- blah247, on 05/21/2008, -4/+16When you hear American Football you think NFL... inversely you hear NFL you know it's Football. There are people who refer to all Soda as 'Coke' even if it's Pepsi. It's just name brand recognition and MMA wouldn't be where it is today without the UFC.

As I said below, there has never been a death, or even a crippling injury in a sanctioned MMA match. People die in sanctioned boxing matches every year. Boxers suffer from the effects of constant blows to the head in retirement (many before they even retire).
MMA is a much safer sport than boxing, and the facts/data bear this out. My son is fighting in his first match Friday.
