- fakesinatra, on 04/24/2009, -2/+111Dear Associated Press:
Don't publish a story about an old safe being found unless the safe has been OPENED and the contents revealed. Without knowing what's inside the safe this story is about as interesting as finding a soiled mattress. - mattwilson, on 04/24/2009, -2/+40A smaller safe?
- Mattlikespeople, on 04/24/2009, -1/+30Yo dawg...
- SirBruce, on 04/24/2009, -0/+26"Dodd said the safe could be auctioned off for charity or the men who found it could open it themselves. He says the latter option probably would require cutting into the safe."
Probably. Or Dodd said he might instead try using the sheer power of the mind to phase his molecules through the metal side of the safe and pull out the contents. He's still debating which approach to take. - RetroRufio, on 04/25/2009, -0/+20So I put a safe inside your safe so your safe would be safe.
- KatherineVolk, on 04/24/2009, -4/+22The story is most likely photoshopped.
- slvrbullet87, on 04/24/2009, -0/+17I am betting it is Jimmy Hoffa
I will be right one of these times - elnerdo, on 04/25/2009, -0/+17Hope they open it instead of going through the trouble of x-raying it.
- cam0man, on 04/25/2009, -0/+16obviously the police were called?? WHY?
finders keepers! - inactive, on 04/24/2009, -3/+19When my dad was growing up in Belfast during the 60's, he and his sisters were playing in the stream behind their house, and they found a hugte safe which had been tossed into the stream from the bridge, presumably by a passing car. Obviously, the police were called, and they took it away, but they never found out what was inside it. :O
- bundwallah, on 04/24/2009, -0/+15Maybe Geraldo can do a special on it? Like he did with Al Capone's tunnells. YAWNNNNN...
- commentposted, on 04/25/2009, -0/+12...I heard you like safes...
- JakeBC, on 04/25/2009, -1/+12Somebody call Geraldo Rivera!
- dzieger, on 04/25/2009, -0/+10Put your ear up to the safe...I bet you'll hear someone singing faintly -- "...hello my baby, hello my honey, hello my ragtime gal..."
Seriously, a 100 year old safe, 55 comments on this thread, and not one Michigan J. Frog reference? I am old or are you guys lame? - inactive, on 04/25/2009, -2/+12for *****'s sake open it and TELL ME WHAT'S INSIDE
- MattB123, on 04/24/2009, -0/+9Now I won't be able to sleep!
- MadEnvoy, on 04/24/2009, -0/+8...and not knowing what soiled it.
- commentposted, on 04/25/2009, -1/+8Russian Doll Effect.
- scarwars, on 04/25/2009, -0/+7A few years ago a couple of my mates bought a bar and were busy rebuilding the place when they found a safe under the kitchen floor.
We were called up to see if we could open the thing but the thing was shut solid.
So someone decided to call a guy with one of those thermal blowtorches (no idea what it was) and by then a whole crowd was standing around us. And we were pretty hyped up on what we would find inside.. We knew from the previous owner (who had the place for 15 years) that the owner before that was arrested for fraud and died in jail years ago.
So we were already thinking what we could buy from the money we would find inside the safe and making plans for luxury vacations..
Untill about half an hour later when the thermo-dude finally burned through the safe and opened it.. and found the safe's manual inside it. - Rivetgeek, on 04/25/2009, -0/+7*pssst xrays dont go through steel too well*
- wizardzatz, on 04/25/2009, -1/+7Porn?
- spargonaut, on 04/25/2009, -1/+6pics or it didn't happen.
- 666300, on 04/24/2009, -0/+5Yea, I would open it immediatley. It's not even that hard to cut through a safe with the right tools.
- cowsgonemadd3, on 04/25/2009, -2/+6Uh....I would have opened it BEFORE calling the police because for all you know it was empty and that would just be a waste to get the police out for a empty safe.
- Libertaire, on 04/25/2009, -0/+4Maybe a Sasquatch in there.
- weegee, on 04/25/2009, -1/+5http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5L20vWjMUA#t=1m15s
- aramova, on 04/25/2009, -1/+5The reflections are all wrong, obviously photoshopped.
http://xkcd.com/331/ - bubba9999, on 04/25/2009, -0/+4video - that thing's freaky looking.
http://cfc.ktul.com/videoondemand.cfm?id=38740 - NoamChimpsky, on 04/25/2009, -0/+4He only sings when the safe is opened, and then for only one person.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QGE8wVTvHF0 - Zaxcomp, on 04/25/2009, -1/+5Apparently you missed the whole point of his statement entirely. This safe story is absolutely non-interesting without knowledge of the contents, exactly like a story about a soiled mattress would be. Think of it like pics or didn't happen.
- jhandfield, on 04/24/2009, -0/+3Reminds me of a theater I used to work at that had an old safe built into one of the interior walls from when the theater was built (late 20's, I think) that the combination to had been long since lost. Always wondered what was in there...
- ComicChic, on 04/25/2009, -1/+4Attempt at humor in the subheading: FAIL.
- cyrix, on 04/25/2009, -0/+3Coulda had a combo lock and they didn't have access to the necessary tools to get in otherwise.
- NoamChimpsky, on 04/25/2009, -0/+3A soiled mattress?
- freshyill, on 04/24/2009, -3/+6you are really a spammer.
- Drull, on 04/25/2009, -4/+7Read it again *****
- syntaxgs, on 04/25/2009, -4/+6Ok drull,,,, but what was In Side it,,,?
P,S, I Don,t Apreciate the real life cuss word =/ - inactive, on 04/25/2009, -0/+2 Empty money pouches and a couple rolls of pennies.
- haikuFU, on 04/26/2009, -0/+2The video posted above is showing a turn of the century bank safe. They were made like that because it made it more difficult to dynamite open. Most banks had a similar one in their vaults. There is probably only about 1 cu. ft. of space inside that thing.
They are probably not going to have a lot of luck getting it open with a torch. And if the mechanism in the door is completely rusted, they are not going to have an easy time opening the door by just cutting it open to where the lock mechanism is. About the easiest way to get into it is going to be a 4" hole saw with special coatings through the back of it. - inactive, on 04/25/2009, -0/+2i bet McGiver could get into the safe with a toilet paper tube and string, no cutting needed.
- crossmr, on 04/25/2009, -0/+2It is good to see that Digg is an equal opportunity website and provides opportunities for the mentally challenged to front page stories.
- twitrock, on 04/25/2009, -6/+8that bitch wears underwear with the dickholes in 'em.
- mrgreenjeans, on 04/25/2009, -0/+2I bet he can't go a day without thinking what a disaster that was.
Wow, it was 1986. - Handonam, on 04/25/2009, -1/+2wtf, syntaxgs dugg UP?
- DulcetTone, on 04/25/2009, -0/+1Do you think a photo might have spiced this up, AP?
- mrgreenjeans, on 04/25/2009, -0/+1I don't know if I should digg you up for so concisely describing Heroes or down for the fact that you still watch it.
I gave up on it a while back. - neom, on 04/25/2009, -0/+1And in other news...
......... - bitweever, on 04/25/2009, -0/+1I've been seeing this off of the 169 and 51 interchange. There's a sign that hangs over it, but part of it is obscured by the safe.
- dzieger, on 04/26/2009, -0/+1true...I was just looking for more creative turn of phrase than "The singing frog from that cartoon is in there."
Still, you are technically correct -- the best kind of correct. - danielorbital, on 04/25/2009, -0/+1Syntaxgs ladies and gentleman!
