Several years ago I used to chill with some people that had one of those large, carpeted cat boxes (the thing they can scratch and climb on/get into, etc), the opening of which was just large enough to wedge a basketball into. The space for the cat was WAY bigger than 6"x12", however. Definitely enough room for the cat to move around. Anyway, these guys used to get the cat in there and blow 10 or 12 shotguns in there, using the basketball to keep the smoke in. Wait 15 seconds, let the cat out, and enjoy. It got the point where the cat would _want_ to get baked in the 'kittybong' as you call it and would voluntarily enter. The cat was not abused and remained as cheerful and friendly towards people as ever. Was one of the coolest cats I've ever known.

It is possible to build a gravity bong that's an actual bong, if you give it a long downstem cut just short of the sides of the plastic jug you used, but chances are you'll accidentally push down on it at some point and wet your bud.
