        I've seen Americans wearing US flag badges on Australia Day. I was not offended, I understood how patriotism comes blindly and is purely based on the country you were born in. I think Australia is the greatest country in the world, and I put up with Americans saying that America is, just as you should put up with me saying Australia is. Of course there is no way to prove it, we can both use stats and figures, but it just comes down to blind patriotism.

        Wearing the UK flag in the US on July 4th has a certain subtle humour to it. Some well adjusted people would laugh, some, like you, would get all patriotic and offended. Wearing a shirt like you suggest would just make you look like a prick to everyone.

I will not salute their flag, but I will show respect by standing quietly. There is no real reason not to. Besides, it avoids unnecessary conflict. I'm sure that "dick with no balls" (how eloquent you are) had no idea you weren't American when he scolded you, but would it have hurt to show a little respect?

          Having the money to pay for healthcare doesn't mean you have the money to pay for it twice. Which is exactly what would happen if you were paying the increased taxes for universal healtcare and paying for private healthcare as well.

        I still fail to see how losing to Hitler's army would bring us all under Soviet control. I dunno, it just doesn't make sense to me, what with the Soviets being on the allied side during WWII.

        Perhaps if the US never existed, the Soviets may have become the dominant superpower after WWII but that's too much speculation. Who knows if the UK would be technologically superior like the US was.
        But djphatjive's comment has plausibility in it. If the US was under UK rule, you would have free universal health care.

The US and Canada helping out was responsible in great part for the fall of Hitler.       So I did, I wore a very tasteful union jack shirt, and baseball cap. I also handed out tea to everyone in the office. I almost put a sign on each teabag saying 'Tax Free, please don't throw in the harbour' but that would have taken way too much time.

      Everyone thought it was all very amusing, and certainly if anyone was offended by my admittedly not too subtle attempt at humour they never complained to me.

      So I say congratulations on your independence, and hooray to the people who can take a joke.

        National debt is tiny (when compared to America)
        The trade devecit is stable (finally)

        So what was your point again. I am not saying everything is perfect, but overall things could be a lot worse

          Strange that the warm beer thing has lasted this long. Anyone who has visited the UK would know that 90% of the pints sold in pubs are largers, Ice cold.

          There are certain beers that should be drank at cellar temperature (NOT warm), this is because a lot of taste is smell, and serving it cold ruins the flavour, the same as with red wine.
          Pubs in England don't serve warm beer unless it's a specialty beer, which pubs do often get on a 'guest ale' basis, changing which local brew it is every few weeks.

          Even some beers that shouldn't are starting to get served at 'extra cold' temperatures. Next time you're over here try a John Smiths extra cold, then try a regular John Smiths. The regular one is far, far better.
