- miwingman, on 07/11/2009, -2/+12Apparently Ms. Kennedy believes that Catholic theology is based on liberal popularity. Has she ever read the Bible? Does she know how stupid she sounds?
- phydeaux70, on 07/11/2009, -1/+7Utter nonsense. Newsweek publishes crap like this and they wonder why their subscription base keeps getting smaller. When did this tripe become the spokesperson for Catholics in the U.S.?
- Madrigalian, on 07/11/2009, -1/+5What complete garbage, who wrote this crap? What the ***** is wrong with Newsweek?
- poimenJohn, on 07/11/2009, -2/+6There is a bit of truth illustrated in this article - just a bit. Obama represents, well, lets just say the political forces who supported his election. The Pope represents God; but in point of fact, he also got his job through a political process. If American Catholics would like to be represented by either of these men, that's just fine. But they would be much better off if they were represented by Jesus Christ, because He can actually do them some good.
- woodrow8292, on 07/11/2009, -1/+5As a Catholic myself I don't always agree with what the Church teaches. But I do know that someone who is pro-choice "we don't want to punish them with a baby" and seems to see no problem with destroying embryos for research will never be more "Catholic" than the Pope. Just another liberal hit job.
- Stevanoski, on 07/11/2009, -1/+4The mainstream media has never really understood Christianity so we can't blame them for not researching or even hiring someone who is a Christian to edit religious stories. That would mean they actually care about the news instead of just caring about an agenda.
- pbd1637, on 07/12/2009, -1/+3FTA - In truth, though, Obama's pragmatic approach to divisive policy (his notion that we should acknowledge the good faith underlying opposing viewpoints) and his social-justice agenda reflect the views of American Catholic laity much more closely than those vocal bishops and pro-life activists.
Obama's pragmatic approach is that the government should force people to "do the right thing" based on the ideals of the politicians. Catholics believe we have a moral obligation to help each other, and we do. We help our community without the strong arm of a politician who has a different agenda; to get reelected.
Obama's stand on abortion is not only unconstitutional, it is immoral. And as the leader of the free world, he is a poor example of a leader and as a Christian.
P.S. I wouldn't use Newsweek to wipe my ass if I was trapped in a log cabin in a blizzard with severe diarrhea and nothing to eat but ten pounds of prunes and a dozen bran muffins. - ObamaFTL, on 07/12/2009, -1/+2There are no liberal Democrat Catholics..period...They might say they are Catholic, but anyone who votes for and supports any candidate that allows abortion on demand is not Catholic, and is not Christian.
Obama is a MUSLIM and proves it every day by attempting to destroy the U.S. economy, bowing to Muslim leaders and selling out Israel. - foucaultsvac, on 07/13/2009, -0/+1Trash article.
- independents, on 07/12/2009, -2/+2Newsweek is a Progressive rag read only by the Fruits, Nuts, Flakes and Freaks.....
