*some restrictions apply - seltaeb4, on 02/26/2009, -2/+47He's just really into blazin'.
- inactive, on 02/26/2009, -3/+42Why is growing pot at home a federal offense? "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."
- andersleet, on 02/26/2009, -5/+37no, the law should be exempt from existence because it is short-sighted, and does not work at all.
except pissing everyone off. - bryantee, on 02/26/2009, -2/+31Oh my god! A firefighter likes to get high? What's next? Are you going to tell me doctors and professors get high, too?
- inactive, on 02/26/2009, -3/+29Since I'm not a power user, I have no chance of getting an article submitted so I figured I'd just link to a related article here. Apparently, NJ Gov. Corzine says he'd "absolutely" sign a medical marijuana bill if it were placed on his desk. Definate progress is being made here.
http://www.newsday.com/news/local/wire/newjersey/n ... - blckt, on 02/26/2009, -1/+22The DEA claims to get its power from the Commerce Clause, as drugs are ostensibly traded across borders.
***** THE DEA! - Hetman, on 02/26/2009, -2/+19Unless you were Black, Asian, Mexican, Irish, native america, or a women. But yea besides minorities and women, this was the land of the free. I also forgot children, there were no child labor laws 200 years ago. But yea if you were a white protestant male, it was the land of the free.
- wsteele, on 02/26/2009, -3/+19Take that 9/11 heroes!
/s - RepublicofJosh, on 02/26/2009, -3/+17Yeah Sure they start as plants but they go through a process the become the coke and heroin you see on the street.
Marijuana on the other hand...you take the bud off the plant...and you smoke it.
It's a gift from nature/God/whatever you want to believe in. - CUGI08, on 02/26/2009, -3/+17What? Firefighters are just regular people? That just blew my mind....
- kevbryant, on 02/26/2009, -3/+16for god's sakes, leave people alone.
- Hetman, on 02/26/2009, -1/+14People are lazy though. Tomatos are really easy to grow and they taste a lot better than anything you can get at a store. How many people do you know who grows tomatos?
- kev0476, on 02/26/2009, -0/+13*Void where prohibited.
- Manther, on 02/26/2009, -4/+16No, we shouldn't have absurd laws that turn good people into criminals for growing plants that don't hurt anyone.
The law isn't the answer in this case, it's the problem. - aimhelix, on 02/26/2009, -1/+13"Controlled Substance" ie. Plant.
- TritonX, on 02/26/2009, -2/+14I'm all for the legalization of those plants for personal use. Now lets see the crack and cokeheads try to grow their own :P, they might get their fix once a year maybe. Not breaking the law is not as simple as it sounds. Once you start thinking by yourself, you discover that the law is not infallible and not the absolute expression of justice.
- hamhat, on 02/26/2009, -3/+14The laws about this are only made to benefit a small minority; basically the police and those that own the prisons. This is just yet another sad story in an ongoing assault (70+ years now) on the people of the US.
I see stories on herb here on Digg an awful lot, but reading about it and clicking a few links wont end this. Hundreds of thousands of people marching in Washington might help get the ball rolling, tho'. Maybe some of the states with smaller populations can get folks to vote on the medical MJ, that seems to at least get folks aware of its benefits and add some to the tax base..
I think 13 states have medical MJ laws on the books - if I'm wrong then I stand corrected.
It would be pretty cool if that 13 could become 25 or more, that would really be a big push towards some sort of reasonable national policy....
I'd hope so, anyway..we dont have the money to piss away on this, and in fact it costs us so much from the wasted lives and resources that we just need to stop this right now.
/end rant - who am I kidding, I never stop - headgames, on 02/26/2009, -2/+12STOP THE WAR legalize this plant.....what is wrong with people? Are we so brained washed by the government (reefer madness) that we believe everything they push down our throats? Wake up people, you are being taken in by the big pharma, lumber industry, and alcohol suppliers.LEGALIZE HEMP
- fknrat, on 02/26/2009, -1/+11Seriously? There's nothing more important to tackle than a firefighter who's growing weed - a plant that's not even as harmful as alcohol.
- wardsac, on 02/26/2009, -0/+10*Offer not available in all areas.
- WindWalker84, on 02/26/2009, -2/+11you missed the very first step.
step 0: take something that's perfectly harmless and make it against the law. for no good reason.
now you see the problem.
so...let's pretend:
Step 0: Make ice cream illegal.
Step 1: You are now aware that ice cream is illegal (but harmless and safe)
Step 2: You eat the ice cream anyway
Step 3: You get in trouble for something ridiculously stupid.
Still don't see the problem?
but it's against the law to eat ice cream, therefore ice cream must be bad! - chanop, on 02/26/2009, -1/+10When they weight it (for a fact in NY), they weigh everything. They'll put the pot, soil, and entire plant on a scale. Notice how they don't mention how many plants there were? It could have been 5 plants in large pots.
- joerod, on 02/26/2009, -1/+10"If you don't like my fire, then don't come around cause I'm gonna burn one down." - Ben Harper
- stellarceltic, on 02/26/2009, -4/+13I don't necessarily disagree, but then what's the point of mentioning he puts his life on the line?
The law is the law, regardless of your profession. - RansomHoldiay, on 02/26/2009, -2/+11sad.
- Wakkyweed, on 02/26/2009, -0/+8*If you are under age 18, you must ask your parents for permission.
- jseres, on 02/26/2009, -0/+8No, ***** you.
- Snoogs, on 02/26/2009, -0/+8Not available with other offers, see Constitution for details.
- OneRottenTomato, on 02/26/2009, -0/+8Ok, I may be skimming through the article too fast, but where in the heck does it even mention pot?
- wardsac, on 02/26/2009, -1/+9I think I saw this episode of "House". It's some kind of organism in the water supply that's killing him.
Wait, that was a cop I think.... - dancantone, on 02/26/2009, -1/+8Big Deal...leave pot smokers and growers alone.
- Qumahlin, on 02/26/2009, -3/+10@stellarceltic
The point of mentioning his profession is much the same as the Michael Phelps situation. The war on drugs only continues because there are enough idiots who actually think that Marijuana is worse than alcohol and that anyone using Marijuana can't be an upstanding citizen or hold down a real job.
It's a safe assumption that if he was selling it, he was smoking it as well and still had no problem being a firefighter saving peoples lives. - bobburn1, on 02/26/2009, -0/+7Another thing FDR ***** Americans on
- Cashed420, on 02/26/2009, -2/+9Guess what, I'm 28, and smoke pot. I also make about 80,000 a year fixing sewer systems. SO STFU if you don't have a clue what you are talking about. If someone can drink after they work hard all day, I should be able to smoke a joint. At least I won't get mean like you do from drinking, start fights in bars, and abuse my wife.

yeah, the list goes on. Point being there's nothing wrong with Marijuana. - Manther, on 02/26/2009, -2/+8he's not an arsenist fireman, firefighters don't arrest drug dealers....please explain how this could be a conflict of interest??
- bryantee, on 02/26/2009, -0/+6Wait, so you're saying even laws that we fundamentally disagree with we must consider them just and remain acquiescent? Remember the Stamp Act.
- erasedgod, on 02/26/2009, -1/+7What about those of us that choose not to, but still want people to be able to if they so choose?
I don't like people who are douchebags, but I wouldn't try to take away your right to be one. - bobburn1, on 02/26/2009, -0/+6It doesn't. There is no mention of pot at all. This guy is just a complete racist who seems to believe that all black people are drug dealers. ***** you captricflies, take your bigotry and shove it.
- kpkpkp, on 02/26/2009, -0/+6To cast the issue slightly differently, let's pretend that apple seeds are illegal - they contain trace amounts of dangerous compounds. Now let's pretend you have just been busted for growing apple seeds, and they decide that they will weigh the entire tree... See the trouble there?
100 pounds of cannabis plant (the roots, stalk, stems, leaves) is not the same as 100 pounds of (manicured and dried) marijuana.
There's no mention in the press coverage of the number of plants, ceiling height or square footage, but this kind of inflated weight comes from weighing the entire grow, not the cured buds. Fresh green buds lose about 2/3 of their weight in the curing process.
My guess would be, of the 100 pounds being quoted, at best perhaps 2 or 3 pounds of marijuana would result. - gijoeler, on 02/26/2009, -1/+7I respect this guys entrepreneurial spirit and don't think he did anything wrong. Why should the CEO of Marlboro get to ride around in a fancy car, live in a nice house and be considered a successful business man? This guy sells a substance that's significantly less harmful and hes considered a felon. The logic is non sensible.
- mjk340, on 02/26/2009, -1/+6@bryantee
Don't equate marijuana with heroin or any other substance. That's like saying chinese firecrackers should be illegal because nuclear bombs are bad for the community. - Skishy101, on 02/26/2009, -0/+5I think right now its the lobbyists for the big pharmaceuticals that are keeping marijuana illegal. They would loose billions when the majority of patients drop their prescriptions for marijuana.
I just watched these two documentaries last night. They are very good. I highly recommend these to everyone:
http://video.google.com/videosearch?q=waiting+to+i ... Waiting to inhale
http://blip.tv/file/1356143/ The Union: The business behind getting high - RepublicofJosh, on 02/26/2009, -1/+6@Lindenworld, that's a bad analogy and here's why:
Marijuana harms nobody else but possibly you. (even though most studies show marijuana is good for your health I'm not going to make too huge a leap for you)
Driving fast can possibly harm you, or infringe on somebody else's right to live.
So going faster than the speed limit is actually more harmful than marijuana...but who get's ticketed and who gets 5-40 years in prison?
Let's change these absurd laws. The United States are still a democratic republic. - Cashed420, on 02/26/2009, -1/+6I agree, but maybe if the IRS wasn't crippling our economy he wouldn't be selling it, just smoking it. Come on, like you wouldn't do the same thing to make sure your family had it good. I'm sure he's not selling it to kids, and he isn't going to kill anyone. You are right though not all potheads are good people, but neither are priests for that matter.
- Hetman, on 02/26/2009, -1/+6We have methodone clinics in Chiago. From what I see those neighberhoods are better than the neighborhoods where people go to buy herion. Just because something is legal, that does not mean there is 0 regulation. If we set up places like Methodone clinics where people must show up consistently and we offer therapy it will not be that bad. Not nearly as bad as a bunch of gangs/addicts hanging on the street corner shooting each other for prime drug dealing spots.
- WindWalker84, on 02/26/2009, -2/+7rjey:
The dude was growing 100 pounds of pot because it is not available anywhere else for a good price.
If you could go to a gas station or store and pick up a box of joints or a bag of weed, there would be no need to establish these clandestine grow operations, as they would no longer be profitable. - crazy0, on 02/26/2009, -1/+6i hope the hater who "tipped" the fuzz gets hit and dragged by a car today...
