www.edible.com/shop/browse.php?cmd=showproduct&productId=17
Thats an weird vodka and its not very expensive. - binorgog, on 08/07/2008, -0/+2Diva FTW
- maz2331, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Vodka is supposed to be as close to a pure mix of water and ethanol as possible. Distillation and filtering can turn even the cheap stuff into the top-tier rather easily, although it does cost a bit more to do so.
- kickelephant, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I wonder if the gun vodka company also makes an 8oz desert eagle, ya know, for states that have the concealed law.
- Zippo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Filtered through precious gems and still tasted like burning.
- Flashman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1'The “Gold Flakes Supreme” is ultra-premium vodka produced in France.' And yet it only costs $60 a bottle? Hardly 'ultra-premium'.
- Cyberdactyl, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Basically the 3 major contributing factors of hangover are:
-dehydration
-sugar
-constricted blood vessels
Premium vodka over cheap vodka (with the same alcohol percentage) has virtually no difference. Of course a flavored vodka could have potentially high sugar content. Far and away the best anti-hangover remedy is drinking as much water as you can stomach before passing out. . . :-) - desmondregan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1superbad much?
- lcmatt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I love they make things expensive by putting diamonds etc in them (See the most expensive deserts article on here a while back)
"Hey this is the most expensive tap water. Why? Because its got a £500k diamond in it" ..... - gerbil20, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Of course I shall trust you over my lying taste buds.
Premium vodka has no taste. The cheaper the vodka, the more "taste"(and also aftertaste and headache) you get. Believe me, in my student years I had a chance to consume some low-to-middle priced vodkas in fancy bottles. I know the difference. - aizlewood, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1None of them will have a patch on the stuff Netto sell.
- themastersb, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I've actually drank the "Yin Yang" one
- cuoops, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Vodka was considered rotgut until James Bond made it famous. Vodka is Vodka, unless you start adding things to it.
http://abcnews.go.com/2020/Story?id=3201973&page=1 - locojones, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1All vodkas taste the same, don't be fooled by the marketing. By federal law, to be called a vodka, it has to be a tasteless and odorless spirit.
- grav3k33p3r, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Has anyone tried tasting gold flakes? How does it taste?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1A fool and his money are soon parted.
- viniciusfontes, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Oh, come on. Absolut simply can't be compared to Smirnoff.
- VBShadow, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I wish I could digg you up more than once.
