1. Sarah Palin - Tonkatsu, on 09/02/2008, -5/+46Buried for dissing River Tam.
- Mangotastic, on 09/01/2008, -1/+40i think they forgot every bond girl ever. basically they turn up, do the whole strong woman feminist thing, but then 007 has to save them somehow every time, and always has his wicked way. "oooh James" lol
- gubbie, on 09/02/2008, -2/+35"Poor man's Sean Bean"?
*****, Faramir was awesome and so was Eowyn. - analreceiver, on 09/01/2008, -9/+40Eowen shouldn't be on this list, she has nothing to do with hollywood, besides, her "You go girl! moment" as they call it was pure awesome.
- jtbell04, on 09/02/2008, -1/+31You spelled "terrifies" wrong.
- redfred18t, on 09/01/2008, -3/+30dugg for "It's fine, we can just keep having picnics until you're old enough to drink."
- sykotic, on 09/02/2008, -4/+31Not digging. Do not put down Firefly...
- lordtyros, on 09/02/2008, -2/+26How refreshing! I was wondering how this nonpolitical article could be made even better and here it is!
- moogle516, on 09/02/2008, -5/+28"Why do all the boys want a piece of her sweet, boobless ass?"
What is this *****, it makes me so angry. A lot of people find Keira knightly to be ***** hot. Not everyone equates boobs with hottness.
The author needs to go drink some bleach for all im concerned. - mewho, on 09/02/2008, -0/+21Seriously. Everyone knows that Firefly's feminist was Zoe. (Although Inara is a good representative of the so-called lipstick feminism, where prostitution is seen as a woman taking total control of her body--using her body for her own purpose and as a tool for her own success.)
- Kisama, on 09/01/2008, -6/+24I'd have paid good money to see that montage of Whedon pimp-slapping every female on the set.
- uriman, on 09/02/2008, -1/+15Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor : Terminator 2: Judgment Day = Awesome
- OfNumbers, on 09/02/2008, -2/+156: Rachel Dawes.
- evanct, on 09/02/2008, -1/+13from the book:
"Hinder me? Thou fool. No living man may hinder me."
..
"But no living man am I! You look upon a woman. Eowyn I am, Eomund's daughter. You stand between me and my lord and kin. Begone, if you be not deathless! For living or dark or undead, I will smite you, if you touch him."
although she doesn't stab him in the face until a few moments of battle later. - UNCCEJ1010, on 09/02/2008, -1/+12For the record, she wasn't able to kill the Witch King because she's a woman. She was able to kill the witch king because the sword with which Merry hits him is enchanted specifically to kill him.
From the wiki:
"As the Witch-king hovered over Théoden, Éowyn, disguised as a man, stood in his way. The Witch-king broke her arm and her shield with a blow from his flail. Before he could finish her off, Merry plunged his enchanted sword into the back of his knee. Merry's sword had been forged by the men of Arnor long ago, who put spells on it for the ruin of Angmar. Tolkien writes that only such a sword could have wounded the Witch-king so. Éowyn rose and thrust her sword into the Witch-king's face; as her sword shattered, his clothing fell to the ground and he vanished with a wailing cry.
Here the prophecy of Glorfindel was fulfilled after a fashion; he had fallen not by "the hand of man", but by those of a woman and a hobbit. (Tolkien elsewhere says Hobbits are in fact a "variety"[7] or separate "branch"[8] of humans, though they consider themselves a separate race.) It is worth noting that the Witch-king interprets Glorfindel's words to mean he cannot be killed (and "hindered"), but Glorfindel actually says he will die, just not by "the hand of man"."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Witch-king_of_Angmar - final_sound, on 09/02/2008, -3/+14That was a very poor reading of the Eowyn character. If they were half-literate they would have noticed quite a bit more depth to her. But I guess hey, if I had to churn out crappy lists day after day I'd start to get lazy to.
- OSXpert, on 09/02/2008, -1/+9I disagree with River Tamm. The reason River is being saved for 5 of the 13 episodes is because its the first season. Had the show been given enough time to actually have character arcs, there is no doubt that River would have been a supreme ass kicker. How terrible that Joss wanted to give her an interesting backstory...
- ishotthedoor, on 09/02/2008, -1/+8Yea, Leia can remember her mother from her childhood in Return of the Jedi. I think she remembers her being really sad. This couldn't have happened if Padme died in childbirth. If it did then Luke should remember her too.
- Dysarthria, on 09/02/2008, -1/+7Correction:
Eowyn was invented by Tolkien, not Hollywood, was played true to the book and I found her to be a great character. The same can't be said of the part of Arwen (Liv Tyler) which bastardized "Fellowship" so badly most familiar with the books winced watching her stand on the river banks shouting at the Nazgul. Arwen=biggest mistake Jackson made in making his epic trilogy. That Eowyn was so good proved Arwen to be utterly unneeded. - inactive, on 09/02/2008, -0/+6They did cut the most important part of her story from the movie.
"I will be a shieldmaiden no longer, nor vie with the great Riders, nor take joy only in the songs of slaying. I will be a healer, and love all things that grow and are not barren." - SuperCow1127, on 09/02/2008, -0/+6Let's also not forget that Serenity's first mate was an ass kicking female who had to constantly coddle her pussy-ass husband.
- visionaryIX, on 09/02/2008, -2/+8Is there a single digg article without any reference to Sarah Palin?
- gsthomas606, on 09/02/2008, -3/+8I'm surprised they left of keira knightley in king arthur when they made her boobs bigger in the poster.
- DismantleRepair, on 09/02/2008, -2/+7Doesn't the part about Padme dying on the operating table contradict how the events are told in one of the films in the original trilogy?
- TBITS, on 09/02/2008, -1/+6Dissing River is a bad idea she can kill you wither her brain and/or math.
- oblivionatm, on 09/02/2008, -1/+6Whoever doesn't think River Tam is awesome can go straight to hell. Crazy is not a solely feminine affliction. I myself have been known to hear the voices occasionally, and that only adds to multi-layered awesomeness.
- inactive, on 09/01/2008, -2/+6really formulaic way!
- alexforcefive, on 09/02/2008, -1/+5Monsemaster can keep sea-flies out?
- inactive, on 09/02/2008, -0/+3Seems like the author was looking for the negative and ignoring the positive. These characters were strong and stood up for themselves, that's a pretty good attempt at feminism. Much better than most of the drivel that Hollywood cranks out. Buried.
Eowyn was a woman of great passion and strength, were it not for her the Witch-king of Angmar would not have been killed. Where would that leave all the other characters?
Padme Amidala was a strong woman, she did things that most of the male characters were unable to do. So she died, everybody dies. What she accomplished before she died was what counted, including giving birth to Leia and Luke. Where would Star Wars be without Leia and Luke?
River Tam? The author could not have been farther off base. Of course she was vulnerable when she first escaped the Alliance facility, anybody and everybody would have been vulnerable after going through what she went through. In the end, she was the ultimate weapon. 'nuff said.
I'll concede the authors comments on Catwoman. She is the epitome of the femme fatale, right behind Catherine Tramell.
There's nothing wrong with the Elizabeth Swan character in Pirates of the Caribbean. The true problem, as the author pointed out, is that she is essentially the only female character in the film. The film was set in the 1700s (?), what more could you ask of a female character in those days? Really, there was only one Joan of Arc. - alexforcefive, on 09/02/2008, -1/+4yes. since the 80s.
- TBITS, on 09/02/2008, -0/+3do you forget the unisex rescue team? Wash kicked ass in his own snarky remark filled way.
- OneLess, on 09/02/2008, -1/+4I thought she was just pointing out that Keira Knightley's ass doesn't have its own set of *****.
- jessehadden, on 09/02/2008, -0/+3"I'm a leaf on the wind! Hear me -- auuuunghaaaaa..."
- cheekdog, on 09/02/2008, -3/+6dugg for padme/amidala!! she went from kinda strong to a pile of jello. ICK!!!
- OneLess, on 09/02/2008, -1/+3The hours approaching, to give it your best
You've got to reach your prime!
That’s when you need to put yourself to the test,
And show us the passage of time.
We're going to need a montage! - TheR3dMenace, on 09/02/2008, -2/+4mmmm, topical
- TwoKill, on 09/02/2008, -4/+6Worse cracked list ever. The author basically dissed 2 of the most bad ass women ever created in stories, and Pirates didn't have a weak female character its just that the whole series went downhill after the first one.
- cknyan, on 09/02/2008, -2/+4"Witch King: No man can slay me! Mine is an evil laugh!
Eowyn: Behold my vagina!
Witch King: * dies *"
I wish this was the actually dialogue! Would have made the movie my favorite of all-time. - 4NDr01D, on 09/02/2008, -1/+3she got the baby batter in Episode II
- kirado4, on 09/02/2008, -2/+3Why is this comment being dugg down?.. oh wait, if you disagree with being treated in demeaning and sexist way by feminists, does it automatically mean your are a sexist?
- LocalDocal, on 09/02/2008, -1/+2@ Visionary
No, and there won't be so long as people keep getting dugg up for it. - OneLess, on 09/02/2008, -2/+3You'll note that this was "Hollywood's 5 Saddest Attempts at Feminism," so there was really no reading involved. She went totally off of the movie's portrayal of the character, which was the source of the loss of depth.
- sbader, on 09/02/2008, -0/+1Or maybe because his comment really had nothing to do with the article.
- KingCritter, on 09/02/2008, -0/+1It's usually not this bad. :(
- anotherjack, on 09/04/2008, -0/+1I would guess its being dugg down for dividing all women into 3 repulsive types. Women aren't begging to be treated by him as an equal, but he acts as if that's the point of the article.
- rinote, on 09/02/2008, -0/+1Dugg solely for "Behold my vagina!"
- malex, on 09/02/2008, -1/+2Dude, are we even reading the same article?
